What happened the to asteroid itself after the huge Impact? Was it just eroded away? With how big it was, there’s gotta be at least pieces of it left, right? This is thing that always get me with stuff like this. People almost never talk about what happened to the asteroid, though I don’t really have enough interest to seek the info myself so that could just be me not looking
most of the Chicxulub asteroid was vaporized on impact and settled into a layer of fine particles that's found in rock layers worldwide, but it also actually did punch all the way through the crust and into the mantle, completely destabilizing Earth's volcanic cycle, so slight traces of it may still exist inside the Earth as well!
but yeah this is what it looks like now:
that's the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. it's both everywhere and nowhere.
yeah, actually! there was a very hot open wound in Earth's crust there for a couple MILLION years, but because it wasn't on a tectonic plate boundary or on top of a mantle plume feeding liquid magma up from Earth's core, there was no geologic process keeping it open so it eventually scabbed over and healed like a scraped knee.
yeowch.

The Andromeda Galaxy in Ultraviolet : What does the Andromeda galaxy look like in ultraviolet light? Young blue stars circling the galactic center dominate. A mere 2.5 million light-years away, the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, really is just next door as large galaxies go. Spanning about 230,000 light-years, it took 11 different image fields from NASA’s Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite telescope to produce this gorgeous portrait of the spiral galaxy in ultraviolet light in 2003. While its spiral arms stand out in visible light images, Andromeda’s arms look more like rings in ultraviolet. The rings are sites of intense star formation and have been interpreted as evidence that Andromeda collided with its smaller neighboring elliptical galaxy M32 more than 200 million years ago. The Andromeda galaxy and our own comparable Milky Way galaxy are the most massive members of the Local Group of galaxies and are projected to collide in several billion years – perhaps around the time that our Sun’s atmosphere will expand to engulf the Earth. via NASA
When is an Exoplanet, not an Exoplanet ?
When it's a star !
Spotting planets orbiting stars is like observing a mosquito hovering around a candle over a mile away, yet, in the last few decades, much progress has been made using a variety of different techniques, either looking at gravitational influences or a slight dipping as the planet passes by the front of it, more recently, directly observation for the largest further out planets.
There's a huge amount of uncertainty in the process, and often we need to wait for several passes around the star before we can confirm, so discovering a planet isn't really a planet is sadly a common thing, but from time to time, it turns out, the planet was in fact a star.
HD 131399 was first found to have a planet in the 1990s, a planet in a system of 3 stars. However, more recent observations have shown the planet has moved, and the answer is that at the time of the initial observation, the so called exoplanet was aligned exactly with the 3 star system (similar to how Star B and Star A appear together in January in the above diagram).
Follow up observations have not only shown the object not to be in the system at all, but much further away. The dim nature of the object is most likely down to it being a red giant.
This is one of the reasons why all exoplanet finds are classified as candidate, until such time that multiple observations can confirm the planet.

M78 - Reflective Nebula Montage
M78 is 1,350 light years from Earth in the constellation of Orion. Reflective nebula simply reflect the light of young superhot stars, are often blue in colour for this reason. Dark dust lanes conceal some of the reflective light, while hydrogen further out glows red as it is bombarded by ultra violet light.
The James Webb has reached another alignment milestone! All optics running smooth!
"On March 11, the Webb team completed the stage of alignment known as “fine phasing.” At this key stage in the commissioning of Webb’s Optical Telescope Element, every optical parameter that has been checked and tested is performing at, or above, expectations."

Mid Eclipse and Milky Way : May’s perigee Full Moon slid through Earth’s shadow yesterday entertaining night skygazers in regions around the Pacific. Seen from western North America, it sinks toward the rugged Sierra Nevada mountain range in this time-lapse series of the total lunar eclipse. Low on the western horizon the Moon was captured at mid-eclipse with two separate exposures. Combined they reveal the eclipsed Moon’s reddened color against the dark night sky and the diffuse starlight band of the Milky Way. Frames taken every five minutes from the fixed camera follow the surrounding progression of the eclipse partial phases.
