So...
All in agreement that this doesn't count?
I'm not sure if this is AI, as the guy who made it has been pumping out these crappy animated films before AI animation was a thing (the Bigfoot vs Megalodon trilogy, for example). But it sadly does have a real distributor.
I expect there will be plenty more once Kong goes fully public domain.
New York Double Punch 2026
A new Blu-ray label launched today, Toy Robot Video, and they are starting off with some absolute bangers:
-GUYVER 2: DARK HERO
-Masters of the Universe (1987) NEW EXTENDED CUT
-Ninja Wars (Sonny Chiba fantasy/horror!)
-Roaring Fire (Sonny Chiba action/adventure!)
Seems like Cliff (from Arrow video) is involved so expect some pretty cool things ahead.
Some of the easy to miss easter eggs in the Sound of Thunder video posted yesterday on DinosaurMovies.
My attempts to make more "original" content leaves me trying to get creative. It's not enough to just do boring clip complications, I need to make them fun. So when I thought about doing a Sound of Thunder comp (because for some reason the clips I posted in the past always lead to a number of shares/follows eventually) the idea to have the video loop in "altered timeline" spelling like in the story sprung to mind. But I figured it would be too easy to miss, so I decided to do it a glitchy jump-scare way. And then I thought of having it gradually build up to that by having it briefly glitch out between clips, on the shots of the squished butterfly.
The altered spelling was easy to match, since it's just spelling the words by how they sound. I wasn't really settled on "Sund" being an altered spelling for Sound but leaving that word as is stuck out too much, ruining the effect.
One of my earliest encounters with the story was actually in a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror segment, that had Homer use a toaster to get sent back in time and references how killing something could change the future. Not really an "adaptation" but I thought it would be fun to incorporate somewhere.
But yeah, this was my thought process. I had a vision, no idea how I was going to make it, and now it exists. Oh how I crave creativity, if only I could make a living from it.
It's such a good distraction too. I think my mental health would improve if I could keep my mind busy.
They turned one of my childhood play scenarios into a comic.
Usually I back the slipbox versions for Legendary's Monsterverse Kickstarter offerings, but the artbook is just extravagant enough to refuse.
Gold plated pins. Seriously.
It's not really a slipbox anyway, wouldn't match the others and looks pretty un-shelf friendly.
(We all know they're going to do something for Supernova and any future projects. Couldn't an art book wait? Does their publisher require that they have a MV KS project every year?)
Edit: Okay the trailer actually says it will include art from the Supernova comic.
But they're not including art from the Skull Island comics or the Justice League crossover. I guess cause those were partnered publications.
The dinosaurmovies Tumblr is over 10 years old and hasn't reached 500 followers. The Instagram is 3 years old and has almost the same amount. I recently expanded onto Facebook and it's almost at a 1000 now after blowing up a few days ago.
But I'm reminded why I didn't want to do Facebook. The comment sections are so awful. Casual misogyny, racism, and barely legible garble. The clips I share do not invoke these types of responses, it's just poisoned minds. I'm gonna have to turn off notifications. Especially before the creationists start chiming in.
I've finally reached a responsive community but it's not the audience I want to interact with. Guess I shouldn't be surprised. At least I had the premonition to not reserve a Twitter account a few years ago.
Haven't been to the cinema since December. AMC was advertising a screening of the original Evil Dead last week but alas it was not showing at any nearby locations. But I did notice they were screening a new shark movie this week, Deep Water. Move out of the way pop stars and rock aliens, this is what I've been waiting on.
Though really, I just wanted to get a little more mileage from my membership before renewal. Plus the early reviews did seem rather stronger than anticipated.
Aa far as shark movies go, it's decent (I've seen over 140 of em. This probably ranks in the top 12, but most are garbage). The characters are run of the mill with cut and dry emotional arcs, though a few deaths were surprising (others were not). The airplane crash was quite intense and loud. The sharks were relentlessly bloodthirsty, though the gore could have been a little more. It's not a "fun" shark movie but it provides enough thrills to keep it entertaining.
Not sure if they'll be showing the Minus One screening later this month, but I think I can pass on it this time. Guess I'm waiting on Masters of the Universe next (a trailer played in front of this movie that sold me on it needing to be a cinematic experience).
Monarch season two is generally better than season one (which I still enjoyed), though to me this season did drive more patience. It gets a bit excessive cutting back and forth between characters (and that's not referring to the 50's flashbacks)
Easily the best characters in the MV, though the 50's crew is still undoubtedly more interesting. Bringing Keiko and Hiroshi into the primary cast really helped though. The drama, while a bit soap opera-ish at times, remained pretty compelling.
Like season one, monster action is still quality over quantity, even moreso as some episodes just give short shots of Titan X or Skull Island critters, leaving the bigger stuff for later.
Since season one was a callback to G14 and season two called back to KSI then the next season should callback to KOTM (and yeahhh good start on that).
Though I really wish they could pull in more characters from the films. It just seems off for Serizawa and co. to never chime in when big stuff is going on.
Wooo what a way to grab hype for season 3.
And it's not a MUTO this time.
Luigi Cozzi's 1976 colorized version of Godzilla (1954), also referred to as Cozzilla, is getting a Blu-ray release - though only in a rather pricey (and unfortunately using AI art) Showa-era film set being released in Italy.
The label releasing this, Sinister Films, tends to not go through usual authorization processes, as Italian copyright laws are different, so it's unlikely this set is approved by Toho.
Been wrecking my mind trying to think of video content for dinosaurmovies, as it has become more difficult to simply post clips, with more automatic copyright detections being used now.
I received the new release of Saurians and thought it was an interesting enough set to put together something to showcase it. Originally I was going to try to record something, but lighting was poor and I'm not comfortable using voice. I ended up using only one piece of recorded footage, everything was still photos.
So here's an amateur unpaid ad I made for nothing more other than experimenting with an editing app. But I do have a few ideas now.
So I started watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (because Takehiro), having never watched a single Godzilla movie in my life and I felt this… unexpected childlike glee when Godzilla first appeared on the screen and I’m wondering if that’s, uh, normal?
Lady Liberty has managed to avoid Godzilla so far, appearing only in promotional material but never the final product. There is already speculation that this shot may not even be from the movie either, considering the time period and Godzilla's mismatched design.
Still got her head bit off and spat out by the Cloverfield monster though.
Lost for words, but I don't think this is teasing Supernova in any way.
