Rey and Zorii
The authors at Lukasfilm had choice of how to write Zorii in “Free Fall”. And in the end, she was made even more like Rey than she was before the book was released. Rey is almost a complete copy of Poe’s first love…
So, Rey and Zorii: • Both thin, athletic brown-haired women with greenish eyes and sharp facial features (just look at the actresses!) • Both ambidexters and good at handling almost all types of weapons, excellent hand-to-hand combatants. • Both are very quick-witted and quick to learn, and constantly impress Poe with whatever they do. • Both come from, well, the dark side: Rey is the Emperor’s granddaughter, Zorii is the daughter of a tough and bloodthirsty gang leader. • Both are prone to almost animal aggression when it comes to fighting and protecting friends. • Both are constantly withholding secrets from Poe, in both cases Poe was almost ready to sink to the level of eavesdropping behind them. • Both are very stubborn and like to argue with Poe, but both without question trust his decision at the right time. • In both cases there is / was a common droid: BB-8 for Poe and Rey, and EV-6B6 for Po and Zori. • Both are willing to do anything for their family. • Both met Poe at about the same age (Rey was 19, Zorii ~ 18), and the way Poe introduced himself to them was the same, scenes are too similar. • And they both saved Poe’s life more than once, and once they saved him from their relatives: Rey stopped the Emperor’s lightning on Exegol, which had almost killed Poe in his fighter, Zorii - SPOILER - saved Poe from her mother.
Well, there are quite a few coincidences between these two ladies.
But unlike Zorii, Rey is not so cruel and much more merciful. And she looks more like the ideal woman for Poe – like his mother Shara Bey and Leia Organa. And Rey, like Poe, is fighting for a higher purpose, not for the prosperity of her family and profit.
Family for Rey is the Resistance, Poe, Finn, BB-8 and Chewie. The family for Zorii is her gang, and she helped Poe because he was the part of her family long time ago and, well, because Rey forced to help them lol.
Also, Rey was the only one (besides Poe) that Zori interacted with when meeting on Kijimi, and Poe and Rey were the only ones Zorii thought of after they flew away (TROS novel)
