No because how am I going to get OUT OF THIS DESERT WHEN THE STORY IS SO GOOD.
A chaotic god who learned it was never what he truly wanted, pranking a random mortal in a death game of his own creation, only to kill him in process. To end his life from his very hands. To make his chances of surviving the gods death game little to none.
For the god to atone for his crimes, he vows to the man that he owes him. That heâll be under the gods protection until the god himself falls like the man before him did.
For the man to immediately attach himself to the gods side. For him to giggle and laugh at his jokes and to do anything to make the god smile.
For the man to fall to his demise and when he awakes, his only fear is that of the god leaving him. For the god to consider their deal done and for him to go away and never smile at him again. The man rushing to the god, not to get mad, or to say the god didnât protect him like he claimed. But to apologize. To ask if they were still bonded by the life debt. And when the god nodded, all the man felt was relieve despite being on his last life before anyone else
For the god to encourage the man to feed into his chaotic desires. To hold the flame close to him and tell him that heâs beautiful.
When the god loses his first life and the life bond severed. He concedes to the man who makes him smile. To the man who would blow up everything for the god to laugh.
For the god to reverse a wrongful death to the man. To keep his promise like he said he would. To protect the man who he adores.
For the man to throw it away in the fleeting moments of the end. For him to let fate decide the gods fate and not his heart. To close his eyes to the flame, fearful of it going out but deciding it wasnt him who should decide. For the enemy to win fates favor and for the god to lose his life another time.
For the man to kill the enemy despite his warnings. For the man fearful of the gods wrath.
For the man to bow his head in that pond. To say that the god had fulfilled his promise. That he kept him alive and for that, he may slay him in his final moments. But the god holds that flame closer than anyone ever dared to. To not flinch at that burns grazing his skin. For he told the flame he wouldnât. That he couldnât in this manner.
For the couple to be surrounded by their belongings as they stripped themselves of all their power. To claim a duel victory. But the god knew it would need to end despite how long he prolonged it. That his game wouldnât he so kind to itâs maker. Not when they were watching.
For the god to take the very life he swore to protect. To snuff out the flame in front of him. For the flame barely grazed him in the end.
For the god to take a plunge of death shortly after. For he would not linger in a world without his mortal.
Then they were back. And his mortal found him again. To ask him to be friends. For he knew not of the tragedy the god and the mortal shared. For he knew not of his final moments being held by the god only for him to end his life anyway.
So the god turned his head and said no. For he would not do it again. He could not watch his flame be snuffed out once more. For the god would protect him, but would not be the hands that hurt him in the end. For he would close his eyes and turn away for when his mortals death day would come when his protection wasnât enough.
Then again. He was back. They both were but only one of them remembered when the light went out.
But the fates are cruel. They snicker and laugh at the face of the god when he realized. He would have to do it again. No matter what he would have to harm the one he loved most.
No matter how much he pulled away. The man wouldnât leave him. He couldnât after all. Not when he watched his lover hold another and not when his lover proclaimed he wished they were soulmates.
In the end, the god fears came true. His lovers life ended at his own hands. For his own hubris. The god cried out apologies he knew were lost to the wind.
Then again. He watched from afar, choosing allegiance with anyone but that man who he hurt so many times. Only this time, the mortal wasnt able to beg for an alliance. For his ties with others restrained him. But all ties fray eventually. The flame wanted to be near the kindling. It was only natural.
The god turned and pushed him away. Protecting the one he loved silently. For he knew how this story ends. For he knew the man didnât, because if he did he would resent the god he seems to keep turning to.
Then again. The man held out his hand to the god but the god turned away again. Closing his eyes to the flame that burned so brightly.
The god spent so much energy that time. Spending so much of his energy to bless the man he loved. For as he ran for numerous dangers, he was protected. For when the gods the god hated turned his lover into a villain, he was protected. For when the god unleashed a power to strong for any of his allies, his lover was protected.
For even when his life ended, he watched as his lover won. The god sighed as he realized the truth he thought heâd come to accept.
The man was safer without him.
But this time, the man remembered. He remembered how he was turned into a villain against his will and he remembered how he won without anyone on his side. He remembered how despite being alone, he never truly felt it in those sunflower fields.
Again. The god turned his head to the manâs pleads for an alliance. The god knew he wouldnât survive a day near the god.
But the god was once human. For even he couldnât stop himself from staring into the flame once more. He sighed and nodded at his lover.
âJust like in third lifeâŚâ he mumbled to himself. But of course, his flame spoke back the words he shouldâve known were coming, âWhat happened in third life?â
Even when the god was alone, he had his lover nearby. And that was enough.
But brighter flames burn out the quickest. For his lover fell once more. The god could only blame himself for he allowed his lover to get close again. He was foolish and knew better.
But at least now, he could blow the world to smithereens.
He was faced with his lover again. He seemed to know not to ask this time. But his friends didnât.
So they were close once again. Which of course. Lead to his lovers demise. Even with the gods protection, it wasnât enough.
He couldnât cry as his lovers blood rushed down his hands. For he became used to the sight. For ever night he watched his lovers life end to his own very hands. How every death was the gods fault. For his job was to protect his lover but all he seemed to be able to do was hurt him.
The only embrace he got watch from his dreams as he goes into the rift. The flowers surrounding him and his lover. In a world he couldnât snuff out that flame of his. For he loved the burn as he held it close. For he need not fear for the flame would never end him like he would end the flame.
