Lincoln gave a small nod and stepped towards the male on the ground. A spark left his fingertips and knocked the guy unconscious. “Abandoned warehouse?” He asked with a slight frown, glancing up at Daisy again for a moment. “You’re not taking him back to the base to question him?”

‘’It’s alright. I won’t tell anybody. it happens. i fell asleep when i first recruited. especially on boring days. it kind of makes you miss the action.’’ A small smile appeared on her pale pink lips. but her S.H.I.E.L.D. days were officially over, memories will still live on though. ‘’I’m Natasha, and you are. . ?’’

“Thanks. I don’t think Coulson would be too impressed that I’m sleeping on the job,” he replied with a slight chuckle, pushing himself up so he was sitting up properly on the sofa now. “I’m Lincoln. It’s nice to meet you.”

Which SIDE are you on? Bruce was tired of it. Tired of seeing his friends fighting with each other. It was mainly the reason as to why he was back. Though it had yet to be proven one of his best decisions in life so far. Taking what little belongings he had left, the scientist went straight to his lab ( thanks Tony ), after all there was no point actually renting out an apartment. Not in this city anyway. It wasn’t as if he was going to use it. Hearing the door go, Bruce didn’t bother to glance up, instead focused on the task at hand. “––I’ll be with you in just a minute.”

Lincoln had been sent to deliver some files of some description. Not exactly what he thought when Coulson said he had some field work for him but still, it beat hanging around the base all day. As he reached his destination, he knocked briefly on the door before opening it. “Oh uh- sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

Zeke let out a long sigh “You’re such a buzzkill. What’s the point in saving people if you don’t get to wear a costume? And Yellow Light would have been a hit, I can already imagine the movies. ”

“I... wouldn’t exactly say that I save a lot of people,” he responded. “Well you can use it if you want- honestly, most people don’t really call me anything but Lincoln, anyway.”

Harley managed a weak smile. “You’re a good friend Lincoln.. thank you.” Harley pecked him lightly on the cheek before leaning her head back on his shoulder, eyes drooping sleepily.

“You really don’t have to thank me. But you’re welcome,” he replied, smiling down at her a little as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Lincoln let out a small, empty chuckle. “Guess I wasn’t ready for them to be putting me on these big missions, huh?” He murmured before coughing a little and turning his head to the side to spit out some of the blood. “Get out of here. Don’t waste anymore time on me.” He didn’t want to risk anyone else getting hurt over this. Trying to save him would have been a pointless effort- and he was certain she knew that -so she needed to go before the remaining HYDRA agents caught up to them again. “Just... tell Daisy I’m sorry.”

Lincoln just gave a feeble shake of his head. “I... I can’t...” The pain was unbearable but he just couldn’t focus on anything else. There was no way he’d even make it back to his feet, never mind try to get away. He needed to face facts and so did she. Only one of them was going to be making it out of there alive. “Look... d-don’t worry about me. Save yourself, that’s all that matters,” he mumbled as he looked up at Suzanne, forcing the weakest of smiles onto his lips. “I’d only slow you down anyway...”

Harley sighed, looking up at him sadly. “I’m sorry you have to see me like this…”

Lincoln just shook his head a little. “Don’t apologise,” he said softly. “I really don’t mind. I’m your friend, that’s what I’m here for.”

"Don't die... Don't die on me. Please..."

“Harley... you have to go.” Lincoln’s voice was weak as he spoke. The pain in his abdomen where two bullets now settled was unbearable, blood pouring out of the holes in his flesh no matter how much pressure he attempted to put on them. There was no way he was getting out of there alive. But she could get away- but only if she left now. “Please, go! Don’t make the body count higher than it needs to be.” Waves of dizziness were already washing over him now, the very outer parts of his vision beginning to fade to black. This was his own fault, he should have been more careful, should have seen the men with the guns coming. It was his mistake and now he was paying the price, he just didn’t want Harley to be paying that price too. She didn’t deserve it.

Harley shrugged her shoulders lightly, wiping at her eyes. “Who knows…? Whatever it is, if it is fixable… I just hope they figure it out before they get anyone else.” Harley said quietly.

“I’m sure someone will figure it out,” he responded, offering her a weak smile as he looked down at her.

   ‘’YOU alright? I don’t think sleeping on the job is apart of S.H.I.E.L.D’s requirements. at least when I was here. times change quickly.’’ Natasha folded her arms over her chest; emerald eyes scanning the young man before her.

Lincoln was exhausted. He couldn’t stop worrying about Harley and he’d barely been sleeping so when he sat down for five minutes on one of the sofas, he just ended up laying down on it. He had only intended to stay there for a short while and he definitely hadn’t meant to actually doze off. So when he heard the other’s voice, his eyes snapped open and he pushed himself up slightly. “Uh- yeah. Yeah, ‘m fine...” he mumbled groggily.

"No. They're wrong. They're wrong, okay? You're not gonna die."

“Bobby...” He just let out a weak sigh, reaching for the other’s hand to take it gently. He didn’t really know what to say. They said they couldn’t save him- they weren’t even going to try now, it was too late, they said. He had a few hours left, maybe a day or two at a push. There was so much he wanted to say to the other but as he opened his mouth to speak, the words died at the back of his throat. Honestly, it wasn’t dying that he was scared of, it was leaving people behind. He didn’t want to hurt any of them, especially not Bobby. He wanted this to be painless for him, but he knew that wouldn’t happen. And the thought of hurting Bobby crushed him inside. “I’m sorry.” It was all he could bring himself to say as he squeezed the other’s hand a little tighter, looking up at him now as tears began to glaze over his eyes. “I’m so sorry.”

Harley curled in closer to Lincoln, her gaze meeting his for a brief second. “They took Scott and MJ from me Lincoln. They both tried to kill me, and I don’t know who else could possibly be under the influence of Hydra… I don’t trust anyone. I should just leave the city.”

Lincoln gave her shoulders a gentle squeeze. “Look... if that’s what you think you need to do to stay alive, then do it. Go find somewhere safer, where people won’t know you,” he murmured. “But I think this is something fixable... there has to be more to it than them just being Hydra agents who were told to befriend and then kill you...”

“You’ve never met my mother.” Harley sniffed, staring down at the floor sadly. “Why not? It sounds so much easier… I just can’t take getting hurt again. If someone else turns out to be one of the bad ones…” Harley trailed off, keeping her eyes on the floor.

“Look... you just have to be strong Harley. I can’t even begin to understand what you must be feeling right now so I won’t pretend that I do but... you just can’t let them beat you. You can make it through this.”

Harley bit her lip. “Maybe they just wanted to break me down first.” Harley said quietly. “Sounds like something my mother would do.” Harley sniffed, her other hand finding his, playing with his fingers as she spoke. “Why shouldn’t I? I’m tired Lincoln…”

Lincoln shook his head a little. “Do you think they’d really be wanting to waste so much time and resources on trying to break one person?” He asked, letting out a slight sigh as she took his hand. “Because then they’d win. And you can’t let them win.”
