Oh. [frowns slightly at the voice, but takes time before looking down to find a man] Are you okay?
Without a second thought, Jan threw her cigarette on the ground and stretched herself out on the bench. The sun felt good on her skin but moving her body was tougher than she thought. Her movements were slow and painful for no reason. She rolled her eyes at the blonde girl and scoffed, “which is crazy. Duh.”
"That could cause a fire, you know." Stella informed in that hushed tone of hers as she eyed the lit cigarette disdainfully. "It is not crazy. It comforts me." She did not feel the need to explain herself and did not want an argument. This girl reminded her of ones she grew up with, the pretty confident ones that always bossed her around and made her feel like less.
Layla didn’t usually walk around the gardens in Queen Myrcella’s castle. She liked the outdoors, sure, but she’d always been more inclined to roam without limits - the opposite of what she could do here. It almost seemed cruel how it faked to be freedom when it was anything but. So in a declaration of rebellion, Layla didn’t step foot outside. Until she was pushed out the door by the staff, that is. With claims of ‘you’re getting too pale’ and ‘this is unhealthy’ she’d been forced to spend the day in the grass and under the trees. It was distasteful, at best. So when she heard someone tenderly whispering to a spot in the ground, Layla couldn’t help but scoff. “The doctors will think you’re mad if you keep talking to the ground,” she said “well, more than they already do.”
Heaving a long sigh, Stella looked up to see a girl who rang familiar. "I'm perfectly sane." She grit out sounding less assured than intended. "It's a fact that talking to plants is good for them." Stella wanted to sound confident, but her soft-spoken words just sounded meek and perturbed. "Have you ever tried it?"
"It’s not my place either. I would only stay if you wanted me too, not because you think.. if you’re alright being here alone, I can go."
"You can stay. I don't mind company."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett gnawed at her lower lip, clenching her eyes shut when Stella lashed out as much as Stella De Luca could lash out: "Okay. I'll let you go, then. Call me if you need me."
Stella felt panic rise: "No."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett shook her head though Stella couldn't see it, sucking in a deep breath to calm herself down: "I should've been there for you, that's all I can say."
Stella sighed, rubbing her eyes as the felt suddenly tired: "I said I was fine and I meant it. I just - I don't even know why I called you."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett covered her eyes with her hand, as if to dam the tears from falling: "No, it wasn't. I fucked up. I should've taken you back as soon as I could. At least then you'd be with me. At least you wouldn't forget about me. I'm so sorry, Stell. I'm so fucking sorry."
Stella narrowed her eyes, her lips turning into an impossibly thin line as she tried to find words to say rather than stand there picking at her nails and feeling awkward: "My life was fine, Scarlett. There is nothing to apologise for..."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett whimpered softly when Stella spoke: "Don't tell me it wasn't a happy life. Don't tell me that I fucked up even more."
Stella pressed her lips together, the whimper getting to her: "I was fine, Scarlett. It was okay."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett didn't want to relive it. But she knew that if Stella was ever going to believe her, she had to: "Our father left before you were born. Mom liked alcohol. She didn't ever work, really. I was the one that paid the bills. When I was fifteen, she didn't come home after one of her excursions. You were six. I managed to raise you just fine on my own for two years before some bitch orphanage manager took you away with proof of child abuse, which was completely false. I was seventeen, so I wasn't old enough to get you back. So I waited. And I saved money. But then I saw how happy you were in the orphanage and I couldn't promise a happy life in a shitty apartment, so I... I didn't do anything. I checked up on you every week. I would lose my mind whenever you came into the diner. And then I bumped into you at the grocery store. And that's the story."
Stella remained silent for stretched out minutes in a pregnant pause. When she finally spoke, her voice sounded hollow and odd to her own ears: "Yeah. Happy life."
CALLING || SCARLETT DE LUCA
Scarlett clenched her teeth, running a hand through her hair to get it out of her face: "I can tell you the story?"
Stella remained silent, not knowing what to say. It was her way of saying continue.

Scarlett winced at the sound of Stella's voice on the other end of the line, the pain apparent in it: "We do have similar features," she reasoned.
Stella let out a low, shaky exhale: "I can't have a sister that I don't know and have never heard of. I /can't/."

Scarlett picked up the phone, not bothering to look at who was calling: Hello?
Stella hated the was her voice wavered when she spoke: "Someone told me we looked alike yesterday."

Stella waited for the ringtone to die and a voice to answer, but it seemed like eons as seconds ticked by and each ring felt longer than the last one.
She’d lit the cigarette but hadn’t inhaled it. It had burnt itself almost to the bud but January couldn’t find herself to move her arm or any part of her body. She blinked and continue to watch the smoke drift off into the air. The breeze was nice, at least. Her eyes felt heavy and for a moment she’d thought the voice that whispered with the win was in her own head. With all her effort, she turned her head and looked at the blonde hair kneeling into the flowers. “What are you talking about, crazy?”
Stella jumped slightly at the voice. This was twice now that she'd assumed she as alone only to be mistaken. Was there no solitude here? Her eyebrows came to knit together in the center of her forehead, suspicion evident in her blue irises as they turned pensive. "I'm not crazy." Her vioce came out soft, uncertain. "I was talking to the plants."
