hi! lego monkey kid is problematic because it picks and chooses what to take from the original novel, kills off most of the pilgrims to replace with new characters, and greatly mischaracterized the sun wukong to the point of the fandom shipping him with a character that only appeared in two chapters before being killed off, and promotes illiteracy bc most of the fandom only knows the characters from lmk and havent read the novel, its also disrespectful to religion because it cuts out all the buddhism, so you really shouldnt promote it or make silly aus. thank you!! ^-^ i don't think people should be allowed to engage with it without reading the original story, and overall the character of sun wukong is not for you. thank you!! <3

First off, if ANYONE agrees with this sentiment, block me, and block anything LMK related if you hate it that much. That is proper fandom etiquette. Not trying to dictate what people can and cannot post and what they can and cannot enjoy. This reads as baby’s first fandom and if it is, I highly suggest you learn fandom etiquette before trying to dictate what people enjoy or before joining a fandom. Especially because you clearly knew this take was bullshit since you did it anonymously, meaning I can’t block you myself.
SECONDLY. The story of the Monkey King is public domain. That means ANYONE can make ANY story with all the characters from Journey to the West. Ergo, you cannot bastardize JttW when you are doing your own version of it bc of it being public domain. It also means Wukong is for everyone because he is public domain. The characters in LMK are not the characters from JttW. They are from LMK with their own story of JttW. They should not be compared.
LMK is its own telling of JttW. Something we are still learning about in the show. The show is set in the future, long since Wukong’s journey ended. Ofc we’re going to have new characters. Not to mention, LMK is about MK, Wukong’s SUCCESSOR, and NOT Wukong. This is not another retelling of Wukong’s life bc the story is about MK. Any tidbit we learn about Wukong is to help drive MK’s story forward. MK is our main protagonist in LMK; not Wukong or his companions.
Also, I’m pretty sure that is incredibly ignorant of you to claim that no one in this fandom knows / has read JttW when the majority of this fandom is from the country it originated in?? There’s a very telling reason that if you live anywhere outside of China, you can only get the LEGO sets for the show online instead of in stores. LMK is also a show made for children focusing on a character who is not a Buddha. Why would it talk about something that does not directly involve the main character when it has its own story it wants to tell? If MK were to become a Buddha, then I’m sure Buddhism would be a big theme in it. But he’s not, so it is not that big of a talking point. That doesn’t make it sacrilegious.
Shipping is shipping. All fandoms have that. And no one in LMK is shipping Macaque and Wukong from JttW. LMK Macaque and Wukong are shipped together. They are entirely different characters from different stories being told. So that’s a moot point that I’m not going to argue about.
You also bring up how people should read the story first before even interacting with LEGO MONKIE KID (a show about legos and not the books), but, which story do you mean? There are so many translations for JttW, each with something a little different in it, which version of JttW could you possibly mean? Everyone is going to have a little bit of a different take on JttW because there are multiple books and each book is different. Some are a four part series, others are all four books condensed into one book. So there is no ‘correct’ JttW.
LMK is not problematic. Your attitude and behavior is the only problematic thing here. So, I suggest, kindly, that you actually take the time to learn what something truly problematic is before coming into MY asks and claiming nonissues in a kid’s show are problematic and that people shouldn’t be allowed to engage or show their love for a show made for everyone. You talk about illiteracy, but you saying that this show is problematic for things only YOU have issues is not the definition of problematic. Please go learn some fandom etiquette, thank you!! <3
