the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

Learned that the laptop I got last year is beefier than our desktop and admittedly I have Not been able to stop giggling over this since. I’m still gonna use my laptop just for when I feel like I can’t leave the bed due to my health (or for like, it’s ever just more convenient) so I would rather not put anything hefty game-wise on there, but, it’s still so funny to me.

If you're a writer you're supposed to write a lot of bullshit. It's part of the gig. You have to write a lot of absolute garbage in order to get to the good bits. Every once in a while you'll be like "Oh, I wish I hadn't wasted all that time writing bullshit," but that's dumb. That's exactly the same as an Olympic runner being like "Oh, I wish I hadn't wasted all that time running all those practice laps"

We had 80 words submitted. The list was cleaned of any doubled and too similar words (for example: Myth and Mythology were both submitted, so Myth was chosen for the randomization) which brought it down to 74 prompts, and then put through a randomizer thirteen times. The first 31 words were then chosen for the prompts.

none of these belong to ai. these are all what human writers have been writing since day one, way before ai was invented. ai was trained to mimic how human writers write — so em dash, not x not y but z and short sentence stacking would never have been used by ai at all if ai hadn’t learned and mimicked them from human writers.

no, you are not “fighting against ai” by accusing every work that has em dash, not x not y but z or short sentence stacking in it as ai-generated, you are helping ai harm the writing community by engaging in witch hunt and scaring human writers away from creating/sharing their works for fear of being wrongly accused of using ai.

speculations, accusations and ai witch hunt harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.
