how do you pick the colors for your art/pick the background colors? ^^

Im so happy u asked!! I'd love to tell you. Although im no professional artist!!!! Im still improving heavily

for instance, using this as an example^ I tend to use more analogous colours.

They're colours next 2 each other on the wheel. So if i pick pink green as my base colour, tge other colours i use to shade will be variants of blue and yellow.

I put the grayscale to show you how to know which colours should be used to shade dark/light areas! If you use red, ur darker areas are more pinky or purpley and ur lighter colours will be more orangey and yellow.

When choosing my colours i use a base colour, then pick a little darker, saturated colour and shift the colour wheel wherever i want. Above, u can see how my shadows are darker and a bit saturated.

I dont shade with black. I also use overlay alot when im done w my art!! It kind of brings my colours together. I dont go rlly past 50% opacity for overlay.

I also use posterize sometimes! And i change my hue, saturation and brightness middle of arts too. I also like to save other artists work and note what colours they used to make it so pretty, brushes, etc!!

for my background i just kinda choose a colour i think would match the theme (the norfin art had alotof purples and blues so i went for a cool coloured background). I use a more darker coloured background when i want the characters to stand out!! I'd recommend putting a seperate layer for ur bg, try out a few colour options and choose whatever u think looks best😭or ask a friend cs thats what i usually do when i cant choose. Sometimes i use a white gradient, with a darker shade of polkadots.
