#it was a long time coming #i had my previous one since i was in my earlier fandom #it was about time for a change #also guys i havent been posting much because i barely have any new kpdh content to work with #and posts i want to make ive been procrastinating #working on a list talking about hyo-seop shows i binged watched though #but its coming along very slowly #im so lazy these days

Kpop demon hunters bungles its threads/ideas/teasing of demon redemption so badly it 1) accidentally ends up saying that all demons are inherently evil and irredeemable unless they fall in love with a Hunter and 2) accidentally reinforces Rumi’s “eternal suffering….sounds fun” line when Mira confronts her, because that’s exactly what the ending does, kills demons with no qualms, shows no nuance with them except for one guy, sentences them all to be with Gwi-Ma for eternal suffering, and treats that as empowering.

And then the end credits song is Takedown, the song that Rumi had problems with the entire movie and was integral to one of the top three worst moments of her life. Okay, then.

Yeah ngl, this hurts the movie a lot for me too.

The film goes out of its way to convey to us that demons are slaves to Gwi-Ma and are in need of saving only for it to completely dismiss this idea at the end of the movie. Its like its saying that even though demons are unwillingly tethered to the corrupt demon king who treats them like crap, they deserve that suffering. It goes against everything the movie was setting up in the beginning.

I personally don't think that plotline was handled very well at all. They either needed to lean towards saving the demons completely or not bringing up this plot thread at all. The two cannot co-exist at the same time.

#sorry if this wasnt worded the best #not feeling the best today #but yeah this has been something that has bothered me since i first watched it #when i first watched it i genuinely thought the movie would end with huntrix and the saja boys uniting to take down gwi-ma or something #but nope #barely anything changes from start to end except rumi is more excepting of who she is #kpdh is great but it is far from perfect

I was always emo about how Rumi just strode towards Jinu in What It Sounds Like, not caring the fact that she was seeing him as he truly was for the first time - a demon. Rumi didn't care, Rumi loved Jinu, no matter what form he took. Jinu was Jinu after all.

Another detail I always loved was while the other Saja Boys seemed rather angry with the girl's intervention, Jinu just looked rather confused, staring at Rumi as if he was wondering why she still cared for him.

He didn't understand that she knew him and that she knew he wouldn't have exposed her without having a good reason to.

I've said it before but Free was a culmination of their characters and them coming to fully understand each other like no one else could.

Rumi fully understands Jinu.

Jinu fully understands Rumi.

They are soulmates.

Also lets not forget the little Free instrumental that plays during this section:

The fact it all comes together so beautifully in What It Sounds Like honestly gives me goosebumps. Here's to hoping that Rujinu truly can be free together someday 🙏

This person had only just watched KPDH for the first time so their opinions were not swayed by any fandom ideas. They simply spoke about the intricacies of Jinu's character with what information the film provided.
