A wishing fountain, base lined with copper coins of past wishes . -dante
Stiles is seated on the ledge of the fountain, his whiskey-colored eyes slowly sweeping each of the submerged coins. His mind imagines what sort of wishes those before him made and how much hope they held that it would come true. After some time, he pulls a coin out of his pocket, flipping it between his fingers, his eyes fluttering closed for a moment before he opens them and drops the coin into the water.
Does he believe that his wish will come true? No, he doesn't, and that is saying a lot for someone who's seen many horrors throughout his life and runs around with a pack of supernatural friends. At some point, he stands up; he picks up his head, looking around now, settling his eyes on a stranger. ❝ Come to make a wish too? ❞
It is a cold night like many before, and though he has been blessed with a friendship that has kept a roof over his head, he still has to snatch a bite here and there, and even when he doesn’t, the thrill of stealing keeps him at it, it is a hard habit to break.
He waits long enough for almost everyone to leave, almost; his eyes study the remaining one as they make their wish before throwing something too precious to be thrown for a damn wish. Damn how easy it is to get people fooled to throw their money away, quite literally in this instance. ❝ Certainly not. ❞ He rolls one sleeve up above the elbow, eyes scanning the water for the spot with abundant coins. Hah! There! ❝ I like to personally grant my wishes. ❞ He sits at the edge, arm stretched and dipped into the cold water, his hand scooping as many as it can with one go. ❝ Right now, I wish to eat a hot sandwich and drink some beer. ❞ Hopefully, they won’t stop or report him. Worst of all, they turn to be some kind of law enforcement- well, not always a problem; he usually trades with his knees on the ground and his face buried in their laps. It’s almost always a successful trade.
it is rather sad that emrys/menandros would find it a little appealing to imagine his tombstone, written on it beautifully: loving father and husband. it does bring a smile to his features.

He has always known it, made peace with it: he never left the LABORATORY of his creators, it has just gotten bigger, the world is a better station; endless, vast, unpredictable, real. His escape has only became an advantage they took to sharpen their weapon, or dispose of it should they see it fit.
When they corner him (or so they believe), his mind manages a millions of escape routes, big casualties, small ones, almost none, many ways to dismember some, disarm some, eliminate with one shot, but he doesn’t move a muscle, surrendering instead. Is it a grand scheme? Is it the knowledge and certainty of the fact that eventually, he will meet his makers? Does it matter anymore? Maybe, but it’s too much of a faint voice in his mind to listen to.
They try to get rid of most of his senses: eyes blindfolded, lower face covered with a filtered mask, ears plugged. They can’t get rid of his awareness of surroundings, his proprioception, and that is why he senses it when it happens: the vehicle is abruptly stopped; most likely an obstacle too skilled to pass with road maneuvers, he can’t hear the bullets yet he can predict they are flying in the air, or about to at the least; the weight of the soldier beside him dipping deeper into the seat before standing, footsteps almost featherlike. Part of him wonders: is it a test? To figure how off the plan he has gotten, to put his new skills into the test, measure how much of resistance is still left in him? He stays quiet, in place. Whatever this is, he shall either find a way to fight it, or accept his fate—- when did he start using that word? Fate..
The air against what’s exposed of the skin of his face grows thinner, he can feel something approaching—- It is in instinct when his leg kicks the source in their center in an attempt to make them lose balance. Something about this source is different than the rest. Danger? Preserve, it’s his priority, disregarding any past possibilities and plans. The force in which he hits the headphones with costs him a facial scratch, there are plugs still, yet he can hear a little, he is not entirely blocked from the noise around anymore. He rolls swiftly till he makes enough distance between him and the source of danger, the main one now, prepared for any sudden action. Damn the automated heavy handcuffing machine around his wrists, pulling his arms behind his back. Breaking it is a stupid bargain; they usually program it to blowup upon any outside attempt.
