'Wark!' The porg responds happily to the noise, bouncing along closer behind now that the shiny other bird had slowed down.

      He is going to enjoy this. Dameron won’t know what hit him. Our job is to keep Princess Kadri Dameron safe. You will peck out their eyes. Or scream at them. Whatever is your function for damage.

The shiny thing was going away! 'Wark!' The porg waddles after, flapping little wings to keep up. Were they going to play a game?

   He actually rolls slower so his droid-thing can keep up. It would be rude to leave it behind. Now, I will teach you how to survive as a droid. Together we will be unstoppable.

'Wark.' The porg looks at the shiny thing curiously, tilting it's head sideways. It sounds like a fellow bird, but it doesn't understand.

   Wark is not a word. The small thing makes him feel tall. He can work with this. Follow. You are my droid now.

A blaster upgrade? Kriff, he’s not dealing with that. “Yeah, talk to Leia about the upgrade too. I’m not authorizing that.” He’d probably end up getting shot within five minutes of that. He nods softly and sighs. It’s going to be hard helping her with nightmares; their roles are usually reversed. “I know. I’ll be there for her, Patch. Don’t worry.”

  You would if you loved me. I’m telling Kadri you won’t approve a critical upgrade. Like a child he will run between his parents to get what he wants. BB-8 is the elder brother who should be stopping this. I will too. Don’t get ahead of yourself, Dameron.

And there’s the snark he was expecting. Patch definitely got his personality from Kadri. “Yeah, I am a commander. We’re still not planting traps.” He’s adamant about that. “You and BB-8 can take turns guarding the room at night, how about that? And you’ll be there to protect Kadri when she’s on missions.”

I will talk it over with General Organa. This is happening. It’s the only safe measure. I want a blaster upgrade. If he’s going on missions he needs more than just his taser. To keep his family safe. She will need you in dreams. I expect her nightmares will not be pleasant.

He’s in agreement with the droid until he mentions traps. “Absolutely not. We’re not booby-trapping our room, Patch. We’ll figure something else out.” He’s not sure what ‘something else’ is yet, but he’s not letting it be traps at the door. “That’s too dangerous. She could get hurt from that.” Like that’s the only reason they shouldn’t be planting traps.

Then I shall remain online during charging time for you two. I can defend you. He won’t let her get hurt again. He refuses. The traps would be modded to only react to those not allowed in the room. This is simple. I thought you were a Commander. Have you not heard of this before?

Now I have a reason to be awake. Kadri needs me. And you. He is only apart from her since she sent him to check on the pilot. We need to keep her safe. We cannot lose her again. He bends his head to project a layout of their shared room. I say we plant traps at the doors. For her safety.

    Shocking you would defeat the point of shocking him. He leans into her and just makes sure to map her body by how it presses against his durasteel. I do not like being apart from you.

   I defended your honour. I shocked Dameron. He had. Hard. Even though Poe had been clearly upset. Just because he was the one who stopped Kadri from doing bad things. From DYING. The droid makes a soft sad beep. Never leave me behind again.
