There's nothing sadder than a puppet without a ghost, especially the kind with red blood running through them.

What are some of ur favorite cinematography moments in wn?
Oh gosh, too many to name. Usually it's something where the scenery is beautiful and/or the symbolism is top notch, or the visual is just marvelous.
That's just some of the screens I have.
I have a particular soft spot for 106, where the natural beauty of the landscape was used to cinematic excellence. (All the scenes of Ava and Mary walking before they reach Ronda, and then obviously all the scenes in Ronda, the sunrise scene...) You just feel like you're being wooed as a viewer, you know? Like the beauty of the shot wasn't directly in service of anything in the story, it's just there because someone thought "this is beautiful" and I love that. Choosing to shoot this show in Spain was truly a galaxy brain thing that Simon Barry chose and I love that they make the utmost use of the natural beauty, the architecture, the churches etc.
I love the framing they do on this show too, I remember in 109 where Ava and Beatrice are descending into the catacombs there is a shot from far away where all the screen is black except for this spot of light where they are one after the other climbing down by rope and throwing stuff down. Excellent use of chiaroscuro (to use an expensive word). You see the same thing in 103 when Beatrice retreats into the shadow when she and Ava are talking side by side in the hallway. They actively play with shadow and light in ways that add a lot of depth (either symbolically or just spatially).
Then there's the way they use reflections occasionally. As you see below, the "Ecce Homo" statue doubled over Ava's face, which has high symbolic value for our bisexual Jesus. And then this one:
I love the scenes in churches, I love how a lot of shots make use of slanting light (and boy, there's a lot of slanting light in churches).
Would love to see them make use of stained glass windows at one point, though I imagine that's tricky. But it's just pretty, you know? It really adds so much to the sense that the people involved are professionals, they have a clear vision for the esthetic they want to pursue for this show, they know how to go about it, and they take it seriously. Incredible.
A character played by Rosalie Craig who doesn't make it to the end is kind of like a dead wife.
