Fun story: I actually had almost this exact situation happen to me.

So about a year ago I was at my cousin’s wedding (this was in 2019 before COVID happened, don’t @ me). He and his wife are both massive nerds and had a lovely Hobbit-themed setup, complete with playing music from the LOTR/Hobbit movies and other pieces of pop culture and fandom while people arrived and signed the guestbook.

My very conservative, very “weddings are Serious And Holy Occasions” immediate family was generally behaving during the pre-ceremony mingling but still quietly disapproving every time they recognized a song from some movie or another.

Then, rather abruptly, they cheered up at a particular song. “Oh!” my mom exclaimed while my grandparents nodded. “Oh, I don’t even recognize it, but I like this one. Such a classy piece, don’t you think?”

“Why yes,” I smiled, nodding along to the bouncy pseudo-classical piano and strings rendition of the Sailor Moon theme song. “It is a nice song.”
