howdy. i'm asriel dreemurr and i'm the political and representative leader for monsters on the surface. things are a bit rough around the edges with me and the other monsters but it's getting better. what's up?

* && these days we tend to lie

* not only has asriel exiled himself– forbidden himself from seeing his friends, his family– but he hasn’t even got a place to stay? how could sans just walk away? even after all the emotional distress he’s caused, asriel’s only a kid (pun only slightly intended). sans has enough trouble sleeping as it is; he doesn’t need to add a guilty conscious to his issues.

* no, it– it’s not fine, asriel.

* jeez, kid, i know other monsters are still miffed at you, but you don’t gotta… do this to yourself.

* i’m almost just as guilty as you. i could’a done somethin’, y’know? i was just too damn lazy, or i didn’t care enough, or both.

* a rather nervous laugh escapes him, and his gaze drops to the ground.

* i’m already up, and the chances of me fallin’ asleep before the sun comes up are pretty slim. y’sure you don’t need some company? everyone else is out; they won’t even know i’m gone.

Seeing that Sans was beginning to pin the blame on himself, Asriel let out a sigh of both defiance && reluctance. Maybe if he can’t win with having the skeleton tag along, then maybe he can win on another matter. ( It’s all just been a game to him. He couldn’t win at the one that mattered, so now he’s just filling a hole with pieces that don’t match. ) 

Gaze kept ahead of him, for fear of making things awkward while his thoughts began to collect and form on the tip of his tongue, he only turns a bit to look down at the stout skeleton as a smile creeps back onto his features, patient & wise far beyond his years suggest. ( He looks like his father like that. )

    “ I wouldn’t mind company, but I     don’t think you should stay out too     long. I don’t want Mom worrying     over you too much. You know how     she can be. ”

A small laugh punctuated the comment about the motherly nature of his mother towards those she cares quite a bit about, but it falls flat as he remembers that nature when it was directed towards HIM. Silence falls for a brief moment again, before the ex-prince clears his throat. 

    “ Do what you’d like to Sans. I’m     not going to force you to go with     me. I’m just going to take care of     something before finding a place     to stay in a neutral zone. ”

       ｢❤」”… well, um, it’s easy! You just need to tell them that there’s a lot of different types of monsters, and that just because you look like a goat doesn’t mean you belong in a petting zoo!”

      Frisk had to admit that Asriel’s ears looked really soft, though.

    “ I still have no clue what a petting zoo is... ”

The sentence was a mere mumble, but it was probably loud enough for the young child to hear, considering they were sitting right next to Asriel. Plus, he hardly minded the fascination with him -- that’s good, right? He’s not sure, but just being around anyone that’s not Frisk makes him uneasy.

Chara lets themself think for a moment, tapping their chin. What’s a suitable game, to distract yourself from whatever wrong is in the world?

…. Even if you don’t know what it is?

And to play with two people? Well, usually, that was harder, but for Chara, they somehow always found a way.

“I know!” They cried, removing the finger from their face. And then, quickly speaking up again. “Repeat after me. ‘She sells sea shells by the seashore’!” Tongue twisters! They’d be a good distraction, and Chara had found themself good at them, too.

“And then try and say it five times fast!”

    “She sells sea shells by the seashore!”

Asriel can’t help but let out a loud laugh as he says it, because he can barely manage to do it at a normal pace, let alone five times fast. Chara’s probably going to get a kick out of him having so much trouble saying the tongue twister. He takes a slow breath and tries it again, attempting to do the challenge given.

    “She sells she shores...      Sea shells she sells...     Oh no...”

He snorts softly and covers his snout with one paw, while delving into laughter. He’s having quite the trouble doing this tongue twister; maybe that’s because he’s never been exposed to it before. If he has, he’s probably forgotten it. ( That happens from time to time when you go through so many resets, and the thin lines between reality and nightmare begin to BLUR. )

* feeling a bit bonely

* yeah. win some, lose some.

* don’t worry, buddy, it just… takes some time. hell, i still get some dirty looks. we all do. some humans just have a harder time adjusting, i guess.

* he’s ashamed to admit it, but when asriel turns away, he’s almost… relieved. if only because the air between them was becoming a little too thick for his non-existent lungs to handle. but relief quickly melts into pity, and sans steps outside entirely, softly closing the door behind him.

* hey, uh

* it’s late. you shouldn’t be walking around here by yourself. somethin’ could happen, y’know? lemme at least. y’know. walk you home.

Sans’s reaction to him implying that he’d be heading home by himself -- a thing that he does every other night, after seeing Toriel - his mother - go to bed after reading a story to Frisk and Papyrus, a story he can remember so vividly, too -- makes him visibly confused as he turns halfway to look at the smaller skeleton of the usually inseparable duo. How is he supposed to break this to Sans? Asriel can see that it’s pity Sans hold for him, but he doesn’t want to admit to that fact. He’s had enough pity in this lifetime to last generations. 

    “Sans... as nice as that is for     you do to, it’s fine. Really.”

He’s aware of what would happen if a particularly nasty human with a grudge against him for some reason caught him. He’s aware of the negative consequences of being out so late and some group of humans catches him. He’s aware. He’s oh-so-painfully aware of it all. That’s his curse for being who he used to be, he supposes. The silence he gives only implies he has something else to say. Sure enough --

    “Plus, that’d take a while,     considering I’m more of a     drifter lately...”

He can’t help but feel a surge of arrogance at the fact this Demon didn’t know who he was – The older couldn’t help but put a hand on his hip, the other reaching out to give a childish peace sign to accompany the grin on his face.

    “...? Okay? Whatever helps you sleep at night, man.”

He’s not really how to respond to the proclamation of the other male, other than with obvious disbelief. He’s heard of, and seen a lot of fucked up and strange things in his lifetime, especially when he was a murderous, time and reality altering flower. Hell, he was a PART of that entire category back then. Regardless, he slowly nods, as if the disbelief would dissipate from the action.

    “Pleasure to meet you, sir.”

Frisk smiled at his comment. Their back and forth was always fun, albeit a little asshole-ish toward each other. They knew no harm was meant.

     “How about you do something fun? I hear there’s a       carnival going on down town. Some group of humans       are putting it on. Maybe you’d like to go with me, hm?”

A carnival? What is -- oh, he’s heard of it. When he was at his meeting yesterday, he was approached with the information of it, and he said that he probably wouldn’t have a day off and politely declined. And yet, here he is, with a day off and nothing to do. Well, he supposes it can’t hurt to go out to it.

    “Hmm. Yeah sure, why not? It’s not     like I have anything better to do.”

He stands up and adjusts his shirt properly ( just because he’s no longer a prince doesn’t mean he won’t dress like a gentleman ), before smiling ( although it seemed more like a smirk than anything else ). 

    “Are you ready to go? I think it’s like,     uh... fall outside or somethin’. Should     get a jacket, so you don’t get a cold. I     have fur, so.”

Now it’s definitely a smirk. Smart-ass.
