DOCUMENTARY REVIEW: "I am not Your Negro"-James Baldwin...American writer, from New York, moved to Europe to escape segregation and came back to the states because he felt like he needed to be a part of the fight for civil rights. This film is powerful on so many levels. It really paints the picture of what our civil rights leaders really did. They were all so young. And Baldwin was the unsung hero, at the forefront, shining a light on racism with his intellect. The brilliance of this man was hidden from so many for far to long. And in this film, you get to really feel his experience. The film shows how black men in the US were strategically made to fit into a white ideal. Watch this. NETFLIX ORIGINAL'S REVIEW: "Michael Che Matters" - For those of you who aren't familiar with Michael, he's on SNL and also is the comedic relief during interviews when he's asked to do impersonations of Jay Z and Chris Rock. And yes, they are incredibly good. I've been seeing the billboard for Michael's special all throughout LA. And I kept telling myself, "yeah, I'll get to it." But it wasn't till I saw a clip of his special on Facebook, where he's speaking about the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement where I was like "ok, tonight's the night." The clip was so funny, so intelligent and was such a light way of explaining racism. His jokes are intelligent. They are not pro-black, pro-white, pro-gay, pro Latina, they are pro honesty. And he connects everything back to the fact that we are all human beings. I was pleasantly surprised by this special and we at #StayCoolProductions definitely think it's worth an hour out of your "lives" to take a look see. NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES REVIEW: The OA...hmmm. Where to begin? The series is interesting to say the least. For one to appreciate this show, they must be interested in energy, consciousness and where the soul goes while transitioning from life to death. We were excited to see that the lead actress, Brit Marling, wrote and created the show. So Brit, we are rooting for you! The actors are good and definitely committed to the silliness of the story line and the writing is creative, too. With that being said, we were waiting for something to happen throughout the entire first season. The show never really took off. Documentary Review: If you are a true hip hop fan, and when I say "True Hip Hop Fan", I'm not talking about someone who knows all the words to the latest Drake hit. I'm talking about someone that truly appreciates the culture and where it came from. A person that knows history. Then you know who Dj Stretch Armstrong and the Co-Host of his radio show, Bobbito, is. If you don't know who they are, and you still call yourself a true hip hop fan, slap yourself in the FACE! These two men (Bobbito on the right. Stretch on the left) started a college hip hop show in 1991, that featured the biggest up and coming, underground, unsigned artists of that time period. These men did their show for 10 years, cosigning rappers, that eventually ended making them millions of dollars. They featured artists like Busta Rhymes, Jay Z, Wu-Tang Clan and Nas before they even made a cent off of hip hop. And that's just to name a few. They are part of the reason why hip hop became so popular. Two twenty somethings, in New York fighting for a culture to be seen and heard. The documentary takes you down memory lane and you get to see verses done on the spot, jokes and appreciate icons thanking these men for putting them on. #Fences The first word that comes to mind in regards to this film is MASTERY. Everyone in this entire cast was incredible. Of course Denzel was amazing and him as a director was remarkable. Viola Davis will win an Oscar. If she doesn't, then she'd be robbed. But one of the biggest surprises was Mykelti Williamson (Bubba Gump). The second he walked on screen, you could feel him. Emotions immediately came up. The story line, if you're not familiar, is how a father that means well, tries to pass the limitations he went through onto his son.
