hi ive been busy with school again but here’s some stuff ive done of hattori hanzo from samurai warriors 5 in the past few weeks 🦊

hnrgh angst w/ a happy ending my roommate is a detective fic where the boys get together but they’re utterly on different pages about it because lu yao is a romantic, looking for his one and only, and qiao chusheng thinks this is just an extension of what they’re already doing and slots him into his rotation of dates.

cue angst when lu yao feels like he can’t say anything, qiao chusheng thinking that he can’t expect anything more, and lu yao quietly but determinedly making plans to leave shanghai when it gets too much. (there’s nothing to worry about when lu yao is complaining but when he goes quiet and draws into himself, something’s very wrong.)

(bai youning watching both of them be complete and utter fools and throwing her hands up in exasperation at how dense both of them are. throw in a few ‘well-meaning’ comments about qiao chusheng’s girls and about how lu yao has been looking a little peaky lately [see? she wants to say, wants to grab lu yao by the shoulders she can barely reach and shake, he’ll cancel those dates for you. he’ll do it if you let him know you need him. you just have to ask] but letting them muddle their own way out.)

cue fluff when both of them figure out what both of them really want.

Something something Nobunaga wanted to let Kincho dance among the flowers; Mitsuhide fights like a dancer, grace in every step, the flowers on his blade flash and swirl like a storm around him

Something something Mitsuhide's hair streaked in white like the rain had taken the colour with it, something something Toshimitsu offering to comb it, using the sweet smelling oils that Mitsuhide himself would never bother with, until the stands are heavy, gleaming silk in his hands. (Toshimitsu wants to do this every night, dress his lord in the silks and fineries he deserves instead of the heavy armour that never manages to lose the scent of blood.)

hello, do you want to be friends, sideblog to sideblog, to talk about how Mitsuhide’s route in SW5 is all about him forming his harem (and, you know, consequently killing and/or abandoning the majority of them aaaAAAAaA)

samurai warriors 5 feels like it has two parallel story lines:

- Nobunaga doing Nobunaga things

- Mitsuhide collecting a dating sim’s worth of boyfriends during his travels, bringing them with him when he hooks up with his ex again, and then his weirdo yandere manipulative gaslighting bastard of an ex slowly killing off his harem

I mean. I’m not not enjoying it.

Honestly though, there’s a handful of fic I would die for in this rebootverse.

- Saito Toshimitsu managing to convince Mitsuhide to take a break, just a little one, a moment to calm his nerves and hone his blade stronger for the next battle when he fails to get Mitsuhide to retire except that short break to a quiet country estate drags longer and longer and they get to live out a long and happy retirement raising ducks or something and the rest of Mitsuhide’s harem occasionally drop by with gifts.

- Nobunaga on Nohime and Mitsuhide and how similar they are, their pale skin and ink dark hair, their stillness and quiet determination. Nohime forever young, a spring blossom frozen in bloom in his memory and Mitsuhide a different sort of purity, clean and sharp as a blade that Nobunaga must hone.

- Motochika as part of Mitsuhide’s harem. Please. Please.

- Mitsuhide’s praise kink and a moment with each of his harem members just telling him he’s a good boy jajkkwejk

okay some for serious actual thoughts (but i haven’t finished the game)

- Mad that there’s no baby Yukimura who, I think, would have been an Uesugi hostage at some point before the end of the game? Give me baby Yukimura.

- Only the two mains aging up is super hilarious when there’s old Nobunaga and baby Ieyasu in one frame. Baby Ieyasu looks like Ranmaru and it’s Weird.

- I was looking forward to Nohime growing from her uncertain teenaged self more into the confident Nohime that we’ve known from previous games and I will never get over the betrayel of her being used for Nobunaga’s manpain.

- Nobunaga already had to kill a brother. That’s enough manpain without killing off one of your only female characters with (marginal, in how they characterised her) agency.

- Yasuke is admittedly hot and I don’t know if I can comment on this but whoever took the one character of African descent and decided that he fights tits out (unlike every other character) and also a fights with his fists (to be fair, so does Mitsuki) needs a wee bit of a talking to about stereotypes.

- The entire Mori clan’s talking about Shikanosuke like he’s a deer in the English (yes, I know the name pun) is exceptionally gross especially when they’re calling him energetic and sprightly (and also when they talk about taxidermying him for decoration, ig).

- Mitsuki’s introduction gets the full on male-gaze pervert camera and she is at that point maybe 12 years old. She’s the only one in the skin tight leathers and fishnet thigh slits compared to every other ninja that is well dressed.

- Shikanosuke grew on me and now I have adopted him and I will write a billion scenarios where he and Mitsuhide can be happy fishing together. I want them to take naps in the sun and for Shikanosuke to brush Mitsuhide’s long hair and go on picnic dates.

- Mitsuhide is very pretty.

- NO SERIOUSLY THEY DID NOHIME DIRTY AND I HATE IT :|

- Cocky twink Kanbei will forever crack me up, especially how he calls Hanbei senpai. I love his talismans and making him twirl.

- Hideyoshi feels like he can turn into a recognisable form of mature Hideyoshi, Ieyasu has the characterisation of a soggy paper plate so I guess he’s also like his future self.

- Mitsuhide has a fuckton of PTSD and should be in therapy, stat. In the absence of therapy, retiring to the country is advised.

I think there's promise in Bai Youning's character - after the first two or three episodes, I as expecting that she'd keep showing the sort of balls that had her counter-threatening the other boss for scaring Lu Yao but go through a character arc where she learned that her actions have consequences and learn where to draw the line but-

She literally does not care that she's knowingly publishing lies that will destroy people's livelihoods and reputations, she goes along and merrily fakes her own kidnapping during an active murder case, she shows literally no ability to learn from her own actions or any self reflection on her privileged position and how the power balance is heavily weighted to her favour because of her father.

I also find it really disturbing that she thinks sexual assault and coercion is funny.

There was that really good exchange with Lu Yao about making the world a better place, but she doesn't act on any of that rhetoric - the only person she cares about having a better life is herself and she'll recklessly put both Lu Yao and Qiao Chensheng into danger for her benefit.

Finger crossed she gets better but I think it's going downhill from here.

aaaaaa the writing on this, they have to put in more bickering scenes between her and lu yao and give her that Feisty Female Lead, Headstrong, Willful and Free-spirited, but instead they randomly make her unconscionable and short sighted and hypocritical :') please, she could have been written so much better
