Trial [START]
Trial [START]
Once again, the students reluctantly and exhaustedly gathered around the fountain of the park. The last time they did this, their numbers were three greater. And now, each student entered knowing full-well that, by the time they left, their numbers would be even fewer than when they arrived.
“What a hussle I saw from you kids today. What could have given you all this much energy after days without food, I wonder? I’ll never know where you kids get all your enthusiasm from, but if I could find some way to harmess it, I’d never have to pay bills again!”
“Anyways, enough of this wise old geezer running his mouth! You bastards should know the drill, you’ve only got a limited time to figure out whodunit, better get a move on!”
Investigation [END]
“Ding ding ding ding! Time’s up! No lunch breaks, if you skipped breakfast to look around, no time to grab anything now! Whatever you found for clues is whatever you get, you entitled kids!”
“Better hope you put enough effort in to find what you need, Unkie Kuma can only do a good job if you do a good job. And if I don’t do a good job, you’ll all be living off bread and water!”
“You should all know the drill by now! Get your lazy hindquarters over to park, on the double!”

Cut-Off
The groups had split up to search for clues leading to the culprit behind Haruna’s death. This wasn’t just some nameless, faceless nobody, like last time. This was their friend. This was someone many of the students had spoken to in recent days– or even perhaps hours before her demise.
But, it seemed, their perils were far from over. Even as they investigated one death, the horrors of today had only just begun. It was in the apartments- the places you’d all been sleeping in, that had become synonimous with the hellish condition you’d all been thrust in, and yet were perhaps a place of safety, knowing your rooms were there, that you could rest there and relax for a while- it was from there that you heard it. Another scream, cutting through the focus of the investigations like an avalanche tearing open its path down a mountain, uncaring of obstacles and people alike; and then a voice, calling you over, hoarse and shocked, yet audible. A voice telling you to come quickly, that something had happened, something horrible; from right before the apartments’ entrance, a female voice called, for someone, anyone, to arrive, to please come there…! The voice was, as you’d surely notice upon arriving, Megumi Hirase’s, that of the SHSL Candle Maker who you had known as mature, elegant, maybe even a little haughty; and yet now there she stood, clearly shaken- as a matter of fact, shaking; standing before the front doors leading to the lobby. And yet, just by looking at that scene, nothing seemed wrong- there was just a woman, pale as a sheet, . As your approached, she breathed in, and opened the doors, and led everyone in, and advanced, beyond the mail room, where you could see the wall hiding the staircase up to the second floor. It was there that Megumi stopped, and simply pointed at you to go forwards, saying:
“She’s… She’s over there… Oh god… I… She… She just… I didn’t…”
Broken sentences, shocked words- and with this augury you moved onwards, and what greeted you there, on the stairs before the cafeteria…

Static Shock
In the frenzied grab for clues, the chaos overwhelms one. The rush of colors and students, the stench of sweat and anxiety and fear. In this solemn, deathly silence one can’t help but feel a ringing in one’s ears building, reverberating like a painful building of a microphone, recieving feedback from speakers.
Ringing to yelling to screeching.
Until a scream.
A very human, blood curdling scream.
On Dirait que la Chance de Quelqu'un a Manqué | Stella | Body Reaction
When Stella hears the shriek, her head snaps toward the direction of the noise. For a beat, freezing as Hideo runs past her, Stella wonders what it could be…But the body announcement that follows makes what’s going on clear.
Walking up behind the others who are already there, Stella lingers behind them. It looks like they’ll be busy for the next few hours. Staring down at the body Stella sighs.
“La chance ne veut rien dire.”
Chapter 3 Investigation [START]
Players may now post reactions, begin investigation threads, and prepare for the upcoming trial. Our trial is anticipated to start on July 4th! Be aware that it may begin later in the evening than usual.

SUBJECT: MURDER

No sooner had the students begun to take the scene before them in than the bear himself sluggishly waddled up the stairs to the scene, readjusting his disheveled composure.
“…whew… whew… just a moment kids, let Unkie Kuma… eugh…catch his breath. Hey, don’t give me that look! When you get… to my age, everything hurts! Especially… whew… your bank account. You all were bleeding me dry… without any muuurder. But, now those baby steps are done and over with, back to business…”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d be fuming that one of my employees would so carelessly nap on the job! But you see, I’m a bear of discriminating sight. This here student is obviously bloody- bloody murdered, and carefully arranged to look like she’d be in a rather dignified rest. Sorry, chump, but you can’t fool me; this one here’s been murdered! Everyone, give a big round of applause to our mystery culprit, willing to get down and dirty for the benefit of the company. A few more days and I think you would’ve all be in some big trouble, upupupu! At least one of you had a little bit of sense left in that entitled head.”
“But I stick to my bearings. Your food will be right back where it belongs- in those hungry little tummies, and the AC should kick back in aaaaany minute if those workers know what’s good for ‘em! You wouldn’t believe the funding those few days saved us. Cutting costs, skipping corners, and pinching those pennies will be great in the long run. We’re like a real fortune 500 company now! I hope you all learned a thing or two about cutthroat business today!”
“Now, from that last messy encounter, you kids should know the protocol. Get to diggin’ for those clues! You’ve got a few hours to look around before our next mandatory meeting in the park! Get a move on! Time is money!”
Stairway to Heaven
The scorching drought hitting the city like an endless heatwave comes another dawn at full swing. Barely after 6 am, the dog days broiling Jokiku go on, without the relief of a cool breeze, or a meager bite to eat. The more time that passes, the more dangerous this all seems to get, but no one is dead yet. That has to count for something. These students had made a pact, it seemed, after witnessing the execution of Yeichi: They would do whatever it took to keep everyone alive. They would fix their burned bridges and make an attempt to work together for their survival. At least, that was what most of them believed.
Everyone is coming out of their rooms at their own pace, no one really wanting to face another exhausting day.
Yoshiko is no different as she leaves her room feeling lethargic and overheated. The hunger pains still couldn’t be fully ignored, no matter how hard she tried. She may as well go upstairs to do some laundry, as a way to keep her mind off of the constant discomfort. It’s as she’s walking towards door to the laundry room that something catches her eye– something that seems out of place.
There’s a form at the bottom of the stairs. Perhaps someone fell asleep from exhaustion.
But this person isn’t moving. And…is that blood?

Fall from Grace
The excitement of the talent tour fizzling off into the heat of the night, the fervor and anticipation settles like a simmering stew, the smog and heat bubbling over the quiet streets of the city. Hunger and madness broil, and yet despite the cooking tensions, there is nothing for the students to eat.
Disappointment and stress drift off with sleep into the twilight for most, and simmer in restlessness for others. A single thought bubbles to the surface to even those who try to choke it back in denial. There’s one thing that’s certain:
This can’t last forever.
The drifting night slowly, and painfully, takes its time to burn off the charcoal sky to a burning morning.
Hazy, and hot.
Chapter 3 [START]
That’s right! We didn’t have a murder, so we’re going to jump right into chapter 3 motive time! There will be 5 allotted in-game days before the next event. We are currently hoping to see some volunteers for the next murder, but if no one comes forward for this motive, we will start to randomize and recruit murder planners instead.
The next event will take place on 06/30.
Also, Be Careful What You Don’t Wish For
The students, with a cold dread building up in their guts, began to make their way to the requested location. It couldn’t be, could it? Was the bear summoning them to investigate another murder…? But, surely after seeing that first attempt, no one would give in to temptation…
Awaiting them outside was an impatient bear, stamping its foot on the ground as it watched the students with a critical eye.
”You bastards aaaaalmost gave in to my generous, once-in-a-lifetime offer, but I have the feeling after that little failure from the other day, no one else is gonna take the oh-so-tempting bait for this little experiment. None of you have ever heard about climbing the corporate ladder? The cutthroat industries of fulltime employment? Not a single one of you thought to target the injured kid or the attempted murderer and have a perfect frame job on your hands? Poor work ethic, I tell you…back in my day, it was a dog-eat-dog kind of world, and we were only ever in it for ourselves. But, the offer’s expired now, so you get nothing! You have a lot to learn, here…”
”But, I guess bribes won’t get through to you all that easily, live and learn. So, it’s time to go back to the tried-and-true method of getting through to you lazy kids. Threats!”
“After that generous bonus I gave you earlier, and with how many of you bastards are still alive, money’s gonna start getting tight again. I need to cut the budget somewhere. In the food department, and in the electrical department, more specifically. Hope you bastards enjoyed your most recent meals and that nice air conditioning that was provided to you, because all of that is going kaput until at least one or two of you kicks the bucket! That’s right, no food, and it’s gonna start to get good and warm in here for a while. You’ll still have water, I’m not completely heartless, after all. I just want you all to know how disappointed I am that none of you had the initiative to take such a good opportunity while it was on the table. Oh well! Better get to work!”
“We were going to have this whole new area open up to explore, but with all these budget cuts, we just can’t do it. Maybe next time, upupu!”
Be Careful What You Wish For
-Morning of 4th day, describe city
-Ominous descriptions of the quiet
-Describe the blood that has only barely been cleaned from the train station
-No murder
-Angry kuma waking them up with an announcement
The most recent motive had been hanging in the air for a few days, tempting the kidnapped students with promises of freedom, healing, or anything else their hearts may desire. Some even came close to giving in to such a motive, much to the horror of their fellow classmates.
Following that incident, everyone was left wondering just who would be tempted next– who would give in? Certainly, no one would be so selfish…
The city was quiet for its earliest hours of the morning. 7AM only saw a handful of students up and about for their daily routines, but a great deal many more were still fitfully sleeping, awaiting the worst. The memories– and blood stains– from the incident at the railcar station had not yet been fully erased.
But, for now, everything was quiet.
That is, until the students were suddenly forced awake by the incessant buzzing of their PDAs and the grating voice of Karoshi-kuma.
“Wakey wakey, you bastards! Still don’t have the work ethic to be up at a reasonable hour, I see. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll get your sorry rumps up and at ‘em and meet me out front of the Apartment Building. Chop chop, I’m not getting any younger, here!”
Chapter 2 Event: Some Things Can’t Be Fixed
Once Héloïse left the scene, it was only Matsukaze left breathing heavily on the floor, with blood all over their mask, scarf, and the front of their shirt. Their eyes turned on the rest of you, bleary with tears and terror, and their chest heaved once more before they pushed themself up. A strangled cry of panic escaped them and they started to try and run, stumbling.
They’re moving slow enough, despite their best efforts, that someone could probably stop them pretty easily.
And stop them someone did– more specifically, Karoshi-kuma stepped in their path. His glasses glimmering in the light of the station and a purely malicious smile across his face. He was enjoying this– or at the very least, he was excited to see an attempt come so close to success.
“Upupu, a solid effort, kid! You almost managed to get her! You probably would have been better off targeting someone less athletic, and a little bit of practice in aiming wouldn’t have hurt much.”
Karoshi-kuma dusted himself off and adjusted his glasses, appearing more as if he was now scolding an employee for losing a stapler than confronting a student who had just attempted murder. Matsu shrank back, their eyes darting between him and the other students.
“What was it you asked me for? For me to ‘fix you?’ Well, with sloppy work like that, it just doesn’t seem possible. Especially now that you’ve climbed up to numero uno on everyone’s suspicion list the next time someone kicks the bucket! You kids today…you can’t even take the time to plan out a good ol’ fashioned ambush without messing it up anymore!”
His words made Matsu freeze, what color was left in their face draining out before they clamped their hand over their mask to hold back a sob. Their other hand gripped their side tightly.
The bear shook his head and began to walk off, briefly acknowledging the onlooking students.
“I wonder what you’re gonna do to little wheezy over here! Upupu, maybe some of you have your own punishments in mind? None of my business. Just remember that my patience is wearing thin, and those bonuses I promised you aren’t a standing offer– if I get too impatient, you bastards get nothing! I might even have to make some…’cuts’ of my own…money doesn’t grow on trees or fall out of beehives, after all.”
With that, Karoshi-kuma trotted off, leaving the onlookers to deal with the current situation they were now faced with… which included Matsukaze abruptly starting to run again, towards the direction of the Main Gate.
Chapter 2 Event: Coup de Grâce
The muggy skies of the district overhead showed no signs of the day passing by. It always seemed like the city was shrouded in darkness, even in the middle of the day. Now, with the weight of the motive looming over all the talented students of this class, the atmosphere was nearly suffocating. Every step you took seemed to be one step closer to your last, and every breath filling your lungs reminded you that death was just waiting on the doorstep. It was like you were just waiting for someone to be visited by the grim reaper first— and with the screams that were travelling from the Agaria Gate Apartments’ Train station, you realized that it was sooner than you expected.
