I created this piece during my Molecular Illustration course. We performed a bacterial transformation which produced E.coli bacteria that glowed in the dark. This process is explained in my piece and it also explains how the bacterial transformation process can be used to create human insulin. This piece is a 2 page spread designed to fit in a magazine like National Geographic.
For this piece I wanted to create an informational graphic on the bones of a cat's skull. I referenced a cat skeleton for the illustration and finished the piece using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. ( And for fun, included a photo I took of my family's cat )
A panel from my BFA exhibit that explains the structure of a birds wing.
An editorial illustration I did based on this article: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/08/140827-seabird-puffin-tern-iceland-ocean-climate-change-science-winged-warning/
Cleaned up my sketch in photoshop and I used it for an informational graphic. (Which you can view on my site www.stanleyillustration.com in the "Latest Work" area ) #anatomy #cat #skull #science #art #biology #animals #anatomy

A digital illustration of the Hooded Pitohui, one of the only known poisonous birds. This illustration shows the bird in its environment along with information on the toxin and possible source of the toxin.
Does it bite? Or does it just poison you if you eat it? Poison feathers? Poison poops? I am trying to think of a way in which a bird could be poisonous.
Birds have glands that release oils, used in preening their feathers. With this bird it is believed that the poison comes from these oils, making its feathers and skin poisonous. This ability would be useful for not getting eaten by predators.
