Asteroid Photobomb! Space Rocks Invade Hubble Galaxy View
By Elizabeth Howell, Space.com Contributor | November 3, 2017 07:07am ET
“MORE 01:0001:00Interloping asteroids snuck into a stunning Hubble Space Telescope image of a distant galaxy cluster, painting S-trails across the foreground of a truly cosmic view.
The Hubble telescope was looking at Abell 370 – a complex of several hundred galaxies linked together by gravity and located 4 billion light-years away — when seven faint asteroids (five of which had never been seen before) moved across the field of view.”

“The weirdness of exoplanets continues to amaze.
It snows titanium dioxide, one of the active ingredients in sunscreen, on one giant, scorching-hot alien world, a new study suggests.
Astronomers used NASA's Hubble Space Telescope to study Kepler-13Ab, a planet that's six times more massive than Jupiter and that lies 1,730 light-years from Earth.
Kepler-13Ab is very close to its host star, completing one orbit every 1.8 Earth days. As a result, the planet is one of the hottest worlds known, with a dayside temperature of nearly 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit (2,760 degrees Celsius), researchers said. (Like many other tightly orbiting worlds, Kepler-13Ab is "tidally locked," always showing the same face to its star. So, it has a dayside and a nightside.)
The Hubble observations showed that temperatures higher up in Kepler-13Ab's atmosphere are cooler than those below — a surprising result, given that other "hot Jupiter" exoplanets tend to display the opposite pattern.
On most hot Jupiters, gaseous titanium dioxide in the dayside's upper atmosphere absorbs starlight and radiates this energy as heat, warming the air up. So, what's going on with Kepler-13Ab? The study team thinks that strong winds carry the planet's titanium dioxide around to the nightside, where the stuff cools and condenses into clouds. These clouds then drop the sunscreen "snow" into the lower atmosphere, where it stays, thanks to Kepler-13Ab's powerful gravity.”

Orionoid meteor shower 2017: How to watch radiant display in London and UK
The Orionoid meteor shower will peak this weekend, on the night of October 21, with stargazers in for a dazzling light display.
Orionoid meteors, which seem to originate from the constellation Orion, are “known for their speed and brilliance”.
From a dark spot, stargazers may see up to 20 meteors per hour.

Scientists have observed two stars slamming into each other deep in space, sending out huge amounts of gold in an alchemical explosion. The super-dense stars crashed together 130 million light years away, spewing out precious metals and other heavy elements like platinum and uranium – and experts say the event has kickstarted a "new chapter in astrophysics" and confirmed theories about the origin of the mysterious neutron stars.
