Kistra didn't even respond to the transmissions just ran the whole way to the medbay, she definitely broke at least one vase on her way, the doors slammed open, she did a once over of the room, eyes locking onto Plague, eyes widening, tears of pure relief welling up, she crossed the room as fast as humanly possible, afraid to hug him, not knowing what kind of injuries he'd sustained, she immediately gripped his hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it, trying not to start full on sobbing.
"You're alive- You're alive-"
Her voice was breathless and strained, looking him over, assessing his injuries, her free hand reaching up to cradle the side of his cheek.
“ . . Hi , General Tallisk . “
He greeted her with his usual lopsided ‘ grin , ‘ which was more of a scowl , but he couldn’t help it . It was just how he smiled , apparently .
Plague sat up . “ I haven’t seen you in ages . “
“ . . Was that always on your face ? . . “
He shook his head . “ Anyway . . I didn’t sustain any major injuries , so you don’t need to worry . I think I’ve gone crazy , though . “ He chuckled to himself .
Despite his humorous approach to it , he was very obviously exhausted . Physically and mentally . He had given up hope long before rescue , which hadn’t been too great to deal with .
“ What’s new ? Did I miss anything ? “
His tired grin fell with a sigh .
“ . . We lost our squad medic . “
“ . . Again . “
Her arms curled around him, gently, not wanting to exacerbate any injuries, his head coming to rest on her shoulder, fingers lacing through his hair.
"Oh Plague... I'm so sorry... I'm so, so sorry..."
” He was just a shiny . Just got appointed to medic .. Poor thing .
It was easy to tell he was extremely upset .
“ I . . I watched him die . They killed him , right in front of us ! . . “
Plague clenched his jaw .
Kistra bit back the sob that threatened to bubble up, this was Plague's time to mourn, not hers. She pressed kiss after kiss to his soft hair, thanking the Force he was alive and back in her arms.
"Oh baby..."
Her voice was a breathless whisper, her fingers curling in the fabric of his shirt, pulling him closer.
He reached up , hiding his face in his hand . He didn’t like crying in front of others , but he really couldn’t help it this time .
“ .. He was stubborn . Reckless . Snarky . “
Plague let out a quiet sob .
“ . . Shiny . “
He shook his head . “ I’m sorry , Kistra . I shouldn’t trouble you with my emotions .. “
Her heart broke at his words, she pulled him closer to kiss his forehead, her thumb wiping a falling tear. Force above would this war never end? How many more innocent lives? How many more boys taken too young? How much longer?!
"You never trouble me, you're not a bother, or a burden, or any of those other words I can see lurking, you are my friend, and friends share each other's hurts and heartaches..."
Her eyes were glassy as she cradled his cheek, coaxing him to meet her gaze.
"Please... talk to me... don't hold back... I don't want you to bottle this up..."
Plague slumped back against the medical bed , a sad little noise escaping him .
“ . . I just feel bad dumping it all on you . Doesn’t feel right . “
The clone frowns .
“ But . . Thank you . “
He sniffled .
"You're not dumping."
She reached up, using her sleeves to wipe his tears, feeling like her heart was wrapped in barbed wire so tightly it could barely beat, that sound nearly shattered the frage control she had over her own emotions.
"Force knows I've cried on your shoulder plenty, please, vod, let me return the favor..."

Kistra had her hair pulled up, wearing shorts she'd definitely stolen from Hunter and a bikini/sport bra top, carrying her sandals in one hand.
"Enjoying the sun there big guy?"

"Kistra", the chiss called for the other Jedi as soon as she saw her in the hallway. "Hi" she looked a bit troubled as she approached. "Excuse me, may I have a word with you?"

Kistra turns, a smile blossoming on her lips as she spotted her fellow master across the hall, a few quick steps bringing her to her friend's side, her expression softens at the chiss' troubled expression.
"But of course my friend, something weighs on you."
She settles a gentle hand on her shoulder, offering a squeeze.
"How can I help?"
"I had a few... Concerns, regarding Joan"
"As you may know, the kid has been jumping into action a lot lately, you would know. You saw it yourself on Umbara two months ago" she paused, thinking of how to get to the point without making any of them waste time.
"There is virtually nothing I can do to stop them from racing at the battlefield nowadays. Even when under my vigilance they still find a way to get trouble to find them, like they did in Mon Calamari. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I can't protect them, I want them to have a wider range of ways to do it themself. Joan won't spend another three rotations in the medbay, they made that clear", she laughed.
"Do you think you could help me arrange a couple sessions with your former Master? I know Mace Windu is a warrior of remarkable skill, so, if by any chance there's something he can teach Joan that I cannot, it would be my pleasure to have him train them for a short while."
Kistra nods, cringing visibly at three reminder of Umbara, schooling her features back into a thoughtful expression forming on her face as she listened, a smile forming on her face after a moment, Joan was certainly a firecracker, she loved their passion and energy, it was infectious.
"I understand your concerns, my friend, I'll see what I can do, I'm sure I can con him into doing some training for a friend."
She pats Ist'ar's shoulder with a reassuring smile.
"They certainly have an eye for mischief."
Kistra tucks her hands in her pockets, trying to figure out how best to phrase her words.
"Hopefully... by the time they're knighted they'll have some more discretion... eventually they'll be off the leash,"
She hesitates for a moment, before settling on her words.
"when I was first knighted, I was excited about having freedom from all my master's rules... but then... the world was very big and scary without them, without him, I'm sure Joan will figure that out as well, you're doing a wonderful job with them, my friend."
I hope so", she smiled, if not a bit awkwardly. "I guess we all go through that, huh?", a laugh escaped her lips. "I just hope the war is over by the time I can 'let go of that leash', or that they've become a tad more prudent, at least."
Kistra smiles back, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"Me too my friend, me too, I'll admit all the fighting is beginning to wear on me...*

Well... that didn't go according to plan... even remotely...
Kistra was abundantly aware of that fact, but it was a last ditch effort, short of giving up completely, and if the damn reinforcements had come on time it would have worked!
She could feel how stiff Plague was next to her as they stood, side by side in front of a very pissed off Mace Windu, his death glare had her withering where she stood, feeling like a scolded padawan. Before Plague had a chance to open his mouth, she took a slight step forward and a deep breath, before blurting:
"It was my idea, actually, sir. Just uhm- didn't go as smoothly as anticipated..."

Plague could feel himself dying inside as he tried not to look Mace in the eye . He had kriffed up . It was the worst he’d kriffed up since he was a cadet in training . His own general had been more forgiving , but she had since left .
Plague , you di’kut ! He mentally scolded himself , armored fists clenching at his side . A bead of sweat rolled down his forehead . His face was scrunched up in guilt , but luckily he was wearing his helmet so it wasn’t visible he was nervous .
Mace scared him , to say the very least . He couldn’t imagine being in his legion ..
As Kistra spoke , he raised an eyebrow . What the hell is she on about ? It’s my fault .
“ General Tallisk .. “ He whispered under his breath , hissing out the words through his clenched teeth . “ What the kriff are you talking about ? “
She gave Plague the 'play along' side eye of the century, before forcing an awkward smile, Mace looked like he was fighting an eye roll.
"No one's dead though, and the damages were minimal."
Kistra says, forcing herself to put on her general voice, even though she felt like a scolded padawan.
"I assure you I'm fully capable of handling the situation from here."
Plague didn’t doubt that she was capable of it , but he didn’t want her to handle it . It was his shitty idea , he should be the one handling it .
He couldn’t lie , he appreciated her taking the hit , but it wasn’t her hit to take . He had screwed up and he had to be a responsible Commander by taking accountability for it .
“ Kistra .. “ Plague whispered . It felt weird to call her by her first name , especially on duty , but he hoped it’d get her attention .
Kistra side eyed him even harder, if that was possible, silently screaming at him to play along. Mace couldn't stay mad at her for long, and he'd probably forget about it in favour of someone else's screw up before the day was over.
"Nothing to worry about, Master, I'm handling it."

Kistra knew from experience how frustrating it was being in a cast, it was the worst. She'd been there... more than once, she couldn't even brush her own hair! Having to rely on other people to help her do even the most basic tasks was hard... really hard.
So naturally, watching Plague attempt to shave, with his left hand, made her cringe, both because he'd already managed to cut himself once, and because she sympathized wildly with the difficulty of functioning with your non-dominent hand. So, she perched on the counter, holding his face still with one hand, while she carefully guided the razor along his stubbly jaw, careful not to accidentally nick the sensitive skin there.

Plague hated when his facial hair grew back . He didn’t like the texture of it , and it made him look funny , in his opinion .
Not being able to shave it himself made him want to scream , so Kistra assisting him made him feel a bit better .
He tilted his chin up so she could get to the stubble easier .
Plague wanted to insist he could do it himself , but that would be a lie , and he didn’t lie . His right hand was unusable and it frustrated him . Help was wanted .
The tip of her tongue poked out between her lips in concentration, carefully guiding the blade along the curve of his jaw, head tilted at a 45° degree angle, her free hand cradling his cheek, thumb absentmindedly stroking along the bone there, a stray bit of hair fallen across her face as she worked.
³⁶⁾ reading to them
Kistra loved to read, in fact she usually had a book stashed somewhere in the pockets of her robes, whether to wait out a particularly boring transport, or to keep her company on cold deployment nights. Her quarters had no shortage of books, on the shelves, on the table beside her bed, a few stacked on the floor, adding to the comfortable chaos of her personal haven.
She was sitting against the pillows on her bed, Plague's cheek resting on her lap, his eyes were close, but he was stiff. She knew better than to ask him what was wrong, he'd brush it off like he always did, she hoped he'd learn to open up, but she wouldn't push him, he needed rest, not interrogation, so she flipped the page, starting a chapter about Mandalorian customs, and ran her fingers through his hair, beginning the chapter aloud. Her master always read to her when she couldn't make her mind slow down and rest, so, she could give Plague something to focus on other than his own tumultuous thoughts.

Plague lit up a little as she started reading to him . The topic interested him , and he wanted to listen .
He was stressed .
Stressed was an understatement . But he’d rather amputate his own two legs than talk about it . That was usually how it was .
But even just being around her was enough to calm him down a bit . He appreciated the fact that she let him mope in her quarters . He appreciated it more than he appreciated new gear .
Her fingers laced through his soft, dark hair, voice soft and even as she read, adding little inflections here and there, fingers occasionally brushing over his soft skin. Moments like these were some of her favourites, quiet moments stollen away from the chaos of the war, just the two of them in their peaceful haven.

Kistra's quarters were well known amongst her legion (and the others she'd taken under her wing) as a space full of blankets, laughter, and best of all snacks.
The Jedi endeavored to keep a good stock of various crunchables, and plenty of instant noodles packets. But there were a few, special things she kept for specific visitors, something they liked the best. Like the small box full of various cookie and chip bags that had Plague's name written on the top in her loopy handwriting.

Plague would visit her very often . He found it to be more comforting than the barracks . Sure , his brothers and sisters were there , but there was something much more homey — not that he knew what a real home was like— about it .
He also loved the abundance of snacks . Plague had a sweet tooth like no other , and she always had something for him . His favorite snack she had was some kind of nut cookie . They tasted almost exactly like uj cake ! Just thinking about it made his mouth water .
Plague didn’t know how or where she got all of those snacks but he was eternally grateful .
Plus , she let him nap on her floor . Who else would ? Nobody he knew .
Kistra loved sharing her safe haven of a space. This was her home, her space to share, it made her feel safe and cozy, she wanted to share that feeling with the people she loved most. It always made her heart do a little stuttery thing when she saw Plague napping peacefully on the soft carpet, sometimes she'd just lay down next to him, she didn't necessarily sleep, just felt his warmth, listened to his breathing, and his soft little snores, it soothed her constantly racing thoughts and reminded her he was here, safe and alive at her side.

Well... that didn't go according to plan... even remotely...
Kistra was abundantly aware of that fact, but it was a last ditch effort, short of giving up completely, and if the damn reinforcements had come on time it would have worked!
She could feel how stiff Plague was next to her as they stood, side by side in front of a very pissed off Mace Windu, his death glare had her withering where she stood, feeling like a scolded padawan. Before Plague had a chance to open his mouth, she took a slight step forward and a deep breath, before blurting:
"It was my idea, actually, sir. Just uhm- didn't go as smoothly as anticipated..."

Plague could feel himself dying inside as he tried not to look Mace in the eye . He had kriffed up . It was the worst he’d kriffed up since he was a cadet in training . His own general had been more forgiving , but she had since left .
Plague , you di’kut ! He mentally scolded himself , armored fists clenching at his side . A bead of sweat rolled down his forehead . His face was scrunched up in guilt , but luckily he was wearing his helmet so it wasn’t visible he was nervous .
Mace scared him , to say the very least . He couldn’t imagine being in his legion ..
As Kistra spoke , he raised an eyebrow . What the hell is she on about ? It’s my fault .
“ General Tallisk .. “ He whispered under his breath , hissing out the words through his clenched teeth . “ What the kriff are you talking about ? “
She gave Plague the 'play along' side eye of the century, before forcing an awkward smile, Mace looked like he was fighting an eye roll.
"No one's dead though, and the damages were minimal."
Kistra says, forcing herself to put on her general voice, even though she felt like a scolded padawan.
"I assure you I'm fully capable of handling the situation from here."
