to start: basics of ‘Suppression Sickness’

This is an illness caused by repeated suppression -whether by illegal medications or voluntary action- of one’s biological classification. I imagine this pertains more to Caregivers and Littles, and not Neutrals as much

This is harmful since regression (for Littles, those with CRP-F proteins dominating; see chapter 2 for details) is a natural phenomenon to regulate the body of stress. The same goes for the drive of nurturing (for Caregivers, those with CRP-A proteins dominating), which also serves as a means to regulate an individual’s mind and body.

for Caregivers, it means denying yourself of like, outlets where you feel desired and helpful, which takes a huge mental toll. for Littles, it means denying yourself a time and place to regulate. u can prob see how this is not great!!

while i’m sure it’s not completely unheard of to put one’s headspace on hold during times of intense busy-ness/everyday life, suppression sickness becomes a problem when the ‘oh i’ll self care later’ turns into an intentional avoidance of several months/years adding up.

in general, in my AU, i imagine there are places for Littles and Caregivers to properly ‘drop’ (aka, regress for Littles, and become very specifically nurturing for Caregivers). this could tech mean daycares for Littles are a thing (separate from daycares for physically young children, obv); i’m sure there’s volunteering positions in certain places for Caregivers, too!!

with that being said, Suppression Sickness points to a deliberate attack on one’s personal health. this tech counts as self h@rm when u start to think abt it :((

there are levels to suppression sickness as there are with many diseases. thinking of ‘mild, moderate, severe’ here

admittedly i’m more focused on the Little side of things for my fic but yeah lmao!!

further info in chapter 2 dives more into the known cases of severe suppression sickness and what those outcomes were (since heavier topics + spoilers for sure), as well as general side effects (spoilers, debatably, lmao)
