THE PRINCESS DIARIES (2001) dir. Garry Marshall
This is my dog, Max.
He’s a little old now, and I’m scared about what that means. He has the biggest grandpa energy. He gets scared easily. He is terrified of everything, but especially fireworks—he hides under beds during the weeks leading into the Fourth of July. He barks at everything. He used to be so jealous of my chihuahua, but the day after she passed away he kept looking for her. He really enjoys sunbeams. He hates my cat, but he also chases stray cats that try to hurt her.
He’s a gentle little guy, who closes his eyes just when you’re about to give him head pats or body rubs. He’s a gentle little guy, and I love everything about him.
Finished watching The Dinosaurs documentary on Netflix and sobbed when the T-Rex (an APEX PREDATOR that would kill me if it still existed) died.
I then decided to listen to Paris Paloma’s “Triassic Love Song” at 2a and now I’m crying again.
Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves
Emily Brontë from “Death, that struck when I was most confiding”
Perhaps the World Ends Here, Joy Harjo
When you get to the end of Band of Brothers and they’re still getting hurt and dying 🥺
It’s kind of sad how I don’t have the same enthusiasm for the things I used to love to do. School kind of killed some of that and then you just realize you’re really tired and unhappy and it’s hard to get out of those funks.
I found new things I liked, but slowly even that started to fade.
I went to a diner today, and it’s one of the best mornings I’ve had in a while.

“Certain kinds of trauma visited on peoples are so deep, so cruel, that unlike money, unlike vengeance, even unlike justice, or rights, or the goodwill of others, only writers can translate such trauma and turn sorrow into meaning, sharpening the moral imagination. A writer’s life and work are not a gift to mankind; they are its necessity.”
— Toni Morrison, from “Peril,” in The Source of Self-Regard
