Bai Yutang + Linglong Honey. Zhan Zhao Adventures | 雨霖铃 (2026)
I'm hurt too! Right here. He kicked me! Didn't you just have Linglong Honey?
Other: Bai Yutang + Yanling

Remember this. You owe me a big favor. You're charged with securing a sword for me.
Other: Bai Yutang + Linglong Honey
Huo Xiaomei. You didn't get badly hurt, did you? Want to go together?

zhan zhao adventures:
Don't act like you're a saint here to lecture me!
Lately I've been thinking about costume design choices re: Zhan Zhao, and obviously there's the pattern that whenever he does something official(ish), he's wearing red, but what really tickles my brain is whether there are more patterns with the other colors. Finding out would require me scouring through the whole drama while taking a lot of notes, possibly making a chart, and then maybe coming to a conclusion that actually it's all random. So, a lot of work for uncertain benefits (although arguably one benefit would be just looking at the drama). On the other hand, I'm now on vacation, so plenty of brain capacity and time to use, not to mention the weather forecast here looks kind of rainy for the near future. We'll see how it goes, and if I end up with a mindset of, "I want a pattern so I'll make one, regardless of whether there's any" (pattern recognition is what humans are good at anyway :D)
雨霖铃 | Zhan Zhao Adventures E37 ° I thought about keeping the truth from you. But I couldn't bear to let you send me off without knowing the truth, and regret it later.
You wouldn’t think that flamingoes are extremophiles just from looking at them. It’s like somebody tried to build the vertebrate equivalent of that fungus that lives inside nuclear reactors, and ended up with a gangly pink dinosaur with a spoon for a face.
For everyone in the comments asking how flamingos are extremophiles:
Flamingos can survive in low oxygen, high altitude, high temperatures, low temperatures, high alkaline, they can and will drink boiling water and they can be completely frozen at night and still get up the next morning
Don’t fuck with flamingos
….. Didn’t know most of that
Huh… so that’s why zoos don’t put them somewhere warm during winter.
Oh yeah, this leaves out what I *did* know about them–they can also survive hypersalinity. That is, water so salty it kills practically everything else–water so salty it burns your skin.
American flamingos just drink that shit
(animal death) this is a real undoctored photograph (*though the body was stood up for the shot) of a dead flamingo on the surface of lake natron, a lake so salty and so alkaline that it’s naturally carbonated like soda and would eat through your stomach lining if you drank from it.
When this photo went viral years ago, most people assumed this poor flamingo must have been killed by the lake.
It is actually the lake where 75% of its global population are hatched. This is a photo from the same lake:
Some species of flamingo actually subsist almost entirely on a diet of bacteria! In other words, there is a species of dinosaur that eats only bacteria and lives in lakes so toxic they would kill almost anything else—and it is best known to the average person as a kitschy lawn decoration.

RATING: RELIABLE
Flamingos can survive in high altitudes, hypersaline conditions, and caustic lakes.
Source: ‘All flamingo species have evolved to live in some of the planet’s most extreme wetlands, like caustic “soda lakes”, hypersaline lagoons or high-altitude salt flats.’
They can survive water so alkaline it burns human skin.
Source: ‘More than a million lesser flamingos breed in Tanzania’s Lake Natron, for instance, a lake fed by hot springs with water so alkaline that it can strip away human skin (one pioneering flamingo researcher named Leslie Brown spent months in Nairobi General Hospital after burning his legs wading out to observe where the birds nested).’
They can drink water at near-boiling temperatures.
Source: ‘They can drink water at near boiling point to collect freshwater from springs and geysers at lake edges. If no freshwater is available, flamingos can use glands in their head that remove salt, draining it out from their nasal cavity.’
The lakes they inhabit can freeze overnight, and the flamingos can survive once it thaws in the morning.
Source: ‘The birds may seem to epitomize the tropics, but they also live in the Andes, 15,000 feet above sea level, where they rest on lakes that freeze around them overnight.
“You’ll see them sitting there like snowballs, frozen on ice,” Dr. Arengo said. “And as the temperature warms up, they thaw out, fluff themselves up and go about their business.”’
The photo is indeed from Lake Natron, taken by photographer Nick Brandt. The content of the lake chemically preserves animal corpses that die there. You can see more photos of this here.
It is also true that 75% of Lesser Flamingos are hatches on Lake Natron.
Source: ‘The lake’s landscape is surreal and deadly—and made even more bizarre by the fact that it’s the place where nearly 75 percent of the world’s lesser flamingos are born.’
Some species of Flamingo eat cyanobacteria or algae.
Source: ‘Flamingos have very specialised diets. And their food is responsible for their famous pink colouration. The two species in Planet Earth II eat a lot of floating microscopic algae, which contains carotenoid pigments, the same types of chemical that make carrots orange. These pigments turn their feathers pink, orange and red – without them, flamingos would be white.’
… @todaysbird ??
yeah they’re just like that

— Sunrise, by Louise Glück
I keep seeing posts claiming that x y or z action you can do to build a better world won’t matter. That capitalism doesn’t care, and your own actions dont amount to much.
It’s so painfully individualistic. Of course me doing that thing isn’t going to save anybody or anything.
Im not trying to be a superhero who personally saves the say.
I am one leaf making oxygen in a massive forest of other trees making oxygen. I am doing my best and having faith that millions of others will do their best as well.
Because that can and has made big changes over time. Like. That is just how change happens. Thats cultural shifts. Thats political shifts. Thats how lasting changes happen.
I don’t plant milkweed because I’m personally gonna save monarch butterflies. I plant milkweed because I know thousands of us are gonna plant milkweed and send money to the people fighting horrible pesticides in court.
The standard for change isn’t “is my doing this going to change the world?” The standard is “is my doing this part of the shift I want to see my community make?” And if the answer is yes, I do my best.

Transcript Under the Cut
I need us to talk more about Huo Linglong and how it's such an interesting version of the classic coming-of-age of a young hero. Her leaving from home is not once looked upon as naivete or foolishness in any way, by the narrative or by the other main characters. It's not just a tool of the narrative to kick-start the tale of a naive hero being disillusioned by reality. It's seen as her right, her freedom to choose her own life. It's so telling because the harshest, darkest truths she has to confront don't come from some 'outside', from the world she has been shltered from. They all end up being from her own family, things in that shadows of which she has unknowingly lived her whole life. Leaving home is what gives her the agency, the freedom to learn what truly happened. It shows her her family's complicated, questionable past. It makes her stand up not just for herself but her entire sect and family. It breaks the endless cycle of generations of abuse borne by the women of her house!
And what is it that she encounters out in the real world? She finds Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao. She finds love and companionship that make her stronger, that support her while she processes the grief of the past that gets revealed. She finds people who lift her up in every way, at every turn, people who will fight for her the way her own family did not. She grows stronger and more capable. The Huo Linglong of the very first episodes, more carefree and and laughing and teasing more easily, is just as strong and capable and is never scoffed at for being ignorant or a fool in any way. The Huo Linglong of the later episodes, more sober and burdened and carrying so many worries, is not diminished by these burdens but is stronger for all she has learned and loved. It's just such a beautiful character arc!! What is growing up if not learning to love and be loved and growing all the stronger for it!!!

The funniest thing about Zhan Zhao to me is that he's a manipulative little shit (affectionate!). He's good at both logical thinking as well as empathizing with people, which makes him very good at his job, but with his good and kind character it would be all too easy to write him in a really boring way (and in many cases with characters who have similar traits this has happened). However, the creators understood that even though he is good and moral, it doesn't mean he can't use that intelligence to his own advantage, which he does in ways that mostly fall into three categories.
One is using it for cases to gather information, or in some cases just because the people deserve to be uncomfortable (scaring the Yicheng magistrate comes to mind). This works very well for him, because from his reputation people expect him to be straightforward and honest. He even manages to play Hu Xiaochen more than once (first the pretend fight that exposed him, and later getting him to lead them to the Lin house). Fully approved use of manipulation.
Less approved and kind of self-destructive is when he uses those skills to put distance between himself and others. For example, at the very beginning he kind of gently steers Huo Linglong away from the truth of his task, using what he figures out about her from their conversation (way more than she realizes then). At first it works, but she's too sharp and stubborn for it to last, and finally in 13 when he's trying to talk her out of going to investigate the secret area with him and Yuehua, she calls him out on it (at which point he has to basically put it in words that it's because he cares about her).
Finally, clearly the most approved use of this skill is messing with Bai Yutang, who never really learns to deal with it, but keeps falling for it. Starting from that first night when he's like, "I might kill you," and ZZ just goes sure, whatever, and of course knows who he is and doesn't let it on just because, until the final scene where ZZ goads him to pass out drunk. Indeed ZZ is going to win all their fights. It just amuses me to no end that BYT who is so smart and resourceful and plenty capable of manipulating others himself has zero defenses against ZZ.
