Finally FINAL
This will be my last blog post of the semester (I wrote this while waiting for the video to upload on Vimeo). I am happy and glad to finally finished my 3 years BA in Digital Design journey. I enjoy the journey with its ups and downs. It feels like a rollercoaster ride because time flies so fast.
The last semester is the hardest semester for me. It is not because the modules, but it is more because of the pressure to finish it on time without someone who can teach me how. I choose to make something that is enjoyable and personal to me.
Donkey and Pluto is my final work that I did on this semester. I take this project personal and wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I choose to *literally* draw and screen record it rather than making it in adobe illustrator. It is completely different with my usual animation style, but every single thing that I did on my 3 years journey always come back to why I want to take graphic design as my forte.
I choose graphic design as my job because I do love sketching and I do love drawing by hand. I love hand drawing because it’s always original, raw, and beautiful. I also love to do cute 2D digital illustration, but still, it always started with a paper and pencil/drawing pen.
Special thanks to Jesus Christ who make the impossibles to I’m possibles. Another special thanks to my family back home who always love and supports me unconditionally. Thank you to Nael for the companionship during my foundation year until now. And thank you for my best friends, my GDD friends, and my housemates here in Malaysia.
I also want to say thank you to Miss Nita who made me love to do animation. If I never meet a lecturer like her, I am sure that I will get very frustrated this semester. Last but not least, thank you to Mr. Jarrad who always come on time for teaching visit and make everything clear to us, so that we know what to do.
Thank you Curtin University Australia for this opportunity and learning experience :)
Love,
Stela Kristina
The final elements for Donkey and Pluto
Sketching The Storyboard Although I am not using this kind of storyboard, but I still use the elements in it.
Project 2 - Concept
This is my first concept for Donkey and Pluto, I got confused in the middle, so I changed and then changed again and settled down with the "draw my life" concept.

The song track that I will use for Donkey and Pluto is Count On Me by Bruno Mars, because I always treated Donkey and Pluto as my friends and I love them so much.

This is my first trial drawing with my wacom tablet on Photoshop and I screen recorded it :)
Mid-Project Self Reflection
I am always completely honest with everything that I do in every project, this time I really need to write it down and pour my heart out. This semester has been a tough semester for me, especially for these two modules: Advanced Animation and Animation and Game Texture Design (visit my blog about this module here.)
I do really like the freedom that I get this semester for Advanced Animation, but I really need the guidance from a lecturer/tutor who is willing to help when we do not understand something. I know we have YouTube tutorial videos, but you cannot treat them the same as the knowledge and on-the-spot teaching while we come to class that you get from an expert (in this case your lecturer/tutor).
Every story has two sides. The up and down. The up or good part of this semester is, definitely, we got the chance to be independent. I hope I can finish the rest of the projects more light-hearted and happy because it is not the module that I don't like, but the fact that the learning situation is not as helpful as I would like it to be. But it is okay, it is just another part of my growing process :)

Another -we can call it- art style that inspired me to continue and move on doing this project. It’s by recording my drawing :) I think this will be a good idea, since there are quite a lot of people who said that I am pretty good at drawing. So I think, why don’t I give it a try?

Origami Art Style
Here is an example of origami art style. It is simple and cute at the same time. I will use this kind of art style for my second project instead of shell shading character that I love. To created this kind of paper folding or origami art style we need to basically use a lighter color for 1/2 side of the surface and darker color for the other 1/2. Let’s try it!

ARE YOU IN // OR // OUT ?
This kind of comparison video will be my concept for my second project. I realise that I never really like a story-like storyline *if that make sense*. If you guys watched my previous works you will know what I mean by not a story-like storyline. It took me some time to realise that, but now I am sure what to do next :D

A Flat Animation - by DimC
This animation inspired me to move on from my confusion. The flat animation looks simple and cute, but at the same time it is interesting to watch.

In Confusion
I made a concept already for my second project, BUT I am not sure should I go with it or change the whole thing. I do like the concept that I created when Jarrad came here to Malaysia, but I am not sure should I or shouldn’t I go with it. Or maybe should I just change the storyline only? I really don’t know.. :(
Project 1 - Ai Working Screen Shot
We can see that I made the pearl with different style comparing to the rest of the objects. The second thing with more pop colors is the mermaid. I want to make both the pearl and the mermaid stand out by doing these things.
