"Don't touch me."
Stella didnt mind it; not the guard or the current situation that kept her more or less trapped without truly being free. It was all she knew so what was there to hate? She wasn’t the typical quiet girl who liked to read. No, Stella favoured nature. The gardens were beautiful and she she found herself spending time caressing flowers and speaking to leaves. “You are going to be beautiful.” The blonde whispered to a flower in its first stages of bloom. “Absolutely beautiful.”
Layla didn't usually walk around the gardens in Queen Myrcella's castle. She liked the outdoors, sure, but she'd always been more inclined to roam without limits - the opposite of what she could do here. It almost seemed cruel how it faked to be freedom when it was anything but. So in a declaration of rebellion, Layla didn't step foot outside. Until she was pushed out the door by the staff, that is. With claims of 'you're getting too pale' and 'this is unhealthy' she'd been forced to spend the day in the grass and under the trees. It was distasteful, at best. So when she heard someone tenderly whispering to a spot in the ground, Layla couldn't help but scoff. "The doctors will think you're mad if you keep talking to the ground," she said "well, more than they already do."
“Go away.”
"Aw...am I interrupting your beauty sleep?"
Something — someone — grabbed his attention from the upper floor. Suddenly changing directions caused one of his guards to throw an exasperated sigh in the air, but Daniel ignored him. Leaning against the railing, his voice rang loudly in the air as he called out, “You’re going to hurt yourself.”
Layla had to stifle a groan. While her older brother's company was a welcome one, she doubted he'd completely approve of what she was doing - sitting on a railing - and didn't really feel like getting scolded. Besides, it felt good to just breathe the chilly air, dangling her legs, the possibility of falling into the dark night always present. It was fun. "Not unless I throw myself down."
20 minute naps are the optimum right? To get you more awake and to have more energy? I heard that the amount of time is important.
Now the real question is, what kind of person has the willpower to get up after only twenty minutes of rest?
"I’d like to meet Luke," she responded with a grin. "Oh, and I was meaning to ask. Did you get my letter and present? I couldn’t find the things you registered for, so I sort of had to wing it." How informal of Alice. It felt weird talking to her sister—as if she were an old friend rather than blood. At least when they had been at each other’s throats as children there was some emotion and passion there. Now this felt like an obligation. As if they were on separate planets. Alice hoped they could fix that.
"I got them." Layla didn't mention how she didn't touch her presents and letters until she was far along in her pregnancy. How she couldn't find the strength or motivation to do anything for a long time. It was too dark of a phase in her life to talk about it now, the first time the sisters had seen each other in years. "I loved both. You know, the letter and the gift. Both made me really happy." Layla smiled. That much was honest. And even though Alice had sent them from somewhere far from the palace, they reminded Layla of home - in the best way possible.
"Your loss, hot sauce. Everyone being jammed up in this place like sardines, sooner or later free seats are going to be a thing of the past. But I’ll try not to take too much offense."
"Even more of a reason to save up this seat, don't you think? I'll have the power to make the others beg for a place to rest. Their lives - well, comfort - all depend on me."
You do that Sleeping Beauty.
Sleeping Beau - you. I know who you are! Who else would give everybody awesome fairy tale nicknames?
It's been a while, Boyle.
"Very silly Layla."
"Because I wanted to see you. Duh."
"Thanks, Nico. I'd say it wasn't necessary but...well, it's a rough time. I want you to enjoy your stay, though! It's too much of a long trip to let it go to waste."
"You said you missed me in your letters so don’t go backing out now."
"I said that? Ugh, that means I'll have to deal with the consequences. Stupid me."
"How come you're here? Never thought coronations were your thing."
Umpa Lumpa.
Okay then...I'm just gonna, you know, grab my cookie and go.
"I’m not talking about just you, Layla!" Alice exclaimed, letting out an exasperated sigh. There was a headache appearing now and she wanted it to go away. She had dealt with worse things than this and Alice didn’t want to revert to how it had been in their childhood. They weren’t oil and water anymore. They were past that. And thankfully, Layla agreed with that too. "I am a doctor," Alice said after a moment of silence, smiling at her sister just as well. "Surgeon, actually. A surgeon in cardiothoracic medicine, which is for the heart," she explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I came back for the coronation and for…well, I got a fellowship at the hospital in King’s Landing. So it looks like I’m here to stay for a little while."
As Layla listened to her sister's words, she had few comments. It was strange to hear how far Alice had gone - but in a good way. How long had it been since she'd known anything about the younger's life? It seemed like an eternity had passed since then. And in a way it had. Layla had gotten married, started travelling, had a child - all during the time Alice was gone. She was sure Alice had used her time wisely, too. It was almost like they were from different worlds...but maybe they could build a bridge. "You have to meet Luke."
Adorable as always. What sort of mischief have you been up to these days little Princess.
You are...?
"You? I don't know..."
"Just sit down, Nico."
That’s what you get for getting coffee at this time of the day I suppose.
I came for a cookie, actually. Not coffee.
...Which doesn't actually matter, so whatever.
"Unless I mean, you want to sit in my lap, you’re more than welcome."
"Well, your lap does look comfortable...but I'll have to reject the offer. Maybe next time!"
"Are we allowed to add one more?"
"Depends on the person we're adding."
