I was thinking of Obsession and the whole “one wish willow” and how Bear using it to not even give himself or Nikki a real chance at talking about their feelings, is just like how it’s very normalized on TikTok and online in manifestation “culture” and Etsy witches to make love potions and love spells on people. And it’s mostly women making them for men because a majority of men I feel don’t understand what that shit is (like bear didn’t).
I feel like there’s definitely a whole lot more to discuss about this movie other than people getting mad that people laughed in the theatre (you definitely haven’t watched enough horror movies, and this wasn’t the movie for you) or that Nikki never really liked Bear (which I don’t think is entirely true) when I think the whole one wish willow and any other form of love spells/potions and how it’s WRONG to do these things about another person should be talked about more.
because shit like that is real, and people shouldn’t be doing that to someone because it could have a negative effect on yourself and the person you did the spell to. I’ve genuinely never seen anyone talk about that specific subject and how it is normalized and encouraged (especially to women/girls) to do that to someone. And I think it should be, even if we’re talking about the allegory or drugging someone, it’s not right. But the fact that spells (bc he went to one of those types of stores) is what the movie is about then I think that is something that should be up for discussion.
