everything about the accidental radiation photo. i think that's the moment i fell in love with the movie. it is such a good way of immediately showing the core of the main character without it feeling out of place. the way Simon immediately showed remorse but still very fairly pointed out that he's freaking out because no one is talking to him. anger and shame and repercussions. loved how this was framed to make the viewer think maybe he deserves his punishment, look how easily evil comes to him. loved that for a moment it looked like he was thinking it too
i really liked the visual of Ava constantly wiping down the blood from the porthole when Simon came back up. liked that the glass was never really clean and that we couldn't see much anyways. it felt very claustrophobic
the way the movie portrayed heat. it genuinely made me feel like my room was also getting increasingly hotter. first the fidgeting, the discomfort, the taking off the gloves. the slight condensation. very slow and unavoidable. the breaking point was when Simon stopped and contemplated drinking the rubbing alcohol, something he already needed for his wounds, but it was so hot and he was so thirsty he couldn't help it anymore

the hallucination ghosts. ooh i really liked those. delightfully scary and they came at right the perfect time every shingle time. scariest was when Simon was in the crawlspace underneath and he saw the shadows moving as if someone was walking above
the concept of a religious cult born around the last living tree. the idea of humans being the soil. the people from eden carrying those seed medallions. just the shot we got of the tree really. and the idea of starting to grow their own garden
Simon realising the person who sent him to die doesn't even know his name. it's the terrifying realisation that he's not human to these people; amazing acting and amazing way of showing how humanising a name can be. even the submarine had a name to them, but not Simon
Simon's mom. i like how she was mentioned so little, only twice if i remember correctly. the eel uses her memory to torment Simon and the implication she died during childbirth(is death the only thing she taught you). and then when Simon speaks directly to her as an unseen protector. really beautifully chosen moments to bring her up
the timing of the last oxygen warning. i was very preoccupied the entire movie about when those warnings will go off and i think they nailed the impact of the last one specifically, when Simon is talking to voice/hallucination/eel. perfect addition to an already desperate situation
i also like how visually limited everything is. it's just the submarine basically. you can skip around the entire movie and 99% of the time it's gonna be a submarine shot. and i think that's great. it really sells the idea of limitations and isolation. and even if it's so limited it's a very dynamic setup. there's so much happening all the time and it's perfectly self contained
when Simon fumbled with the login instructions. he still had so much humanity in him, even in those moments he was so painfully human
unironically i like how confused it made me feel. i didnt "get it" and i didnt understand all of it by the end. which is great i think. more movies like this

got curious about project hail mary and decided to read the book first bc everyone said it has a good plot. read it, fell in love, watched the movie. the book is significantly better in so many ways. i was actually a bit disappointed with the movie if im being honest. it's very pretty looking and i enjoyed it to a degree but it lacks everything i liked in the book
and obviously given the state of the phm tag, i watched iron lung too. liked it a LOT better than the phm movie. not really my usual type of film but it was so well made it really didn't matter 10/10
bloodymary is interesting as a concept bc there's a slight possibility the two universes COULD interact or overlap: similar themes and ideas (space/aliens/humanity/survival). the shipping is also understandable, classic opposite attract/sun and moon dynamic etc. im not above it, it's fun
bottom line is, i highly recommend the phm book over the movie. and iron lung is a cool watch by itself but a lot more horror than initially thought. the shipping aspect as always is up to individual enjoyment
