THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER is THE NATIONAL ANTHEM of THE UNITED STATES, written by FRANCIS SCOTT KEY in 1814 after he witnessed the bombardment of FORT MCHENRY during the War of 1812.
The lyrics celebrate the resilience of THE AMERICAN FLAG, which inspired FRANCIS SCOTT KEY to compose the song, officially adopted as THE NATIONAL ANTHEM in 1931.

The performance was accompanied by THE FLORIDA ORCHESTRA, conducted by JAHJA LING.
WHITNEY HOUSTON’s version is widely regarded as one of the best renditions of THE ANTHEM in history, evoking strong patriotic feelings among viewers.
Following the performance, WHITNEY HOUSTON’s rendition was released as a charity single to support soldiers and their families involved in THE GULF WAR.
The single was re-released after the SEPTEMBER 11 attacks in 2001, with all profits donated to victims and firefighters.
WHITNEY HOUSTON became the first artist to achieve a Top 10 hit with THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
