Eglantine, Anastasius, and Rozemyne to the song: You, Me and Steve

Like the subtle changes to Rozemyne character (making her have less agency, making her less cunning and more submissive) are terrible for a number of reasons. One of them being how it fundamentally crumbles FerMyne. They’re framing their relationship almost exclusively as a mentor/guardian and protégée and not the give and take it was from the very beginning. It makes me sick to think they’re taking that out.

It truly makes me wonder what the fuck is the deal with WIT studio.

I still can’t get over how the Wilfred scene basically…shut up Rozemyne??? Every piece of dialogue she had was cut off, given to another character (male) or straight up voiced over. It struck me as very…shall I say sexist? How do you, in good conscience, look at a pivotal character development scene for you female protagonists and just…remove every single line of dialogue she had?

It no longer feels like Rozemyne intervening to save Wilfred. It feels like she threw a petty tantrum and now the adults are sitting at the table discussing an issue she has no voice or say in. It genuinely feels gross to watch.

I’m truly curious if the changes are blatant sexism or genuine censorship due to AoaB’s anti-authority message. (Or both)

There’s something deeply troubling about the way the anime is stripping Rozemyne of all her wit and cunning, turning her into some sort of lifeless pretty doll….

It’s always so interesting just how massively Eglantine and Anastasius jumped in her bottom line. Cause Myne forgave Dehlia, Freida and Wilfred, who very much screwed her over. But by the end of the series even Rozemyne is like ‘well, yeah maybe someday we’ll be back to normal’, meaning she has still not fully forgiven them. Specially when you consider that Rozemyne was ride or die with Eglantine.

It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is. Freida took advantage of her sickness, lying about the price of a magical tool to try and manipulate her into joining her store. And she’s still in pretty good terms with her, she still did business and played with her. Yeah, she was like ‘okay I’m never joining her store and I’m keeping my guard up’ but all things considered they were still close.

She never hated Delhia, despite the fact that her betrayal directly resulted in getting cut off from her family. She wasn’t close to her anymore, but she didn’t hate her. And part of that distance was to protect her. Plus, she was very caring and attentive to Dirk.

Not to say, these two were not…people she particularly cared for. Well, obviously she cared, but she wasn’t trying to be Freida’s friend before her little stunt because she knew she was dangerous. And Dehlia was still very much an attendant who she knew was spy, so she also kept her distance.

Wilfred is also an interesting case, because while Rozemyne cared for him, she would still pick Charlottes and Melchior over him. The whole tantrum he threw was very much a tantrum to her, and while it did hurt her - she was still willing to be his sister. Truth be told, it always felt like she saw him as a child she had to take care of, at least in part 3 and 5 (although for a hot second in Part 4 he was a vague voice of reason), so it never felt like a particular downgrade.

But Eglatine was her friend. Like, not Hannelore levels of friends, but she was a close second. She was ride or die, she was there to help her, and offer a much possible support as she could. And after that, there was a very firm line. Not drawn by anyone other than Rozemyne. And it really highlights just how much messing with her family truly is her bottom line.

Like, she can take being lied to, manipulated, used, looked down on, even have people hurt her her, (or even if they do hurt her family, if it’s a genuine accident, she’s quick to make up excuses and try to be gentler), but the moment that maliciously and intentionally someone tries to put her family at risk….yeah there’s a reason why Veronica is the only character she canonically has said ‘I hate them’ about.

Something that will always bother me is people who praise TTPD but shit on TLOAS, because there’s never been two albums that are more sister albums than them. It’s the two sides of the same fame coin. If TTPD is abt how fame consumes and destroys you, all the while drowning due to heartbreak where everyone is looking at you fall apart - TLOAS is abt how women shouldn’t shy away from the spotlight just because of that fear. That despite it all, climbing the mountain and sitting at the tope is worth it. It’s abt falling in love with everyone looking, but suddenly not caring (genuinely not caring) for the public’s opinion on it.

I know it’s probably a directive decision but it strikes me as odd how bulky they’re making Ferdinand. Cause if you look at the official LN designs, before Rozemyne started feeding him he was as close to a malnourished stick as you could get without raising suspicion.

The new episode kinda confirm that Ferdinand reminds me of SaiMono's Ko Kijin when it comes to his dynamic(mentor) with the heroine. Though I think Ko Kijin is more a softie and open book despite wearing masks everyday. He has a good first impression for me. But its the opposite in Ferdinand, Ferdinand has bad first impression for me and I'm still warming up to him until now. Its inevitable tho since Ferdinand is very immerse to his noble duties than Ko Kijin who revoke his noble status to help a friend and very concern to those people in need. I can't help but think Ferdinand is like if we gave Ko Kijin a chance to be the love interest. I still think he's the best guy in SaiMono. A guy who know how to handle money and still kind is very hot to me IDC.

This is less of a nitpick on the anime and more of an exploration of Ferdinand’s character, in the sense that,

A lot of his humor is sorta gone? Because i think one of the things about early Ferdinand is that (once you know him) he’s a really funny character. Maybe in part 1 he is not, but in part 2 and 3 he’s funny as fuck. Mostly because due to his upbringing her was forced to grow up too quickly, and by the time he joined the temple he was swamped with work 24/7. It is only when Rozemyne comes in and finally gives him a proper breathing, that his more…subtly childish side starts to pop up. And in part 3 it shines the most (and like the 2 volumes in part 5). Because well, shit hasn’t hit the fan yet.

But it’s really obvious he’s slowly indulging in his hobbies more and more, enjoying a laxer work balance, and just…being petty. Being childish, specially toward Rozemyne. Because he finally has some en who understands him, and will fight and defend him. He is kinda childish and silly with Sylvester (sometimes) but since Sylvester is ultimately the Aub and has his blood family, he still tries to act tougher than he is. Which is facade that very slowly stars cracking with Rozemyne
