Sooo it turns out we've got a honey bee hive on our property!!! They had made a home high up in a pine tree and we've tried to exterminate them several times thinking they were wasps (I know, we feel terrible about that now!) But they must have continued to thrive, because they're now outgrowing the tree! A couple days ago the bees began swarming (usually about a third or half the hive) and are gathering here around the queen bee until their scouts find a new home for them! (I called someone and a local beekeeper is going to come and get them soon ☺️) Before she leaves the hive, the queen lays new female bee eggs and whichever one emerges first becomes the new queen and will build back up the original hive in the tree! I don't usually get excited about these kinds of things but I'm totally geeking out! Nature is so fascinating and it's so fun to know we've been hosting such a valuable creature for the ecosystem right here in our backyard!! 😍 I feel like this is an appropriate tribute for Saint Patrick's Day—in honor of a saint who spent lots of time outdoors appreciating God's creation. Here's a portion of his "breastplate prayer" (that also includes his famous "Christ before me" phrase) "I arise today through the strength of heaven, the light of the Sun, the radiance of the Moon, the splendor of fire, the speed of lightning, the swiftness of wind, the depth of the sea, the stability of the earth, the firmness of rock... I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness, of the Creator of creation." We have such a full heart after getting to dedicate our Addie girl at church today surrounded by our closest friends and family. After a very busy and exhausting month, we decided to get away for a long weekend at a lovely cabin in the mountains for some much needed rest and relaxation—and also as a belated celebration of my 33rd birthday!!! 💓 A very big thanks and shout out to our friends @david_cho88 and @salla.cho for making our stay extra special as their first Airbnb guests.
