Trivia Tuesday
Creators: give a “behind the scenes” look at one of your works. This could be things that got removed or changed, the origins of ideas/details, whatever you like!
Fans: share bits of trivia from canon and challenge others to create something based on that trivia - fic, art, or something else! I once made a crossword puzzle :)
Feel free to repost this header!
Behind the scenes look at City of Angels -- Character Names
“Carrie” came first, then “Carolina.” I call this “reverse nicknaming,” a process in which I first determine a character’s nickname or the shortened version of their name that they tend to go by, and then determine their full name afterwards. I knew I wanted my main character to be called “Carrie,” but I didn’t like the name Caroline (it reminded me too much of Little House on the Prairie). Hence, I settled on Carolina (pronounced Caro-LYE-na, not Caro-LEE-na).
Samantha’s name has a rather amusing origin. In the early stages of conceptualizing City of Angels--when it still existed primarily in my head and I hadn’t yet edited out the unnecessary melodrama--there was a scene in which Don overheard Carrie talking affectionately on the phone with someone she addressed as “Sam.” This, of course, resulted in an angsty misunderstanding, as he believed Sam to be a male and possibly Carrie’s significant other. He later asked Carrie about this, only to discover that “Sam” was Samantha, her sister. Eventually I decided that this scene had to go, but the name Samantha and nickname “Sam” remained. xD
Josh: I love this picture of the staff. We were so happy.
Sam: Where is Mandy?
Josh: She didn't work here yet. That's why we were so happy.
Hence the reason that she was cut after Season 1.
the beginning of every early 2000s barbie movie
kelly: barbie i cant do this thing
barbie: yes you can here listen to this story about self insert me as a princess
someone: why isnt that character as developed as ur other ones….
me: bc i havent found the right songs to daydream them to yet
when u find that perfect song to daydream a character to and u can finally plan out their story arc
So true.
I hate that in order for me to get to the point where I can write and post fluff for my OTPs, I must first write the slow burn of how they got together in the first place.

21, 22, and 30 for the writer’s ask game!! (It’s Alexis btw :) )
Thank you so much for the ask! :)
21. Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write?
It’s difficult to choose because I love all my characters so much, but probably Carrie Schultz from City of Angels. She’s such a deep, contemplative character, and I love the range that gives me as far as what types of things I can write and explore in her story, from description to dialogue to the introspection that shows how she expresses—and sometimes represses—her emotions. She’s also the only character so far whose story I’ve chosen to write from the first-person perspective—she just lends herself so well to it—so that’s another thing that makes her special.
22. Who is/are your favourite pairing(s) to write?
Carrie Schultz and Don DaGradi. (Can you tell I’m prejudiced towards my City of Angels cast? 😂) I absolutely adore writing the interplay between them, because they click so well and are so friendly and respectful toward each other from the start, and every little gesture between them bespeaks how much they care for each other, even when they haven’t consciously fallen in love yet. I love all my pairings wholeheartedly, but Carrie and Don are probably my biggest OTP.
30. Favourite idea you haven’t started on yet
One of these days, I would love to write my MCU canon-divergent series, which also crosses over with The West Wing. I have so many exciting ideas for it—really, the only thing causing me to hesitate is the fact that it contains a self-insert. But maybe someday…

Hey, Donny! Thanks for the message; it’s good to hear from you. I’ve been doing well, although mourning the all-too-quick passage of summer, haha. I like your new icon; it’s very cute. How have you and your queen been? :)
