PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
WHITNEY HOUSTON delivered a powerful rendition of THE NATIONAL ANTHEM during a time of heightened national tension due to the PERSIAN GULF WAR.
The performance was accompanied by THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA, conducted by JAHJA LING.
WHITNEY HOUSTON’s version is widely regarded as one of the best renditions of THE ANTHEM in history, evoking strong patriotic feelings among viewers.
RELEASE & IMPACT
Following the performance, WHITNEY HOUSTON’s rendition was released as a charity single to support soldiers and their families involved in THE GULF WAR.
The single was re-released after the SEPTEMBER 11 attacks in 2001, with all profits donated to victims and firefighters.
WHITNEY HOUSTON became the first artist to achieve a Top 10 hit with THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
