Esprit Sain: Introduction
3, 2, 1… HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2020, bring it on!
The shrilling screams of people who cannot wait to welcome the year ahead was heard from around the world. People wore glasses that say ‘2020’, as if to say that we all have a clear vision of what was then dreamt as a fruitful year.
But the fruitful became wistful. Months have passed, and we are still confined in the dimly lit box known as home. For some, this is a good opportunity for knowing more about the self – but for most people, this box continuously folds itself inward, smaller, and smaller, and smaller.
Being in almost 200 days under strict quarantine protocols, people have already exhausted every new possible hobby they can try such as baking, cooking, gaming, online selling, and even urban gardening – thus the rise of the plantitos and plantitas! But if we are to visually draw the current circumstance we are all in, it might look like a cosmos of different things, ranging from monotonous daily living to a mound of raging uncertainty. As we are locked up inside our homes, we are also starting to drown in an endless swirl of loneliness – we have endured and are yet to endure months of self-isolation and limited socialization. Thus, in this time of COVID-19, checking up on our mental health is as important as wearing a mask.
Studies have shown that times of uncertainty such as a global pandemic can bring a tremendous amount of stress. Economic decline, continuous contagion, and inept health response can be some of the specific stressors that might take a toll on our mental state. That’s why it is important now more than ever to try new activities that would enrich not only your physical strength, but also your mental health.
STudents Engaged in Lifelong Achievement and Recovery (STELLAR) is here to help you! We are a team of mental health advocates ready to bring you new things to try to ease your feelings of tediousness at home and most importantly, to keep your mental state in tip-top shape. We have curated exciting activities (that will not require you to leave your homes, of course) for each day of the month of September and we have compiled all these in an easy to navigate Tumblr calendar, Esprit Sain, a French word which means “a healthy mind.” The project specifically aims to achieve the following goals:
1. To introduce activities which will strengthen an individual’s physical and mental health;
2. To appease feelings of confinement, monotony, and isolation during the course of the implemented stay-at-home protocol; and
3. To help people (especially those who are currently dealing with stress) to recalibrate/ realign their mindset and holistically improve themselves.
So, if you are ready to take your first step to becoming your most #StellarSelf, go ahead and read how to navigate the page!
