Happy Trans Day of Visibility, Ellipsus fam! 🏳️‍⚧️

Right now, this day is hugely significant for trans authors in ways that are very real, and (unfortunately) very immediate. Trans people are facing coordinated attacks from fascist orgs and governments; censorship is spreading, and creative voices are being targeted. But despite it all, trans joy and art persists; in fact, it’s only growing louder.

Stories tell truths. Fascism seeks to disconnect people from knowledge, empathy, history, and finally, each other. Through dark times, writers armed with nothing but words have exposed injustice and changed culture by keeping their communities connected. By writing, they kept empathy alive.

Millions of trans, non-binary, and genderqueer people are finding freedom in creative expression—vitally, now more than ever. Trans stories shape the brilliant and beautiful world that is queer art. We need to keep that light visible, and help these stories continue.

Author's note : Coming back with a little poem I wrote after a while of being gone. It's free verse so not very structured but I hope it's okay!

you tailor me the most beautiful of clothes

all satin and sunlight

soft and silken and bunched

adorned with filaments of gold

but under the intricately weaved fabric

thorns lie ready to prick my skin

when i look more closely

those sparkling jewels are made of my tears

i’m drowning in the weight of your pretty petticoat

and you draw the corset so tight

that my lungs are pierced

and my breath turns weak

my blood drips down the bodice

pooling in the pale satin of snow

you never would have noticed

for i never dared to make a sound 

you wrap the scarf around my neck

so taut it’s slowly strangling me

and you think about just how lovely i can be

when i’m exactly where you want me

how pretty, don’t you think?

because after all, those lucky girls

the ones worthy of donning your clothes

should learn to keep their mouths shut

with every accessory you adjust 

and every fold you tack

you silence me

until i’m voiceless

breathless

that needle of yours is killing who i am

you are sewing sinew and flesh anew

letting scarlet spill from between my seams

leaking along my ribs with nothing to staunch it

you wanted a masterpiece

and you use my defenceless body as a canvas

pinning my soul through and through

like it’s a stitch out of place begging to be fixed

but, mother, if you truly knew how to sew

you should have known that

clothes are meant to be tailored to the wearer

and not the wearer to the clothing

i don’t fit into your clothing

its fabric makes my skin itch

the waist of that bodice is too small

and my heart is too big

PLOT BLURB:
