Stupid scenario I thought of where a RainWing goes out to basically people watch and accidentally befriends a scavenger when it doesn't run away after she approaches it. (He immediately gave up and put his arms out in surrender) They don't understand each other at all but they are big chillin and show each other things and communicate like you would with someone who doesn't speak your language

I love how a lot of the shows of how to train your dragon is "Look at how amazing toothless and hiccup are." Yes it's because they are the ones that learned best how to work together but I bet you snotlout is "memememeemem my name is hiccup and I get all the praise because I have toothless mimimimimi"

I got so passionate in my last post it turned out into a whole essay and it still isn't enough to express how much i hate when people misunderstand the first movie. I somehow managed to piss myself off so here goes another rant.

This time i want to talk about how Hiccup changing Berks view of dragons isn't nearly the only thing he changed and how his influence on this village and his friends especially is so much greater then people realize.

In the beginning of the first movie we see that Hiccup is alone and outcasted from the rest of his peers but while the other kids stuck together, calling them friends would be a stretch.

Astrid didn't like anybody there, she was respected but she didn't respect anyone else and therefore she kept to herself.

Snotlout was mean and self-centered, he only saw Astrid as the pretty girl in the village that he is obviously entitled to because he is the best (no i srs don't think he actually had a crush on her, his flirting seemed so performative, like he only did it because he thinks that's what he is supposed to do, he literally got scared in that one episode of rob when she started flirting back) and he didn't seem to care about anyone there much. In riders of berk we see that everybody kinda disliked him (the thawfest episode) because they think he is arrogant. I mean he couldn't even tell the twins apart at some point (I know this seems like i'm bashing him but i swear guys he is my favorite character just bear with me)

Fishlegs was laying low because he was the closest to being outcasted after Hiccup. In riders of berk we see Snotlout being so mean to him at times. Nobody there really liked him or respected him either.

The twins obviously loved each other, i mean, obviously, they are siblings even though their relationship was not the best (as we see in twinsanity) but other than that, they didn't particularly like Astrid or Fishlegs and while they did hang out with Snotlout i wouldn't call that a healthy friendship (again, he couldn't even tell them apart)

So now that we got that out of the way, let's compare it to how their friendship is in rtte.

They all work together in perfect harmony. They all get concerned immediately when one of them isn't acting as usual (they literally created a whole training exercise where they put Snotlout in charge just to bring his confidence up cause he was having a bad day). They lived together. They all risked their lives for each other so many times without thinking. They all know each other so well.

Astrid learned to respect hear team and trust them instead of doing everything alone.

Snotlout learned that not everything is a competition and that not everyone is against him and that he doesn't have to prove himself for people to care about him.

Fishlegs found his passion and earned the teams respect and they are treating him like an equal now.

The twins repaired their relationship and are now closer than ever and yet two different people with their own personalities who care about their friends a lot and can put their mischief into something useful.

This is the influence Hiccup brought to the team. He didn't just change their minds about dragons, he changed them completely.

He made that team into what it is, his presence brought them all closer with each other.

Without Hiccup Astrid would never learn to let her guard down. Without Hiccup Snotlout would never learn to stand up to his dad. Without Hiccup the twins would never learn that they don't have to hate each other to prove that they are different people. Without Hiccup Fishlegs would never gain his confidence.

It's so sad how these kids didn't even know what friendship truly was due to their upbringing. They only new competition and violence. "Be a real viking, no your feelings aren't important, in fact we are VIKINGS, we don't have feelings!" This is probably how an average dinner conversation sounded like at Berk before.

So i hate when people are like "The gang were all friends before Hiccup joined the group" They were NOT. There was ZERO affection in this group before Hiccup got there. These kids did not like each other, it was all so fake and competitive.

Hiccup made them all so much happier in so many ways. He truly changed Berks entire mindset FUNDAMENTALLY.

I hate when people make out Hiccup's bullying to be way worse than it was.

Like no they were not beating him up every day be so fr, they were mostly just ignoring him. And when they were making fun of him it was mostly when he messed something up.

Snotlout was NOT actively going out of his way to ruin his day, i seriously don't think he cared that much.

Book Snotlout, sure. He was THE WORST. But movie Snotlout was not doing all that.

As for the others Astrid and Fishlegs were pretty much just not getting involved and the twins probably didn't think of it much because they are idiots so Snotlout is the only one there i would really call a bully and you have only Spitelout to blame for his behavior.

I'm not trying to say that Hiccup being outcasted his whole childhood "wasn't that bad" but let's not villainize a bunch of kids who didn't want to be friends with a guy who all the adults in the village criticized all the time.

The entire point of the first movie is that when Stoick and all the other adults didn't listen to Hiccup and went for the nest anyway, the gang was ON HIS SIDE.

They listened to him and trusted him to lead them to fight the red death after they saw what he did in the Arena even though he was disowned at the time. That was the first time they thought for themselves and chose to fight by Hiccup's side even though their parents would probably disapprove of it.

If that had gone wrong and Stoick hadn't regreted what he said and decided to banish Hiccup anyway they would have been banished with him.

So no, they didn't "switch up" they thought for themselves and broke the cycle of violence which is like the whole point of the movie, the new generation changing the world.

Considering how he targets specifically her out of everyone (not saying he knows who Gangle is or anything, just as a writer’s touch)

This is a half-baked theory but if Jax hit someone then my money’s on Gangle

I’m subscribed to that channel. The owner has played multiple other YouTubers to see if the snake just hated Markiplier or was just hostile towards men. Turns out he was fine watching all the other YouTubers he just hated Markiplier specifically 😂

Tofu the snake! the owner has been running several various experiments based on people's thoughts/theories in the comments, like showing an edited image of Mark (it took Tofu a few minutes to recognize him, but once they did they immediately started trying to attack him) and even bringing in other snakes to see if they react too (none did). so far the consensus is that Tofu just really fucking hates Markiplier

Thinking about minecraft languages again I fear.

We know of at least two diagetic writing systems used in the world of minecraft— enchanting table language and some form of the Roman alphabet. We know that some form of the Roman alphabet is diagetic, because it exists in the world already before the Player arrives. Whoever built the desert temples assigned significance to the letters "TNT" enough to put it on their explosives. Pictographic writing also seems to exist, based on naturally-generating chiseled blocks, but that's harder to definitively state isn't purely decorative.

Villagers also presumably use some form of writing, given that they have librarians, but whatever that writing is, it doesn't seem to be legible to the Player, since we can't read books until we write in them ourselves.

The villager/illager species definitely creates symbolic art, given the use of banners by the illagers and of creeper face symbols on clerical robes. Piglins also use symbolic art, given the snouts carved into bastions, and it seems reasonable to conclude that they have some form of language.

This gives at least three languages in the world of minecraft— Piglin, Villager, and Desert Temple. Possibly a fourth, with Enchanting, but that could just be the writing system used by villagers, given that the Player doesn't seem to be able to read it.

What would those languages be like? What kinds of poetry are written in the Hnnngs and Hrrs of the villagers, or the grunts and snorts of the piglins? Could a piglin and a villager learn each other's languages, or are they too different not just in terms of vocabulary but in terms of the physical features required to communicate? Do piglins carry information in the flapping of their ears? Do villagers produce complex tones by resonance in their large noses?

And what about etymologies? For villagers, wool comes from sheep, but to a piglin, if wool exists at all, it's woven from strider hair. If the inhabitants of the desert temples had a word for gunpowder, was it related to their word for creeper? If piglins do, is it related to their word for ghast?

you know the obsession with keeping cats indoors is a purely American view of the world? Most Europeans let their cats outdoors without any problems. Many Europeans even think it's cruel to keep them indoors all the time

No, it’s not. European cats aren’t magically smarter and less environmentally impactful than American cats, it’s just more socially acceptable to let them roam. Do you not have cars in Europe? Foxes? Raptors? Stray dogs? Rat poison? Parasites? Diseases? What about the Croydon Cat Killer in England, where the dismemberment of over 400 cats was being investigated, and it turned out that foxes were mutilating the bodies of cats that were killed by cars? Suddenly it’s all ok because it was only horrific death via automobile, instead of decapitation like they suspected? Totally acceptable to outdoor cat owners, who cares if your cat gets hit by a car and dies on the side of the road? There is real concern for the hybridization of wildcats in Europe, Asia, and Africa, but sure, it’s just a US problem. How about how outdoor cats are effectively reducing the protective area of a national park in Poland? How about the increased incidence of lungworms and GI parasites in European free roaming cats? How about this small study from Denmark where 90% of free roaming cats tested positive for GI parasites on necropsy (and the risk was higher in rural areas). Not Europe, but for the sake of completeness, free roaming cats kill ~377 MILLION birds per year in Australia, and 61 million of those kills are thought to be from owned cats. You can also talk to @drferox about how problematic outdoor cats are in Australia. Free roaming cats are bad for the environment, and are put in unnecessary danger. Why don’t you provide enrichment for your cat instead of letting them run around unsupervised where they will kill native wildlife and get sick or injured or die (or all of the above). Humans would also be safer and the environment protected if we all just stayed indoors. No passing of parasites, bacteria, or viruses. No harm to other species. No cross breeding either (if that bothers you). Do you want to stay indoors?

I generally try to ignore responses like this, but I want to address this because I see this ridiculous argument a lot.

The reason that this comparison is inaccurate is because humans have the ability to use reason and make logical choices, but cats don’t. Humans see a car coming and wait until the street is clear to cross. Cats don’t. Humans know not to eat strange food on the ground. Cats don’t. Humans can look up which plants are toxic and avoid them. Cats can’t. Humans don’t eat raw rabbits and rodents that may carry disease. Cats do. Humans who hunt follow laws that prevent them from killing endangered species (besides shitty poachers). Cats don’t.

A far more accurate comparison would be a cat and a toddler. They lack the ability to recognize danger and don’t have the ability to reason that an adult does. I’m sure a toddler would have a great time roaming around the neighborhood, but no one is going to argue in favor of that. People can understand that doing that is irresponsible and dangerous. But no sane person is going to lock their toddler inside and provide them with nothing to do; no one is saying we should do that for cats either. Play with them. Provide cat trees. Rotate their toys. Give them puzzle feeders. And if you want them to go outside you can leash train them. Or build a catio. The options aren’t let them roam vs. never provide them with entertainment. If it is unbearable to entertain and care for a cat that is kept indoors, you probably shouldn’t own a cat.

Would you let your dog roam? Or your bird? How about your rabbit? I’m sure all of these animals would have a great time running (or flying) around the neighborhood, but we generally recognize that this is a bad idea. It’s no different for cats. We are caretakers for our animals, so it is up to us to use our big brains to make logical choices about what they should or shouldn’t do. We have the ability to understand the risks associated with free roaming. Cats don’t. We can weigh risks and benefits before making a decision. Cats can’t.

tldr: Humans have the ability to make logical decisions to keep themselves safe but cats do not.

Outdoor cats are also more or less an invasive species. They are such good hunters, they are capable of permanently changing an ecosystem by killing native prey animals. 

Protect your kitty and local biodiversity–keep them inside!

I just wanted to tack on that, there is no “more or less”, cats are an invasive species. Domesticated animals are invasive species and allowing them to interact with the local environment without monitoring will harm the local biodiversity. Cats especially. Domestic cats have a very high success rate for hunting. Historically, they have lead to multiple extinctions of animals because people brought cats along as pest control and pets.

You know what line in rtte i really love? When Hiccup is asking Stoick about that horn Heather got as a child and we find this out:

At first i thought it was just a funny scene because of course Hiccup would do something like that but then it hit me OF COURSE HICCUP WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!

This says SO MUCH about his character!

Taking something dangerous and deadly such as an axe and using it as a paperweight is pretty much a metaphor for everything else he did.

It shows how creative and ingenuitive he is, how he thinks outside the box, his ability to take something that everybody sees as dangerous and find a peaceful way to utilize it

That type of thinking is the reason he tamed the dragons, the reason he changed the village and why he became such a good inventor and a leader.
