There's a nutritionist I follow on youtube, but I hadn't watched his videos in months. I still get notifications though, so today I decided to take a look at his new content and... something felt off. The tone of his voice, the way he moved his hands, the way his mouth moved as he spoke... little things that fifteen seconds in made me say: "this is AI generated".

So I kept going back through his videos until I reached a point where I could tell it was really him talking. It was discomforting to see how blatantly fake the early AI videos were. Not only they were "glitchy", we're talking about uncanny valley territory here.

So there was an evolution from the "blatantly fake" to the "slightly off" videos, and it was interesting to see how good AI was getting at mimicking a real person (let's just say that for the moment being flesh and bones actors don't have too much to worry about).

But this made me want to unfollow his channel. You can't be bothered to film your content anymore, why should I be bothered to watch your simulacrum?

We read Persepolis, and watched the adaptation, in the 10th grade, and it's stayed with me ever since. I'm eternally in awe of Marjane Satrapi's bravery and resilience, and may she rest in peace.

Dear coworker, if your wife brings your less-than-a-year old baby at work and we're all cooing over him chewing his toy giraffe, what makes you think it's a good idea to say shit like "he's training his tongue for the future" and "in a couple of years he's going to get all the girls". Like, why are you picturing your three year old son making out with other toddlers? What's not working in your head?

And of course, when another coworker said you wouldn't say the same if you had a daughter, you agreed with her and started commenting on how the puberty age is lowering and how girls nowadays wear shorts that show half their asscheeks. Now, a lot can be said about girls' clothes and how sexualised they are compared to the boys' but! One second ago you were all proud at the idea of your son becoming a ladykiller but a daughter, of course, should better not mess around with the boys. You wouldn't want your daughter to be around the kind of boy you want you son to be.

We could get deeper on the sexual mores of our society, but I'll just say that y'all have to get like 90% more normal about your kids and children and teens in general.

Some thoughts I need to write down:

The more I get to know my colleagues, the less I like them (the ones who are not perpetually working from home, at least).

Why is "it's just a joke" always the asshole's excuse? As if humour wasn't use to ridicule, denigrate, put down other people? Why pretend that we never use jokes to tell what we really think? You think that the jokes that Trump make don't say anything about his character?

Male-centered women are tiring and are part of the problems they have with other women. You know that Chris Rock joke about women dancing at sexist rap songs saying "it's not about me"? Yeah, I know it's a way for coping with sexism, thinking that way, thinking that it's not you, it's not your male friends or your boyfriend or whatever, but you're not above the rest, not really.

I need to add, anyway, that my colleagues not totally bad people, they have good qualities and I try to focus on them. There are times, though, that a side of them comes out and I can't help but think "oh, you're an asshole". Or, at least "you have no empathy".

And my female colleague, the male-centered one, has many good qualities, she's smart and confident and supportive and capable of comfort in a way I'm not. Then there are moments where she puts down other women in a way she does not to men. And it's her fault I had to listen to what is essentially a rape joke in the form of a song. You reassure me the moments I feel insecure and then laugh at a song that starts as cheesy and ends with the dude violating his girlfriend in her sleep?

I know people are full of contradictions, but how do I cope with both your hugh and your bite?
