Yashiro is having some complicated feelings this chapter.

As I just mentioned, I don't have much time unfortunately so I can't write much about my thoughts on this chapter, but for me the most interesting part was Yashiro's conversation with Amou. I also love how Kamiya just wants to help but also can't bring himself to stop being an asshole about it lol
Sensei's name isn't in the list of contributors for the next issue so I think it's safe to say this chapter closes volume 10 which means we'll now be on hiatus for a while. I think chapters will likely start up again around spring of next year? Hopefully? But in the meantime we can look forward to the official release of volume 10 as well as the drama cd ^^.
Yoneda is absolutely unstoppable. We already have the new previews for the latest Saezuru chapter, which is drawing closer and closer to the climax of this final arc. This time, there are two specific details that caught my attention that I just couldn't leave unaddressed.
The Parallelism of the Snow
First of all, the cover image shows Doumeki and Yashiro under a snowfall—a clear parallel to the very beginning of Doumeki’s story within the Sakuraika group. It is snowing in the exact same way it did the day Amou handed him over to Tsunakawa. It seems this crucial part of the story, which began on a snowy day, is coming full circle and closing under the exact same weather.
Two Sides of the Same Coin
This brings me to the second preview image: Amou requests a meeting with Tsuna to apologize. While the surface-level reasons are clear, there is a much deeper history between these two characters.
Amou and Tsunakawa were university classmates, meaning they have known each other for many years. In the Saezuru universe, they represent two sides of the same coin:
Tsunakawa, on one hand, is a successor by inheritance.
Amou, on the other, is Misumi’s illegitimate son, who became a boss through pure meritocracy and power.
Consequently, even though they have only met a handful of times throughout the story, they show an incredibly close bond through the sheer weight of the favors they dare to ask of and grant each other.

Loyalty and Favors Within the Yakuza
Back in chapter 30, Amou asks Tsunakawa to talk to the other bosses so they won't accept Hirata into any Sakuraika subgroups, and Tsunakawa agrees. Their conversation is deeply fascinating because Tsunakawa questions whether it wouldn't be easier to just put out a formal notice that Hirata is exiled, ensuring no one takes him in. That’s when Tsunakawa talks about loyalty and drops a heavy line: "A man without a group is dead." Pushing someone to those extremes is no small decision.
Against all odds, many years later, Amou turns to Tsuna for help once again—this time to take in Doumeki. Going completely against his own convictions of not accepting the "leftovers" of other clans, Tsunakawa complies. This is exactly why Amou goes to apologize to him: he knows perfectly well that Tsunakawa made a massive exception solely out of that surreal friendship they share.
The Illusion of Freedom
Furthermore, I love how Yoneda always positions them in spaces that are simultaneously vast yet enclosed: golf courses and fishing ponds. These are artificial, man-made environments that, despite seeming immense, are completely fenced in. It captures the very essence of Saezuru: even if you feel free, the yakuza remains your prison. Perhaps that’s why they look for these specific settings for their private meetings; it grants them a subtle illusion of freedom that, due to the realities of the mafia world, can never truly be real.

I've waited over 10 long years for this moment. I still can't believe it; Doumeki has finally fulfilled his dream, and I hope Yashiro finds some peace before the storm breaks. Are you ready? I hope you enjoy it too until the chapter is released in better quality.

BRING FORTH THE PAIN!!!
As was noted in other sneaks, we pick up with Yashiro being very upset with Doumeki. Holding his head, kicking over the bowl of water he used to nurse Doumeki back to health. He doesn't look up from this position, he just says, "You've got to be kidding me." (alternative translations were "You're really stupid." (Talking about Doumeki... or himself?? HAHA!)
We are back in bookmark mode! Lots of long shots. Doumeki arrives confidently at Tsunakawa's. Just as an aside, I love Tsunakawa's house. The garden, the traditional Japanese style. Love it!
Tsunakawa asks Doumeki if he's going to get on his knees and beg like he did 4 years ago. Doumeki says, "I won't."
So Tsunakawa's guys help him.
Tsunakawa is pissed because Doumeki should be hanging his head in shame.
Tsunakawa says maybe you're glad this happened.

Tsunakawa says "I'm surprised you came back here." Doumeki says he's grateful to them for taking him in back then. Tsunakawa says, "You only came here because Yashiro didn't want you."
Tsunakawa says Yakuza are people who can't live a decent life. But he looked into Doumeki's life. Doumeki was a cop, who has a cute little sister and a mother, and went to jail for assault after protecting his little sister. Even so, a person with a family could still live a normal life.
Tsunakawa: "What does the Yakuza mean to you?"
Doumeki: "It's... a place to live."
Tsunakawa: "What does Yashiro mean to you?"
Doumeki: "He's the reason I live."
Tsunakawa: "Can't you at least hesitate a little?"
Tsunakawa looks so heartbroken here. Doumeki really did the only thing he could to break his heart.
Doumeki says, that Yashiro is precious to him. That pisses off Tsunakawa more. Is he mad that he wasn't the one. (Seriously... but in a Yakuza way.)
Doumeki receives his orders. "Kill Kai. Because you're a felon, there's no telling how long you'll be eating prison food, so get your affairs in order." Really brokenhearted.
Then he's told by Miraji that when he is released from prison, he'll be excommunicated. This is the only time Doumeki seems at a loss for words.
Because how does he stay by Yashiro if he can't be in the Yakuza?
Kamiya is told to make sure Doumeki kills Kai.
Kamiya takes Doumeki to a hotel room. Doumeki puts ice on his face and Kamiya tells him he'll use this gun and it's loaded.
He thanks Kamiya for all his help. Kamiya tells him that he can thank him but can't apologize to Tsunakawa?
Doumeki said he won't apologize, and he thinks that Tsunakawa wouldn't be satisfied with just an apology anyway.
Kamiya is mad because Doumeki betrayed the family, fell in love with a man, and put him in the middle of his crap. Doumeki says he doesn't see the gender of the person you love being an issue. You tell him, Doumeki!!!
At this moment, Kamiya opens up to Doumeki about his own little sister, whom he couldn't protect because he was just a kid too. Doumeki says that it's unusual for Kamiya to open up like that.
Kamiya says that when he was young (before he even had pubic hair), he stabbed his abusive parents in the stomach. (Under-aged violence is handled differently in Japan, as is murder.) He says he was just a dumb kid, because if he was going to stab someone anyway, he should have done it before his sister died. (I'm only guessing here, so reserve judgment until we have a translation, but OMG, did they abuse her until she died? Or is he saying he would have killed her before they did to save her from the abuse? Or perhaps that if he'd stabbed the parents while she was alive, she would have gotten better too.) It also looks like they lived in squalor.
Kamiya laughs and says, 'Yeah, it's not at all like me to share."
This chapter had so many levels of sadness, defeat, rejection, confession. Brazen boldness from our big baby bird. I really hope to see Yashiro meet with Tsunakawa again, this time for property rights!!!
Kamiya has reached Kuga status. I am so glad we got to know this about him. Now I hope that doesn't mean he's going to die now. Because he opened up.
Are Hirata, Aoi, Yashiro, and Doumeki the only people in the world who didn't deal with their trauma? It's worth noting that Yashiro managed to get yet another Yakuza fired from his job because he was in love with him. It's a record when you do it to the one you actually like.
It's Yashiro's game now. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I have entertained the end of this story with Yashiro and Doumeki ending up in jail together. They'll go to the same jail as Ryuuzaki on the day Ryuuzaki is released. LOL!
That's it! Chapter 66 will be out on May 29. It's gonna be a cruel Summer!
I feel more like Yashiro today. I want to kick over tubs of water. I wonder if his socks got wet? I bet they did and that's why he's really upset. I bet he gives Tsunakawa a sock bill.
How do they get out of this? Are bullet wounds and near-death drama worth it to avoid jail? Yashiro can't get Misumi's help unless he uses himself as currency.
Can Kamiya go stabby-stabby on Kai instead? Get out that pent-up regret!

Here are some serious eyes to set the mood.
I'd like to give some thoughts on this chapter (especially because it moves the plot along a lot!) but I'm actually literally in the hospital as I type this preparing to give birth so it'll have to wait until after, lol
Yoneda Kou's name appears on the list of authors for the next chapter due out on May 29th, so it looks like this is not the end of the volume after all!

A couple of thoughts below the cut.
I haven't had too much time to look at the fandom's reaction to this chapter yet, but I personally found it really sad.
I'm happy that Doumeki tried to open up to Yashiro, but the reality of him forcing himself on Y is still glaringly apparent and I'm really curious to see how Sensei resolves that conflict.
I was very interested to see D use the term "greedy" (欲が出た which can also be translated as "desirous") because it reminded me again of his name's connection with the yokai Dodomeki. (I talked about his name and it's connection to this yokai among other things in this post a long time ago.) That was another little hint to me that maybe D's story has some parallels with the Dodomeki's themes around greed and taking things that don't belong to you, not money as in the yokai's tale, but "taking" Yashiro.
It also seems like Sensei is setting D up to do something really, really stupid. lol I don't have any great ideas about what that could be, but the foreshadowing is there.
And the damn box! The box and the contact case therein that haunts the narrative! How, I wonder, will that box play a role as we approach the final arc?
Speaking of final arcs - I thought this might have been the last chapter for volume 10, but it looks like Sensei is scheduled to appear in the next issue out on March 31st, so that's exciting ^^ I think probably ch 65 will be the end of volume 10 and if past is prologue Sensei will then take a break before volume 11 starts. That's all just speculation though, who knows!
One last thing- I will be giving birth on April 7th so please be patient with me (as most of you have been, thank you! <3) when ch 65 comes out. I'm having a c section so recovery will likely take a long time, not to mention, assuming no one dies like last time, I'll have a little human attached to me at all times (allow me my dark humor, it's how I survive), so while I'll try my best to get the chapter out before the surgery I won't make any promises.
