It was well known that rumors around Hogwarts spread like no other. Despite how big it was, the words of students and even professors worked quickly.
The usual gossip and relationship updates were a constant and it had been a bit since a truly interesting rumor made its way around. Until this week that is.
Whispers had been going around ever since a student had heard Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall talking discreetly about it by his office, that there was a vampire scoping around the forbidden forest. The word spread immediately of course and the headmaster made quick work of assigning new curfews and making sure no one dared go out at night.
Now, vampires were a well known creature of the wizarding world, but it was quite rare to see them, even rarer to have one in the forest so close to the school. Vampires weren't even residents of the forest like many other creatures, so it made sense that people were on edge.
Well, not everyone. Some made jokes about it, laughing about how they might just go out there to get bitten so they can live for eternity and be young forever. While others fully skipped just being on edge and went into straight panic mode despite Dumbledore's assurances. Overall, it was really just the next big thing that people thought would go away eventually.
"I bet you I could take a vampire, I mean all they have is those pointy teeth right? Can't be that hard to just get them square in the face or kick em' off their feet right?" Marlene spoke with half a mouthful of today's dinner.
A scoff from Lily, who was sitting just across from her, could be heard instantly. A smile on her face that read, "Really Marls?"
"You do realize they can sense blood and their endurance and stealth are off the charts right? They could sense you before you even get the chance."
You stifled at the face Marlene pulled, as she was clearly in disagreement with that. A muttered "whatever" spoken before she went back to eating.
But Lily was right. Vampires were learned throughout the first, second, and third year in the defense against the dark arts class. Clearly Marlene just didn't care to remember. Before now there was going to be basically no chance of her ever meeting one.
Vampires have always been a fascinating topic for you. The legends, history, aesthetic, all of it. They were supposedly these beautiful creatures, pale moonlit skin. Black stormy eyes, and long silky hair. With those incredibly sharp canines? What's not to be intrigued about?
Dinner wrapped up pretty quickly and the sun was beginning to set already. Making your way out of the great hall, warm candles lighting your path back to your dorm.
It was hard to get the vampire conversations out of your head. They were going on constantly and it was hard not to think of the possibility of meeting the one that's been out there for the past week now. What would they be like? Would they try turning you right away? Or drinking your blood? Maybe they wouldn't even care if they weren't hungry?
It was hard to say. It would be stupid to go out there and check. Yes. Very stupid. Curiosity did kill the cat. But…satisfaction brought it back.
With an annoyed groan, aimed at yourself, you checked what your dorm mates were doing that night so you had a chance to sneak out undetected. Was this incredibly stupid? One hundred percent. Were you going to do it anyways knowing that? Yes.
Life had been boring lately and what's more interesting than seeing what a vampire will do if it sees some random student out in the middle of the night with hardly any defense? Sure you had a wand but a strong feeling said that wouldn't be nearly enough.
It was just after eleven when you knew everyone in your dorm was fast asleep. Pulling yourself out of the small bed and dressing up in warm layers. You even took the liberty of stealing Potter's invisibility cloak to get past Filch. He had gotten enough points taken away from Gryffindor anyways.
The walk alone to the forbidden forest was starting to make you second guess your choice in doing this. The eerie sound of the wind whistling and tree branches knocking together. It was hard to say all of the creatures that lived in that forest. But as a Gryffindor, it was practically your duty to make a rash yet brave decision, right?
Sliding off the cloak as you got to the forests edge ensures that you wouldn't accidentally trip on it now. The ground only got more uneven the further you went in. All with large tree roots, rocks, loose dirt, and about a thousand tiny twigs.
Nothing could be heard that would signal a vampire's appearance yet. Would you even hear one if they showed up? Probably not.
Your heart began to beat a little heavier now, realizing more about the situation you put yourself in. You were alone, in a dark forest, with a possible hungry vampire who just might eat you. Great.
Your voice was only a quiet whisper, using your wand to light up the space in front of you like you should have been doing, before a terrified shriek left you. Jumping back so quickly your brain didn't have time to know what was happening when your foot caught one of those nasty tree roots and landed you on your back, your head hitting the dirt hard.
A quiet groan left your mouth, your head spinning. Your whole body had been trembling and it was hard to remember what you had even seen. It was something dark and light at the same time, you thought before it had clicked. Pale skin…dark eyes…long dark hair.
Quickly pushing yourself to sit up despite the growing headache, you began to reach for your fallen wand.
"Careful there darling, that was quite the fall you just took." A sultry voice spoke over you, making your head snap up and your eyes widened when you finally saw it.
When professors spoke about vampires in the classroom, they seemed to forget about the ethereal beauty that clings to them like a birth right. Sure they were said to be beautiful, but this? This was a whole other level.
The vampire's shoulder length curls framed his face perfectly, like a vintage frame to an artist's masterpiece. While his porcelain white skin and dark eyes attracted you to him like a sort of trance. Even his robes were colored onyx with the finest silver detailing.
He smirked down at you, revealing the sharp canine teeth, as you stared at him with an awestruck look.
"Are you going to get up love or shall I help you up myself?" His smooth voice made you sure he'd have no problem picking up like some rag doll.
But finally, reality set in, and the danger you thought you were in made you scramble up and run away as fast as you can. Which in retrospect wasn't very fast at all considering the uneven ground as mentioned, and the fact that you didn't get your wand from your fall, so you were running in pitch black.
His cocky laugh from behind you sent a chill through you. This wasn't going to be much of a race.
"Do you really think you can run from me?" His voice appeared behind you and his arms quickly enveloped you before you could attempt to run further.
"Sh sh sh I've got you now. That's enough squirming dear."
The head ache was starting to catch up to you now that you were still again. His voice seemed to lull your body to a calm. And the urge to fight back seemed to be decreasing. Every nerve in your body was giving up now as he kept speaking sweet nothings into your ear.
The vampire's arms were hooked underneath your own, holding pretty much all of your body weight with ease.
"There you go. Now I need you to be extra still here okay? This will only sting a bit."
Your brain barely registered what he was saying before you felt his soft hair brush across your face and then the point of his teeth graze your slowing pulse before he bit down. For a second there was a rush of adrenaline coursing through your body, a sudden white flash in your eyes until your body went limp again and you finally let your heavy eyes fall shut.
Still clinging onto consciousness you could hear his satisfied groan, his arms tightening around your chest. Though it was hard to tell, it seemed like he had been drinking from you for way too long.
You could barely feel it when he finally pulled back.
"Mmm goodness, I haven't had anything as good as you for such a long time darling. You are just divine, aren't you?"
The ground beneath you seemed to slip away and you could vaguely feel yourself being readjusted in his arms. One arm across your back and the other hooked under your knees. Using every ounce of energy in your body, you asked him a question, just barely above a whisper.
With no response from him, you finally let yourself fall asleep.
He took you back to your dorm room undetected. Placing your tired body underneath as many blankets as possible. A small smile grazing his lips as he stared at the peaceful expression on your face. How cute. Pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead, he only allowed himself to stay a few moments before going back to the forest.
The next day, waking up with a bright light shining through your curtains, you began to remember the night before. Thankfully your roommates were gone, so you didn't have to hide the expression of disbelief and whatever else you were feeling.
Your headache was gone and when you felt your neck for the bite mark, there was nothing there. Strange. Surely you couldn't have dreamed of something like that. That thought was quickly proven to be unsure when you looked over to your bedside table.
Right there, sat a glass of water, iron tablets, and a small note written in cursive.
"Sorry I took a bit too much blood from you last night darling. You were just too delectable, hope these help. Sincerely, Sirius Black."
You better bet you'd be spending the day in the library trying to figure out everything about this Sirius Black guy.
