I don’t love the way some people write Megan in fanfiction

There’s this weird tendency to flatten her into “the dumb one,” and it often seems to trace back to her dyslexia or the fact that she’ll occasionally misspell a word in a Weverse DM. That’s such a bizarre leap to make. Dyslexia affects reading and spelling; it isn’t a measure of intelligence. Someone misspelling a word in an informal message isn’t evidence that they’re incapable of complex thought

It feels especially annoying because people would probably recognise how offensive this is in most other contexts. Yet when it’s a young woman in fandom, suddenly it’s treated as a harmless character trait to exaggerate for laughs. She becomes ditzy, incapable of following conversations, or someone who needs everything explained to her

Maybe calling it misogynistic feels like a strong word to some people, but reducing a woman to an infantilised stereotype because of a disability reflects broader biases. Whether people intend it or not, it’s belittling

I don’t think this is being “too woke.” It’s just asking people to stop confusing dyslexia with stupidity and to write women as actual people instead of one-note caricatures.

ngl meichae fics from megan's pov are starting to become a bit of an ick for me... not ALL of them, but the problem is such a recurring thing and i need to know if anyone else here feels me. i find yoonchae so boring, colorless, flavorless, dull in them 😭 she’s kinda Just There™ to be megan's love interest. they strip away so much of her autonomy/personality that if she shows even a little bit of agency or gets given more than two personality traits it's like a miracle

yoonchae is my bias which probably makes me more sensitive to it or whatever, but it genuinely annoys me to read these portrayals of her that feel sooo bland and reduced to the bare minimum of who she actually is

you’ve heard of moonchae and wavegan, but i personally think that moongan and wavechae could work too! let’s go.

yoonchae being pulled into megan’s orbit. there’s a pull to her, and yoonchae is just drawn in. something about her. almost magnetizing. she’s infectious, and people compare her to the sun. yoonchae can see this, too, can see why some might mistake her dazzling brightness for the brightest star the world has ever known.

megan changes around yoonchae. sure, she’s silly with her in public, and flirty, and all too unserious. but when she’s alone with yoonchae she confides in her, talks to her, lets yoonchae see the quiet side of herself, the self aware megan, the one who admits that she’s breaking down sometimes, the one who admits that she isn’t perfect. 

how could yoonchae not be drawn to this pull? this side of megan. she is beautiful loud, but she’s also beautiful quiet. too many people see her as the sun. not many consider her the moon. 

yoonchae sees megan. sees her when she’s quiet, sees her when she’s breaking, sees her when she slips on her bubbly outside persona. the pull is magnetic. 

megan is the moon, and yoonchae is the waves getting pulled into her orbit, not able to stay away for long against the shore, always, always finding herself drawn to the soft sliver in the sky.
