okay so was anybody going to tell me there are two absolutely exquisite princess tutu anime guidebooks or was i just supposed to find out by scouring broken livejournal posts & japanese auction sites myself??
post is old but i have higher res versions of ducks poses, tho the first one is from a different book
ive also found a website that catalogues the character refs in the lower left, better covers, and a decent page of edel
Art by April Lee for "Forbidden Fruit", a Patalliro fic by Steph Rendino. From the third volume of Anime House Presents, a late 80s to early 90s anime zine.
bits from this fic that cracked me up more than I think they were meant to
link here if you want to see the full thing, it's in volume 3
patalliro as a work is so fascinating to me because like. "what if james bond was a gay anime prettyboy" is such a fun pitch. aesthetically, the blend of romantic vintage shoujo with groovy mod psychedelia goes incredibly hard. it's one of the oldest anime in the world to feature an explicitly gay relationship, and it's between two complex, fascinating, flawed characters.
BUT! all that is on the background. what patalliro is actually about is an obnoxious 10-year-old Doing Bits
Art by Lee Dunning for "Be Careful of Your Little Boy", a Patalliro fic by Barbara Tennison. From the third volume of Anime House Presents, a late 80s to early 90s anime zine.
i was patalliro for Ycon!! i rarely cosplay, but i thought this would be the perfect opportunity to dress up as the protagonist of the first ever bl anime <:)
con halls aren't exactly the most ideal photoshoot location, so i'd like to take more proper pictures later, to show all the outfit's details. i had a lot of fun making it! (^o^)★
This is the cover art I did for NOVA, a manga zine from the 1980’s. I was a huge fan of Patalliro, and had the albums, laser disc film, and most of the manga. I don’t keep up with it anymore, but I really loved the unique art style.

BL-flavored historical manga? With French Revolution? With David-Bowie Saint-Just? Instant pick-up!
Apparently, the author (Hasegawa Yoshiko) who wrote the story for this manga also released a novel, サン・ジュスト転生 (Saint-Just Tensei, Saint-Just Reincarnated) in 1994. It looks like an obscure release from what I can tell, but those who are interested are encouraged to track it down.
