Question about the Ryan Gosling Extended Universe.
Okay, so, can someone explain to me where the "Colt Seavers and Ryland Grace are twins." thing comes from? I'm not judging, I'm all for changing narratives to create more interesting stories and dynamics, I'm just genuinely curious how it started. Is it just because they're both Ryan Gosling and they're both a little bit silly? I just wanna know the lore.
If it was a thing in the movies that they had mentioned that Ryland or Colt had a brother or something and people were filling in blanks then that would make sense. But, no one ever mentions Colt having any family in Fall Guy and it's pretty explicitly stated that Ryland has no family whatsoever in Project Hail Mary, which is why they send him to space in the first place.
Again, I'm not trying to say it's bad to change canon to create something new or make a narrative fit, I love that shit. I just wanna know what started it.
Wondering about this though did give me a thought.
Because you know who does have a briefly mentioned brother that is never shown or expounded upon?
Sierra Six from The Grey Man.
In The Grey Man, Six is a nameless, faceless, CIA operative/secret agent type. (a la Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible) But he does a tell a story from before he was picked up by the CIA wherein he explains that, when he was young, he and his little brother were really badly physically and verbally abused by their father. To protect his brother, Six kills their father, which is how he ends up in prison where he gets recruited by Billy Bob Thornton (I don't remember the characters name lol) and they never mention what happened to his brother.
So, then I started thinking some more. "Wouldn't it make sense that Ryland or Colt would be Six's brother?" But then I had another thought. Because Colt and Ryland are similar in nature, both kinda awkward and silly and kind of apprehensive about being the hero in their story (Colt just wanted to take a nap, dammit.)
Six is more quiet, reserved, dry humor, kind of intimidating. But, Ryan Gosling does have another character like that.
So I'm proposing this, for the councils consideration, new Ryan Gosling Sibling AU.
Driver is Six's little brother.
Maybe after their father died, Driver bounced around foster homes, maybe he ran away and lived on the street for awhile. He doesn't remember his brother, he blocked all of that out, but he has this deep love of cars, maybe him and Six used to play with toy cars, I dunno, and Shannon takes him in, gives him a job. But, you know, he's still got all this trauma from a life he doesn't even remember. He hates looking at his own face because it makes him sad but he doesn't know why (Twins, he's seeing the face of a brother he doesn't even know.) He feels like he's missing something. He seeks thrill to fill the void, he becomes a stunt driver, eventually it's not enough, he needs more adrenaline, gets into some shady shit and becomes a get away driver.
Is any of this making sense?
There's narrative parallels too. Bryan Cranston and Billy Bob Thornton both become like pseudo father figures to their respective Ryan Goslings though they are both directly responsible for the dangerous positions they are currently in and enable their bad behavior.
Both Driver and Six also become like father figures to kids that need one. Driver has Benicio and Six has Claire, both trying to be the masculine presence they never had to kids that desperately need one.
Am I cooking?? I have no idea.
Hell, you can bring Ryland and Colt back in too. Make them all brothers, fuck it, the more the merrier. I don't fucking know.
This is just a weird spiral my brain went down this morning I have no idea if this is anything interesting. I literally know nothing about the Ryan Gosling Extended Universe, as I have been calling it, so if I got anything wrong feel free to call me a dumb dumb in the comments.
Godspeed, folks.
Zoodle doodle
I think Sokka in the Avatar Aang movie did something to my brain
This song felt very Iron Lung to me Honestly probably could've used the whole thing but I'm too lazy lol

And if I said The Lying Detective was my favorite episode? What then?
Yeah I felt like I needed to make a Sherlock version of the carousel trend idk
This exists because on my Tomodachi Life island Sherlock is in love with John and Papyrus is his only other friend lmao
I just banged this shit out so quickly please tell me someone gets the vision
I made a Sherlock Holmes bookmark so I can mark my page with Sherlock Holmes while I read Sherlock Holmes
