My favorite part of Adam and Lutes relationship is just how obviously comfortable they are with one another.
I think it's most obviously seen during Hell is Forever.
Throughout the whole song, they keep constantly looking at each other. They're having these silent conversations through glances; like how old married couples can communicate by just looks because they've been with each other for so long.
And it's a mutual thing, Adam turns to look at Lute as much as she does to him, this is clearly something they do often.
They also just naturally back each other up during songs and move in perfect sync to one another. Like that little fist bump? Mid song + while they were moving around, and neither of them hesitated at all. It's just a natural thing.
Another thing, they lean on one another constantly.
Again, midway through a song, Adam just casually rests his arm on Lute. He doesn't even check if she's there first. He knows she'll be right there. She's always beside him, and so there's no hesitation in his movements.
Lute shows no reaction either. There's no shock or 'wtf are you doing' feelings. It's just a thing they do.
Similarly, during You Didn't Know, she'll hang onto Adam's shoulder, and keep in mind in that scene specifically, Lute came up from behind him while doing that. And Adam's just like. Fine with it. This is normal. He isn't startled at all– doesn't even turn to look at her.
They're also just constantly with each other. Basically, every scene with them is Adam AND Lute. (Hell, even after Adam DIES, he's still there via Lute's hallucinations).
They basically never leave eachothers side.
They walk/hang out together, and based on how casual they seem, its clearly a regular occurrence.
This is OUTSIDE the workplace, btw. They have no obligation to hang out like this. That's a deliberate choice.
And when Adam starts talking about the exterminations, Lute immediately goes to shush him. She does not hesitate at all.
She physically stops him from going towards Charlie and Vaggie by holding him back, and she grabs him by the collar to pull him down.
That's isn't something you just do with anyone.
And definitely not with just your boss.
Adam is also relatively chill about her doing this. If it were anyone else, he'd definitely wouldn't just let that slide. But again, it's Lute. It's someone he is obviously comfortable with & around a lot, and that cannot have been the first times she's done that. So it's fine.
Again, with the whole following each other around thing; Lute goes with him to confront Vaggie.
She does not have to be there.
Hell, I'd argue she probably shouldn't be there. She obviously hates Vaggie, so why take her directly to someone she hates? That's a problem waiting to happen.
And this isn't a work related activity. It's not like Adam's obligated to have her there, or she's forced to go. Its a choice.
They choose to always be together.
Part of her job requirements as lieutenant isn't to follow Adam around, hype him up during songs, or take walks with him outside of hours; Adam isn't forced to bring her around everywhere either.
They're spending time together because they WANT to spend time together. They're choosing to hang out in situations where it is not required, and honestly? They're choosing to be around each other as much as possible.
Lute doesn't have to go everywhere with him or stand as close to him as she does, and Adam doesn't have to bring her everywhere or be nearly as friendly as he is.
Part of why I never understood people interpreting their relationship as purely boss & employee is because of all this. No one hangs around with their boss all the time or gets this level of comfortable with their employee.
And they're clearly super close, enough to do little gestures without thinking.
To me, it feels like they've known and been with each other forever. The way they'll lean on one another, glance over at each other, and move in perfect sync? That's reminiscent of someone you've known for a long time. It's a person you can always turn to, or lean on, or back up because they're always there.
They're always right beside each other so they can share these little moments together.
It's little things that are barely even noticeable, but it shows sooo much on their dynamic, and it's what got me hooked on them in the first place.
