happy valentine's day @stevethehairington I know you were probably hoping for something more Buddie centered, but I still haven't watched 9-1-1 so hopefully this is the best of both worlds! And I think it hits your "literally anything domestic" prompt lol
Major shoutout to @strawberryspence for helping me with all the 9-1-1/Buddie research! This fic would be terrible without her insight! And another special shoutout to @artbean for organzing this exchange for us!
āYouāre watching a show about firefighters?ā Steve balks.
Thatās a plot twist Steve didnāt see coming. If he had to guess what Eddieās been watching for weeks it would be something more⦠well, nerdy. Something like Game of Thrones or Dr. Who.
Firefighters, though? That seems a bit too mainstream for the dude who has no less than three versions of The Lord of the Rings books on his desk.
āItās called having hobbies,ā Eddie sasses, throwing Steveās own words back at him.
āFair point,ā Steve says sheepishly. This time, itās his cheeks that flush with embarrassment and regret. āJust one more question, and Iāll leave you alone.āĀ
Eddie groans but motions for Steve to continue.Ā
āWhat show is it?ā Steve asks, genuinely curious.Ā
ā9-1-1.āĀ
Or:
Desperate to befriend his roommate, Steve crashes Eddieās 9-1-1 binge-watching sessions and ends up with more than just a new favorite show.
Eddie nearly shits his pants when he's at his table in the woods selling to high school students and the Chief of Police shows up.
Eddie is ready to run but Hopper grabs him by the shoulder and...gives him money? He says, "You're not slick, kid. I know what you're doing out here. I'm buying."
"Buying what?"
Hopper raises an eyebrow and Eddie makes the smartest decision of his life to not reveal what else is in his lunchbox. He opens it a sliver and hands Hopper a baggie of weed.
Hopper hands him cash instead of arresting him and then just...leaves. Weird.
Eddie continues his day in the twilight zone because he later sees Hopper. With the weed. Handing it to Steve Harrington.
Steve keeps coming out as bisexual to the random girls Robin has a crush on.
Robin never acts on a crush and it drives Steve crazy because like. Yeah. Sometimes it's a straight girl so it's a crush that'll go nowhere and maybe don't tell them but sometimes she's crushing on a(n obviously) queer woman and -
"You don't know that," Robin insists. "You're just assuming and what if you're wrong? I go talk to her and implode my life?"
"I'm not wrong though," Steve shrugs. "Go ask her out."
"You can't know for sure."
So, Steve figured it out. For sure.
By coming out and seeing how these (could not be any more) queer women take handle it and you know what?
Steddie where Steve's dad hears about his son's weird codependent friendship with Al Munson's boy and thinks the two of them have been fooling around in secret. The man gets pissed.
He drives back home and demands Steve break things off with the Munson kid.
Steve gets pissed.
"I'm not gonna break things off, I love him!!" Steve yells before he stomps out through the door and drives away without looking back.
A few minutes later he's at the Munson's. Steve doesn't even bother with knocking, Wayne's more than used to his presence by now, so he just opens the door and go straight to Eddie's room.
"My dad thinks we are dating and demanded that I break things off with you, but I refused and told him I loved you. Do you wanna date me just to piss him off?"
Eddie, who had been stuffing his face with chips as he read some comics in his bed, shrugs. "Do I get to touch your tits?"
"They are not tits!"
"Do I get to touch them anyway?"
"I guess that's reasonable dating behavior, so yes."
"Okay." Eddie puts down the comic book and wipes his hands on his pants. "Now take off your shirt and come here."
Everyone thinks Steve is taking home economics as one of his electives because it's an easy grade and you're surrounded by girls. Meanwhile, Steve is sitting front row like, "Please teach me how to hem my pants. Please."
The girls in home ec realize pretty quickly that Steve is not there to flirt with them and that he already knows how to balance a checkbook.
They'll be damned if a boy - a dumb jock boy at that - is better than them at household management and have made the collective decision to best him in every lesson.
This is great.
Steve isn't the best student and he has a hard time focusing since his last head injury, but nothing sharpens the mind like competition.
Steve is competitive as hell and he's going to line the inner pockets of the apron he's sewing with a funky pattern fabric. Beat that, Valarie.
This results in fourth period home ec outclassing every other period.
Every year, the home ec teacher picks a few exceptional students to help mend and tailor costumes for the school play.
Steve's sewing is passable - he got a good grade on his apron - but not the best so he's not expecting to be selected.
But he is.
His teacher informs him that Eddie Munson is in the school play and none of the girls want to work with him. So Eddie is Steve's project.
Eddie wishes someone would've mentioned that to him. He is not prepared to see Steve Harrington in the drama room, nor is he - in any way - prepared to watch Steve sink to his knees in front of him.
He must've died.
Steve tugs at the waistband of his pants and Eddie accepts that maybe heaven is a magical place...and then he is stabbed with a pin.
Steve is staring. He feels like heās always staring, these days. Like his eyes have betrayed him and have decided to make his stupid, annoying crush on the weirdest guy he knows painfully obvious.
Itās just that stupid guitar pick necklace.
He knows itās cheap, has seen the way it leaves behind little green trails on Eddieās neck if he forgets to take it off at night.
āYouāre staring,ā Robin says, chewing on a twizler she didnāt pay for. Eddie is perusing the horror section, again, probably gearing up to remind them of how dismal it is. Heās bent over at the waist, oversized shirt gaping at the neck, necklace spilling out to tangle with curly hair.
Does nickel taste good? Steve thinks it must.
He gives a non-commit grunt, not bothering to look her way. Theyāve been over this too many times for him to try to deny it. Heās staring. He will continue to stare. His eyes might just fall out of his head.
Eddie walks up, the necklace tangled up, tugging at the left side of his neck, pulling the flesh tight, the bright red pick resting on his right shoulder. Will it leave a bruise? A little hickey for Steve to be jealous of?
āBlasphemy! A year and a half and still, no copy of The Evil Dead. I will be having words with Keith,ā Eddie rants, arms flailing wildly.
Robin and Eddie go on and on, debating what makes a good movie for the millionth time. Their voices wade in and out, lost to Steveās staring.
Iām going to get my hands on that necklace someday, I swear to God. I'll trade it for a ring if I have to.
nancy and steve talking while they wait for robin to show up to like movie night or something. nancy casually drops "yeah i wish robin was a boy so we could date lol" and before steve has time to unpack that, robin arrives
Steve is curled up in the center of his bed, pillow clutched tightly to his chest. Today all of the six and seventh graders gathered to watch the eighth grade talent show. Most of the acts sucked, but one stuck out to Steve.
There was a boy playing with his band, Steve doesnāt remember their name, but he remembers watching this kid play his guitar. It was like he was the only person in the entire universe. He kept whipping and shaking his head. Steve is sure that if his hair wasnāt buzzed, itād be wild and big.
He knows the kid gets picked on, itās because he stands out. But he doesnāt seem sorry for standing out, he wears it like a badge of honor. It makes Steveās cheeks burn with jealousy.
Theyāre burning now just thinking about it, so he pushes his face into the pillow heās holding. Steve has never felt like this about anyone in his life. He knows itās not possible though, because the kid on stage was a boy, and Steve is a boy. Heās supposed to like girls.
But as he lays awake in his room, late in the night, he thinks about holding that boys hand. He thinks about touching his buzzed hair. He thinks about standing in the boys space.
Even worse, he thinks about taking up space. He thinks about meeting the boys family, he wonders if he has any siblings. He thinks about meeting his friends. He thinks about going to the movies, and secretly holding his hand in the dark.
But, of course, none of this happens. Steve canāt like boys.
Instead, he loses his virginity as a freshman at an upperclassmanās party. He gets popular. He gets a reputation. He gets girls.
He doesnāt get Eddie āThe Freakā Munson because heās King Steve āThe Hairā Harrington.
(That is, until they save the world together and Steve has to breathe life back into Eddies lungs)

Prompt #17 - Answering Machine | Word Count: 1000 | Rating: M | CW: Talk of Sex | POV: Steve | Pairing: Steddie | Tags: Post S4, They're Sick, and What If It's Demorabies?, Silly Fluff, Getting Together, Idiot4Idiot
Steve feels like death. His face feels hot, burning up, but he can't seem to get out of bed to do anything about it. He's naked, no covers anywhere to be found, and he can't seem to care one fucking iota.
The phone keeps ringing, but he's not sure he can even pick up his arm to answer it. The machine will get it. When it clicks over, he hears Eddie's voice echoing from the speaker, "Steve? Steve? Are you there? I think I'm dying."
Well, that makes two of them. Then, Eddie asks:
"Do you think Robin was right about the rabies?"
Well, fuck. Steve hadn't thought about that. He summons all the strength he has, and reaches for the phone, cutting off the answering machine.
Yanking it to his ear, mumbling into the receiver, "If we have demorabies I'm gonna be so mad."
And the noise Eddie makes means he clearly agrees.
It takes Eddie an hour to make what should have been a fifteen minute drive, tops. He's sweaty, face red, when he comes into Steve's bedroom.
"Oh, naked, yes," Eddie says, and starts stripping off his own clothes, before flopping down on the bed next to Steve. He's radiating heat, and Steve leans over and switches the fan beside his bed up to high, even if that makes it rattle.
"Who are we gonna bite first?" Eddie asks, and Steve laughs.
They finally call Robin and demand that she take them to the hospital. Only, Robin still can't drive, so Nancy is the one that is fucking this monkey. Bossing them around, yelling at them for being naked as Robin keeps demanding answers to questions Steve doesn't fully understand.Ā
How long have they been doing what?Ā
Dying?
For a few days. Clearly.
But Nancy's still forcing them to get up out of bed while Robin screeches.
Everything hurts.
Steve can't do this. He can't walk. He'll just die in bed. It's fine.Ā
But no, she's being mean and making him get up.
She's making him put on clothes.
And the fabric feels suffocating against his skin, and he wants to give up and lay back down. Death is fine. He's ready to go. But she won't let him.
He's definitely biting her first.
Steve wakes up, and feels better. Not great. But better. He's hooked up to an IV and Eddie is in the hospital bed next to his. Hey, Eddie's here. His memory is fuzzy. He doesn't remember how he got here. He doesn't even remember being with Eddie.Ā
"Well, look who's finally awake," Robin says, and Steve searches the room for her. His throat feels dry. He needs a drink.
"Do I have rabies?" Steve asks, voice scratchy, and Robin gives him a look like he's an idiot, getting up and holding up the pink mug with the bendy straw. He slurps down the water, and it's the best thing he's ever tasted.
"You have the flu. The man flu. I know. So much worse than the regular flu," Robin chides, and Steve can't even fight with her. He's too sick.
"Not rabies?" Eddie asks, voice just as scratchy. He gets his own turn with the ice water.
"Not rabies," Robin confirms. "You dumbasses really thought you had rabies?"
"You said we did!" Eddie shouts, voice echoing in the hospital room.
"Under duress! In the Upside Down! Months ago!" Robin argues back, and Steve's head is pounding far too much for this. To listen to them fighting.
"Stop," Steve begs, holding his head. It's killing him.
"They gave you fluids, you idiots were both dehydrated," Robin says, and Steve nods. It has helped. He only feels like death warmed over instead of fully dead. It's an improvement, however slight.
"From all the fucking," she adds, lowering her voice, clearly disgusted.
Steve furrows his brow, "From all the what?"
Robin waves her hands around, exasperated. "The fucking!"
"What fucking?" Eddie asks, tracking her movement with his eyes.
"What fucking?" she mocks, then she sounds hurt, "I don't know why you didn't tell me."
Steve holds up his hands, "Rob. Tell you what?"
"That you'd gotten together," she says quietly, as if she has just realized again that they're in public.Ā
"Us?!" Eddie asks, waving his hand between himself and Steve.
She puts her hands on her hips, and Steve smiles. It's like looking in a mirror.
"Yes, you!"
"Why would you think that?" Steve asks.
"Why would I think that? You were both naked in bed together. I'm traumatized, by the way. I had to see two dicks, and one of them belonged to you!" she accuses, pointing at Steve.
"You'd rather see Eddie's dick?"Ā
"Yes!" she shouts, and then corrects, "No! I mean, I don't want to see either of them! But seeing his is better than yoursā"
"āgee, thanks," Steve mutters.
"My dick is better than yours, Harrington," Eddie crows from the other bed. Not helping. He's never helping.
"You know what I mean!" she says, getting even more wound up.
Then she takes a deep breath, looking between them, "I just don't know why you didn't tell me. You're my best friend."
"Robin," Steve says, "there was nothing to tell. I swear."
"You were naked. Together," she repeats, and she can keep saying that all she wants, it doesn't mean he's gonna remember.
He glances over at Eddie, "Did we fuck?"
Eddie shrugs his shoulders up towards his ears, "I don't know." Then, after a pause: "You wanna?"
"Eddie," Robin chastises.Ā
"Maybe," Steve says, "I heard your dick's so nice Robin wanted to see it."
"I did not!" she interjects. "I'm gonna have the doctor pull the plug on both of you if you don't stop."
"Robin," Steve says, "Do you think Eddie and I should fuck?"
She spins around, hands waving, "Well, duh! You've been dancing around it for months. I just didn't expect to be out of the loop when you figured it out!"
News to Steve.
Good news, definitely.
