I’m going to talk about this matter only once and won’t come back on it again, but I just feel the need to express myself. You might not take my opinion seriously since I’m a Shawol and a mvp on top of it but whatever. 

I can’t bear reading all those comments saying Onew didn’t deserve the award of best leader and that the voting was rigged. First of all, money, fame and fandom size have nothing to do with this award since only his peers voted; it means that the idol themselves voted, those people who live backstage with SHINee, who see what’s really going on behind the curtain. If anyone was to be the best able to say who the best leader in the industry is, it’s the idols themselves.  Then, let me remind you SHINee is almost 8 years old and the band is still complete; they are also known as one of the most (if not the most) professional, polite and hard-working group. People working in the industry never miss an occasion to praise SHINee, might it be about their behavior or work. They are also known to be one of the least problematic group; they’re respectful towards their fans, staff,etc.  Onew is not the kind of leader to speak up and he’s definitely not the leading character type of person. He’s not going to promote his group, nor is he going to express himself easily (jjong is almost always the one to take the floor), but what makes him the best leader is all the little things he does on a daily basis. It’s all the little things that force his members to keep their feet firmly on the ground. You know, when shinee debuted they were young and spent almost all of their time together; onew had to play the role of ‘big brother’ which means the person the members could look up to, the person they could use as an example. And seeing what shinee became, we can be sure onew is an amazing person.

so yes, I truly believe Lee Jinki deserved that award, no matter what other fandoms say.

though a subtle accomplishment, according to a post made on instiz, shinee’s odd and ft island’s i will are recognized as two the two albums on melon with the highest rating score of the year with 4.7 out of 5 stars earlier on this year it also came to the attention of netizens that almost all of the songs on odd exceed 50k likes (the only exception being “alive” which has 49k) which is not something too common. though not mentioned in the post, jonghyun’s story. op.1 also has a rating score of 4.7, which can be seen above. congrats!

honestly onew doesnt deserve tht leader award. they gave it as a mark of his seniority. other than that i dont see any "qualities" that would make others envious. add on that his year long hiatus during which his group was not together. its only matter of time when shinee disbands. i feel sorry for you delusional fans.

well this was unexpected.  luckily i too have nothing better to do.

wouldn’t his being the senior most leader be a good reason to give him the leader award?  (he wasn’t, by the way, taeyeon was.)  that means that he’s led his group the longest & most successfully. 

out of the sm artists represented he was the only one with all the original members; out of all the groups represented his is the only one that consistently is a part of the creation of their own discography; out of all the groups represented his is the only one with successful solo artists; out of all the groups represented his is the only one that consistently receives popularity awards to the point that taemin & kibum (as toheart) won last year.

with that kind of success as a group who wouldn’t vote for him as leader? 

beyoned that, he is known for being kind, polite, & humble.  minho just said that he has a soft charisma & puts himself in the middle of the group instead of above it.  taemin has said that he listens & then gives advice, but doesn’t force his opinion on the others.  jonghyun has said that he is soft-hearted & worries over the group.  kibum has said he wishes he’d dress better.  ;)

maybe shinee will disband in the future, maybe.  not soon based on the way they talk about their group & the reality that they just renewed their contract.  personally i see them going the way of shinwa & continuing on for years to come, writing their own music & having successful solo careers as singers, songwriters, & actors.  we’ll see. 

by the way, he was gone for less than six months & it was major surgery.  they were active that entire year, first with their world concert series & then their japanese arena tour.

Okay, I know this isn’t my post but the anon rubbed me the wrong way and I have to say something. @onthighsbelongtotaemin, you said it so well but I have a couple things to add onto.

How the heck can someone tell me that Lee Jinki doesn’t deserve this award? Even if it’s one person, how can you look at the long history of SHINee, seven and a half years of hard work along with the training period that all of them had to go through to become the best of the best.

Jinki entered the company at about 16/17 and debuted with his group at 18/19, barely being done with both school and still growing himself, he had to then lead all these younger people when he himself had so much more to learn. Along with training hard to become such a talented man and having his talent be recognized by the president of SM, he was the second top student in his school. 

He had a lot to go through to get to where he is today. He is honestly one of the best leaders I’ve ever seen in the KPOP industry, and I don’t say that lightly with me being a 5 year kpop fan. Even though at times it seemed like he was unsure of his position in the group and whether or not he was right for it, he had his four members always looking up to him and saying how much his guidance had helped them throughout all the years of being together. He’s fragile and he cries as easily as Key and Jjong but he keeps it together as much as possible because he is supposed to lead, he’s supposed to be someone to lean on so he always pushes his problems to the side to take care of his members.

Also, kindly fuck off with the “year long hiatus”. As OP had said, it was only six months and it was a major surgery about something that could have majorly impacted his career as a singer. And you know what? He felt terrible that he had to go through all of that and he was away from shawols to the point where in SWC 4 in the beginning of this year, he randomly started crying because of all the hardships he was facing. He loves and takes care of not only his band members but his fans too and he feels he still needs to constantly be better and do better and become better to be able to be called a ‘leader’. 

Lee Jinki absolutely deserves this award.
