PSSSTT PSSST peep the blellow keychain! You can get it on acggoods: through here! These two are so lovely I wanted to make something special for them, chapter 5 felt like a walk down memory lane for me. It really felt like I was back in 2015-2016 when I used to obsess over the Undertale souls. I really haven't changed much, things went full circle lol. Ty Toby for the memories and for inventing gay people
was looking for pose references and came across something that made me stop dead in my tracks
Introducing my Blue and Yellow fankid, Olive!
Using colors that I mixed from Blue & Yellow, I created this silly girl, Olive! She is well-read and southern spoken, taking after both her fathers in her enjoyment of elegance and southern style. Ollie or Olivia also suffice as more human names to use!

((can take place after any stuff Micheal is currently busy with! :>))
Suddenly, a large white orb of light appeared near Micheal, surface shimmering with blues and greens before abruptly clearing with a faint wooshing sound, leaving a winged humanoid in its wake. Short black hair, two wings settled on the upper shoulders, feathers white with black banding similar to a snowy owls, alongside oddly proportioned limbs and the long, wispily feathered tail swishing about marked them as different from any of the known archangels.
Pushing himself upright using his wings, arms wrapped tight around a pearl the size of a baseball, Connie peered around with just two blue eyes, trying to discern where he'd managed to teleported too-
“Huh..? Where in the fuck did you come from? No wait… how in the fuck did you get here..?!”
Michael immediately stands up from his chair, confused and a little apprehensive upon seeing the stranger in his office, the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t sure how to properly approach this situation, at least not yet
“Hey, you good over there? God on high, how did you manage to end up in my office? Teleporting in here isn’t an easy feat, at all!”
The winged humanoid jerked in place, instinctively raising to his feet upon seeing Micheal, wings flared up defensively to make himself look bigger. Said wings were very very fluffy, also like a snowy owls, but unlike one, it had small 'hands' at the joint, four small claws extended. The legs looked wrong, shaped much more similarly to a feline or canine than a humans would be. The young mans(?) build was lean and too thin, pale skin covered in a smattering of scars born from claws and teeth here and there. The only clothing he had being short skirt around his waist, made from the pelt of some unknown animal.
Connie wobbled faintly on two legs, widening his stance, still clinging tight to the brilliantly shiny pearl, its surface shimmering unnaturally, staring Micheal down with growing fear.
"I- I don't know- is- is this Earth..?" he asked hesitantly, watching the archangel closely for any sudden movements. He'd never seen anything like Micheal before, or a place like this office.
“No… far from it, you teleported to Heaven, specifically my office in the Heavenly archive room.”
Michael crosses his arms, but not in an angry way, if anything… the eldest of the Archangels seems just as confused as you are, he’s used to other angels teleporting in… but this is a whole new level for him
“I’m not upset or anything… I guess fucking spooked is the right way to put it, who are you anyways? I’ve never seen a being quite like yourself before.”
The young man's head tilted to the side, confused, but curious. His posture loosened, wings lowering, but still outstretched to keep his balance. His grip on the pearl loosened, its warm magic lapping up softly over him like the ocean waves it came form. A reassurance that he could look after himself should things turn nasty.
"My name is Connie, of the Wild Woods. I'm... I'm from a world called Airth." he dipped his head dismissively, tail drooping low. "I- I'm sorry for trespassing- I didn't mean to come into your home-"
“The Wild Woods? Airth? I… have no Goddamn idea where any of those places are… there aren’t any records of them in this place… at least last time I checked there weren’t.”
Michael glances over at the many ceiling high bookshelves just outside his office, everything within holding records and knowledge that surpass many realms, though there are places more grand than this in Heaven
“It’s a non issue, Connie. I’m actually quite used to others just kinda… appearing outta fucking nowhere here, it’s just that seeing a being such as yourself is what startled me.”
Connie chirped softly, uncertain how to reply. "People only recently started leaving Airth... a-as far as I know of, at least..."
His wings twitched, and he reached out as subtly as possible with his magic, searching for any source of water. In general, the young man looked uncomfortable on his feet- wings too big, too heavy, to make it comfortable, let alone practical! He clearly had a different body plan than the archangel's.
"Are we... near Earth...?" he asked, cautiously hopeful. Then seemed to realize something, "I'm sorry- I didn't ask your name. What is it...?" he smiled a little; his teeth were sharper than a humans, made for eating meat.
“Hmm… well then records of Airth probably don’t exist yet… that’s gonna be interesting trying to figure out more about it. And no, we’re closer to fucking space than the Earth.”
Michael didn’t mean for his tone to sound frustrated or anything, the sol behind him glowing orange the more the eldest of the Archangels spoke, he was definitely interested now
“Oh, I’m Archangel Michael, God’s Wisdom, the eldest of my brothers. Sorry, formalities usually aren’t the first things that come to mind for me.”
"...space?" Connie questioned softly, mostly to himself, wings twitching faintly.
He shifted into a crouch, wings pressing to the ground to keep his balance. The exhaustion of his journey was creeping up on him, but this wasn't the time to rest. He had to figure out how to get to Earth- he had to find his sister. Then the Archangel's words registered and he tensed, looking over Michael more closely.
"...you're- a god?" something close to awe in his voice.
“Well, if you consider Heaven to be part of lowest levels of space, then I guess so? It’s honestly kinda fucking hard to tell where exactly in the sky we are due to the-“
Michael pauses upon hearing you call him a God, the eldest of the Archangels didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, him? A God? Now that was rich, only the Seraphim could be considered demigods, not the Archangels
“Umm, no, I’m not a God, Connie, just an Archangel. But my title is “God’s Wisdom”, I was created to have the knowledge of The Father himself, that’s all.”
He only seemed more confused, wings twitching and poofing up.
"I don't know what that means."
He curled into himself, claws digging into the pearl, which pulsed with magical potential. Connie was tired, mentally, physically, magically, and he was being confronted with the knowledge that he was dealing with a being of higher power, and not just a denizen of a new world. Tired tears pricked his eyes as he continued,
"You sound like a god, but won't speak this creator gods name. I don't know what I have to do to be polite to this new worlds deities. I don't know if my gods can hear me here. But I can't go back- I-" he sniffled and bowed his head, trying and failing to hold back his tears.
“Hmm, I guess this is confusing to a being who’s never seen Heaven before… maybe I-“
Michael immediately took notice of the fact that tears were falling from your eyes, his parental instincts took over and he kneeled down without a second thought, the eldest of the Archangels making sure to not scare you
“Connie, is everything ok? You don’t have to be afraid, and if there’s anything you feel like telling me, I’m all ears… I’ll listen, ok?”
The young humanoid bared sharp teeths, grip tightening on the pearl- a singular defense if anything went wrong. (Michael might sense the powerful magic coming from it... like a small star, compressed into a baseball-sized sphere. And Connie was actively tapping into it with his own, much much smaller, pool of mafics.) Connie's wings bristled, and a faint growl rose in his throat, and the words finally burst from this throat,
"My home is dying!!" a wretched sob wracked through him, and he curled tighter into himself, pressing a hand to his face. "You won't get a chance to learn about it- its going to be a-all gone- I don't know how soon- but I couldn't- we had to leave! I have to f-find Earth, f-find my sibling-" his breaths choked and he whined, a low animal sound.
“What..? When did..?”
Michael was completely baffled by the news, but he knew that he had to remain strong… a world dying, the eldest of the Archangels couldn’t, no, wouldn’t allow that to happen… not after Earth was destroyed by The Final War…
“Connie, I need you to take a breath and tell me how I can help you, ok? I can’t allow another version of Earth to die… I… won’t be able to live with myself… so please, let me help you!”
Connie nodded, sucking in a rough breath and letting it out, grasping at thin string of hope the archangel had tossed to him. He had to calm down, and focus- but... there was one problem...
"I... I don't know whats wrong... I don't know whats wrong with my world..."
He looked at the pearl in his hands, then hesitantly held it up for the archangel to see.
"I just know... this let me make the jump from my world to yours... its- its been done before. Supposedly... in myths. But... in them- was Earth. A pl-place where even wingless could thrive. I hoped... I thought... I could get there with my sister... but..."
If Earth was already dead... then were the Arithians doomed...? Connie worried deeply for his home, for his people...
“Let me take a look…”
Michael glances at the pearl in your hands, he saw how everything moved, the way it seemed to work… the eldest of the Archangels understood, then he remembered something regarding a certain layer of Hell
“Connie, even though The Final War practically destroyed Earth, caused a mass extinction of humanity… there’s a specific layer of Hell that is completely peaceful now. One that resembles what Earth used to look like before the war.”
Connie was hesitant, he didn't understand what Michael was talking about --he understood Heaven as a world of its own, and in turn thought Hell was something similar-- but decided to put his trust into the archangel, and held out the pearl for him to take.
The pearl itself was born of a giant clam, who's ancestors had consumed the fragments of fallen stars, and began producing pearls of similar power. A concentrated source of power, of magic, that allowed whomever wielded it to enhance their own abilities, or to reach beyond their means and use magic they had no prior access too. Including... teleportation. Even without this magical artifact, Connie might have some limited ability to teleport- but then again, he might not, and Michael may be sensing his own abilities reflected back, but stronger.
"I don't know what that means..." he said quietly, drawing his wings in closer around himself. "War, humanity, Hell... I don't know..." his shoulders tensing, fearing suddenly he'd be seen as stupid... again...
“You don’t need to worry about not understanding, the Heavenly archive room where we currently are has records of everything. So if you ever feel like researching these things, feel free.”
Michael’s voice was a lot more gentle than before, he understood the situation and wanted to do his best in helping you, even if the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t sure if this gamble was a good move or not
“Connie, would you like to see that peaceful place in Hell? I can teleport us there, it’s a non issue for me. And I think you might find it comforting, the choice is yours, of course.”
The young humanoid considered it, then nodded. Curious, yes, but so tired too. Somewhere quiet to rest for a bit would help. He wouldn't be able to help anyone exhausted and hungry. He was maybe presuming what this Earth-recreation in Hell was going to look like or be like, but he trusted the Archangel.
“Alright, let’s go then. Don’t worry, the teleportation will only take a second and it’s completely painless, although I will advise you to close your eyes.”
Michael made sure he had some food and water on him before walking over to you and placing his right hand on your left shoulder, the destination was Limbo, and the eldest of the Archangels knew that it was a peaceful layer now
“Just let me know when you’re ready, ok, Connie? There’s no rush.”
Something about that made Connie smile a little, leaning a little into the hand on his shoulder.
"I know about blipping, Michael. I think its impressive you can take others with you so easily, though." he complimented. He took a breath and released it, closing his eyes, "I'm ready-"
“Oh? So you know how teleportation works, to an extent at least, that’s good to know. Alright, here we go.”
Michael takes a breath and teleports both himself and you to the peaceful layer of Hell known as Limbo, it only takes the eldest of the Archangels 2 seconds to get the job done, smiling to himself, he pets your shoulder gently
“You can open your eyes now, Connie, we’re here. Told you it would be a quick journey.”
"Mhm! Though- I can't make very big jumps, let alone world-hopping! S'whats the pearl is for- helps with enhancing magic."
He peeked his eye open, blinking around at their surroundings, rising to his feet and turning a slow circle to take everything in. There was soft birdsong that he couldn't identify, leafy trees- the ground underfoot was strangely smooth- there were strange (carved) stone pillars-
"I've never seen things like this-!" he peeped, birdlike himself, growing excited.
He bounded away on all fours to go inspect one of the trees, standing upright again to lightly paw at the... strangely metallic bark...?
“Either way, that’s still very impressive. Not every being can handle such tasks, it can be very taxing on the body and mind after all.”
Michael watched as you looked around Limbo, but the moment he saw you realize that the trees were made of metal, not actual bark, the eldest of the Archangels sighed and approached
“Connie, this place, Limbo, is a recreation of what Earth looked like before it became inhabitable. Hell itself decided to make it this way, not everything is organic, unfortunately.”
Connie muttered something under his breath about 'both our gods made us strong, I guess!' still lightly pawing at the metallic tree bark. Until... Michael explained what was going on.
"Hell... itself...?" he repeated, pulling away from the tree, wings huddling around himself. Looking around more nervously.
"...I thought- you said Hell was a place."
“Oh, right… Hell is a super organism, it’s this entire place, all nine layers, yet xe can take on a humanoid form if need be.”
Michael mentally smacks himself in the face for completely forgetting to mention to you about how Hell actually works and who they really are, the eldest of the Archangels knew better
“Connie, you don’t need to worry about anything. Hell won’t come and attack unless he senses a true threat. And believe me when I say that you’re not someone who she’d deem as one. And if it does… I’ll protect you, ok?”
Connie stared at him, aghast. His wings flared sharply and he instinctively lashed out with his magic, looking for any source of water he could use, but he found nothing. Not in this- space at least...? Wasn't this a wide open field?? What?!
"That doesn't make any sense!!" burst out of him, genuinely terrified at the prospect. "Is Heaven like that? Earth??? Is anywhere safe?!"
Overwhelmed, he was starting to cry again, at the end of his rope. The growing idea that maybe he could bring his sister to Limbo was no longer on option, and with Earth presumably destroyed- where could he even go...? Forgetting Michael's promise to help fix Airth.
“I know of only two places that truly are safe… well, as safe as they possibly can be, if you’re willing to hear me out.”
Michael knelt down to face you at eye level, even though his face was shrouded in darkness due to the attire he wore, the eldest of the Archangels wanted you to know that he could be trusted
“Connie, take a breath, alright? Not all hope is lost, and I will make good on my promise to help fix Airth. I don’t break promises, if anything… I see them through to the bitter end.”
Connie hiccuped, but managed to suck in a few breaths, struggling to calm down. He rubbed the tears from his eyes, wings hunching around himself again, no longer bristling.
"I... I don't know what you c-could do... if you couldn't fix Earth... you're not a god..." sad, exhausted words. Not meant to hurt, simply spoken from a youngster who genuinely thought that what he spoke was the truth. "My gods can't fix my home... they... could only send their children away..."
And even if Airth could be fixed... then what...? Connie couldn't go back- he'd promised his sister that.
Exhausted, and in desperate need of a break since yesterday, Connie tottered forward and pressed himself against Michael, wings curling around the archangel in an impromptu hug.
“The thing is… none of us angels could do a thing to help Earth, not when humanity was actively destroying it during The Final War. When we finally had reason to go down… it was too late.”
Michael looked down, ashamed of the fact that he and the others couldn’t help save Earth in time… it was completely obliterated by everything, and Ariel had become so sick and weak during that time… the eldest of the Archangels regretted it severely
“Connie, I brought along some food and water, I can tell that you’re exhausted. Wanna have something to eat and take a break? Nothing good ever comes out of overexertion.”
The youngster didn't really understand everything the Archangel was talking about- only that there was simply nothing that could've been done. Connie nodded at the offer of food, though didn't pull away from the archangel immediately, unconsciously nuzzling at his robes before finally withdrawing.
"...you s-said... you keep promises...?" he suddenly asked, head tilting faintly.
“Alright, lemme just-“
Michael reached into his robes and pulled out a bunch of different snacks along with water, he definitely came prepared, the eldest of the Archangels smiled gently despite his face being shrouded in darkness
“To the best of my ability, Connie. I’ve yet to break a promise, and I never will, everything I do… is for those I care about. They come before me, I do everything to help, even if it seems impossible.”
Connie accepted the food and water, though he wasn't really familiar with anything other than meat products... and even then- he wasn't used to cooked meals.
"...whatever happens to Airth... can- you promise to keep me and my sister, Wini, safe? With you?"
...there seemed to be more to the story than a dying world that drove Connie to flee his home.
“..!”
Michael seemed to freeze for a second, he wasn’t expecting you to bring up such a thing, but the eldest of the Archangels relaxed a minute later, who was he to deny such a request?
“Of course, Connie. I promise with everything in my heart and soul to protect you and your sister, Wini. I have no reason to deny your request, it’s the least I can do for you, my child.”
Connie teared up, sniffling as quietly as possible as he nodded, posture slumping with relief. Now, he just had to find his sibling, and get her back to Heaven.
"Thank you-!" he whispered, curling back into the archangel, a faint, contented rumble rising up from his throat.
“Of course, my child, it’s a non issue for me after all.”
Michael gently held you close, purring softly while he gazed at what Limbo had to offer, the eldest of the Archangels knew what his task was now, and damnit if he was going to see it through to the end
“Connie, you have my word that no matter what happens… I will protect you and Wini, nothing will harm either of you as long as I still breathe.”
Connie cuddled into the archangel, faint rumbles growing into a stronger, contented purring, going limp in Michael's hold. Finally letting exhaustion take him after stars knew how long on his feet. It would probably be for the best to take him back to Heaven, and maybe try to dig up some information on Airth, or where Wini was....
“Rest well, my child…”
Michael gets up and holds you in his arms, being careful not to wake you, it seems as though the eldest of the Archangels has done this before… taking a breath, he teleports back to the Heavenly archive room and lets you rest in his office
“Now then… in order to do this I need to know more about Airth, there’s gotta be a book or something about it here… it can’t be a place that just now formed.”
It took quite some time, for despite how it sounded, the book wasn't in the "A" section, and at first glance, didn't have any words at all. The cover bore a peculiar symbol; an island hovering far above ocean waves, smaller symbols that hinted at burrows and plant life on the levitating island, and fish in the waves below. Due to his position as God's Wisdom, Michael could swiftly parse the pictograms and scattered language within the book, but... scattered throughout... were the odd phrases in Earth-based languages.
The book wasn't changing itself to become more understandable- the words were just *there*, entirely different from the visual language Arithians used. Was it worth it to consider was that something about Airth itself must have some relation to Earth, somehow... right? Or did it have something to do with Connie's sudden appearance? Because for Airth to have an some ancient ties with Earth was ludicrous... wasn't it...?
As for the actual books contents- it mostly seemed to be stories. The creation of the world (two beings appearing in darkness, creating a world together. One of land and sun, the other moon and sky. Creating the world, creating plants and creatures and people, before making the sun moon and stars, to light day, light the night, and guide the way). Another story seemed to tell the tale of someone, a very much winged someone, flying into the sky and stealing a star for their distraught or ill child. And even more- arithians wielding magic that could control storms, or the sea, or pieces of earth. Arithians hunting prey far larger than themselves, Arithians residing in treetop nests and shallow burrows, working together to raise their chilidren.
From the mundane and back to the fantastical- another story telling of pieces of stars falling from the sky and down into the seas below, or impacting the floating islands that made up their dry land, and arithians discovering the pearl-like celestial objects, fashioning jewelry from them- or using them to open portals and hop between worlds.
The small blurbs in human language did little to clarify things, seeming the scrawls of a child. A question, or what might be a title of the story, or a name of a character. It was difficult to tell. It told the story of a species surviving, thriving even, with their gods watching over them and answering their prayers....
Until... Michael turned the pages halfway through, only to find ruined, charred pages. On closer inspection, they weren't simply burned; no soot rubbed off on his fingers. It looked like a myriad of teeth marks from innumerous mouths, both large and miniscule, had taken to gnawing and grinding the pages to bits, leaving these strange, magically damage scraps behind...
“…”
Michael made sure to soak in every bit of information regarding Airth and its history, not leaving anything out, he couldn’t, the eldest of the Archangels needed to understand everything fully
“Such an interesting place… and these scraps, I can sense the magic emanating off of them, despite the damage… hmm… further research is needed. I can’t do this with just one book, and those scraps need to be properly analyzed.”
Maybe sharing the book with Connie (barring the damaged portion) would yield more answers-? While the intention came easily enough to the Archangel, Michael was drawing from Earth and Heaven-centric ideas in order to translate these pictograms. And Airth wasn't apart of the Fathers creation. And if one God, one Father could exist- why couldn't others exist out there? Other Fathers out there making their own worlds?
It took some searching, but with the newly gained context from the first book, Michael eventually found another book; "Growing Plants from the Sky". There was a stamp slapped over the front labeling it as blasphemy; humans assuming newly discovered plant life were from Heaven or Eden. But the books motif... an island in the air with a single tree, above an ocean below. A book about Airth plants...?
The book was written in old english, and through written descriptions and beautifully drawn pictures, detailed a myriad of different plants. Some had medicinal properties, others were used to construct baskets or decorations, and many more... were entirely useless, or lacked in beauty. But were still spoken of so fondly, like someone recalling a memory they didn't want to forget.
But then... in the midst of all this, one of the edible entries was stamped over as BLASPHEMY: A depiction of a grove of trees, heavy with a particular fruit. An apple of all things. Spoken of almost reverently, as a treat that became rarer and rarer since the authors youth. That was fought over on occasion.
This entry of all things got what might've been considered a fictitious book marked as blasphemous, both on Earth upon its discovery, and that black stain on it followed it into Heaven.
“Blasphemy eh? Why doesn’t that fucking surprise me? Anything and everything that doesn’t fit the vision of Heaven is immediately labeled as such after all.”
Exhaling, Michael grabbed all three books but decided to hide the one with the label of “Blasphemy” in his cloak for now, not knowing if it would upset Connie or not, the eldest of the Archangels then turned to where he left the child to rest
“As much as I don’t wanna wake him up… he’s the only one who can help me get a better understanding of Airth. Alright Michael, just take it slow.”
It took a little doing, shaking the little guys shoulder so he didn't just fall right back asleep (his wing raising after the initial jostle and making cute lil beckoning chirps and meeps to invite cuddling), but the youngster finally blinked awake, pushing himself up and rubbing at his face.
"W-whats going on?" he asked, peering up at Michael in confusion.
“Sorry for waking you my child, I just need some help with something.”
Michael gently places two of the three books down for you to see, the eldest of the Archangels had a slightly hopeful aura surrounding him the whole time
“Connie, I found some books regarding Airth, but there are a few pages that even I can’t understand. Do you think you can help me out with this?”
"...?" Connie nodded, a little confused what the archangel meant until he saw the books. He carefully touched one of the covers, head tilting curiously. "This is a book...?"
...maybe a surprise, maybe not, that the lad didn't know what such a thing was- Airth could have used scrolls, or drawn on cave walls. As long as he could read the pictograms, he could help, still.
"I'll do my best..." he projected his claws away, picking at the edge of the book with much more human-like nails, trying to open it without damaging it.
“Thank you, Connie, I appreciate it a lot, my child. And please don’t rush, everything will be alright, ok?”
Michael helped you open then book then watched on, trying his best not to intimidate you, the eldest of the Archangels was actually very interested in seeing how this would go, he always did love seeing new things after all
“…”
Connie chirped and mrrp'ed softly to himself as he carefully turned the pages, still wary of causing damage. But all the while, his eyes grew wide and were sparkling, thin tail swishing about excitedly. He hadn't seen this sortof thing often, usually just stray or rare symbols carved into rock and wood, but here! Here were whole pages, of voices that linger, telling so many stories!
"I heard about books on Earth, but never saw one's before-!"
He was taking a closer look at one of the stories; particularly fluffy bird-arithians, raising masks up to the thin sliver of sun that lay on a distant horizon. Something was familiar about this... but... He looked up at the Archangel,
"What were you struggling with-?" he asked, absentmindedly pawing through the pages, trying to find more of the stories... he was at risk of discovering the destroyed sections-
“There are some pages here that seem to not make as much sense to me as the others, my child…”
As much as Michael hated admitting to the fact that he was lost in trying to understand these things, the eldest of the Archangels ignored himself and was considering saying more when he remembered the destroyed sections
“Oh, wait, Connie-“
"Oh-? Like what?" he asked, hands pausing on the pages- one more page turned, and he'd see the destroyed segments.
"Some of 'em are the worlds stories- like how my deities made them, and made Airithians- and some are more... about normal Airithians? And how they got or learned how to use new magics."
He smiled softly, wings twitching and fluffing up gently at such ideas. Maybe there's one about ice magic...?
“Oh? So these texts are really that-“
Michael had to stop himself from getting more invested, the eldest of the Archangels knew he couldn’t let you see the destroyed section, how was he supposed to explain it to you? He just now found the books after all
“Connie, wait..! Don’t turn the-“
"...?" Connie was already in the process of turning the pages; backtracking by a few pages, looking for something he'd skimmed past. He'd paused on one of the earlier stories, about the parent stealing a star for their family. The pages showed things in a little more detail than simple pictograms, picturing the two creator deities approaching the parent, hands held out in- offering, possibly? Or to demand the star, still clutched in the parents hands, to be returned...?
"What about them...? This is my worlds stories- I haven't seen or heard all of 'em, but, I never got to talk to any Scaled either, only Feathered."
He pointed to the pages he had open, tapping the 'sun' deity who had draconic features, then the 'moon' deity, who was more birdlike, explaining,
"These are our deities- Valurien made the sun in the center of the world and broke it apart to get it out- and she made the moon for Amaris afterwards, to give light at night. And this-"
He pointed to the arithian that had stolen a star, who, unlike the depictions of the deities, wasn't clarified as either feathered or scaled.
"-is the Flame-Bearer. They were a normal arithian who did an incredible thing, getting a star-pearl from one of the lanterns, and used its power to heal their child. But, it changed them forever. So, Amaris and Valurien asked if they'd do it all over again, given the chance. When they said yes, the deities asked if they'd be willing to help others, too. And they said yes-"
Connie sat back, gesturing a bit more dramatically,
"And they became a deity, too. When people pass away, they speak with their spirit, and guide them into the sky. And they fuel the lanterns of the sun and moon and stars. Oh! And their child developed healing magic- and thats how healing magic came to regular Airithians. No need for halo's or anything."
“…”
Michael was completely stunned by your explanation of Airth’s history, mythology… everything about it… the eldest of the Archangels just stood in silence for a bit, taking everything in, all of it came as a huge shock to him
“Connie… I had no idea that such a place existed. This is just… I’m so amazed! Sorry, I’m kinda at a loss for words…”
Connie couldn't help but giggle at the archangels reaction.
"Its okay! I... sorta guessed that it'd be a surprise- you kept talkin' like one person made your world. Or Earth at least. I thought you might be like the Flame Bearer?"
Not originally a deity, but a person who did something extraordinary to earn the title, and the responsibilities. Given how Connie understand his deities, and how Michael initially described himself... it made a certain kind of sense.
He was starting to flip through the pages again, looking more closely at those stories that were less familiar to him... a place of snow where the sun rarely rose, for instance... the book liked to vary itself like that, switching between much smaller, less detailed pictograms, into larger, two-page spread pictures showing something in far greater detail. Not that it easily clarified what was being shown, at least, not to someone without the right context.
Curiously, this Airth didn't seem to have any mentions or allusions to a place like Heaven or Hell... though even without a reformative torture dimension, where did the deities of this realm live-?
“A Flame Bearer, eh? Well… considering that I wield the power of the sun… I don’t blame you for thinking such things.”
Michael listened and watched as you flipped through the pages of the book, the eldest of the Archangels couldn’t help his curiosity, how was he supposed to remain quiet when it came to things so foreign to him?
“Hey, Connie… since you don’t seem to have an equivalent to Heaven or Hell where you live… I gotta ask, where exactly do your deities reside? Do they have their own special realms?”
Connie muttered something under his breath, "I dunno what wisdom has to do with the sun..." but at the question, he paused. face scrunching up in confusion.
"They live on their home- Airth."
He was quiet for a moment, starting to pick at his feathers. A faint, anxious chitter left him. A stray thought picking at him now,
"...is that why Heaven and Hell exist...? Because Earth was dying...?" he asked earnestly, tears pricking his eyes at the thought as he gazed up at Michael.
“I see…”
Michael didn’t react much to the first thing you said regarding the sun and wisdom, however when the eldest of the Archangels heard your question regarding Heaven and Hell, he knew that he had to respond
“Actually, Connie… Heaven and Earth were created at the same time, Hell followed not too long after, the last to be created was Purgatory. Every realm was meant to live in harmony… but… the universe had other plans.”
"...I don't get it. Why??"
His feathers ruffled up, confused and conflicted by this new information.
"Why would your God want to live separate from his children...?"
“…”
Michael fell silent, talking about The Father was always hard for not just him, but the rest of the eldest of the Archangel’s siblings… a very touchy subject… yet he knew that he had to answer
“Connie, originally, The Father was in Heaven with us, that was his domain… however, after creating Hell and humanity, he saw them as nothing but failures that he couldn’t fix. So… he vanished, no one has been able to track him down since.”
"..." The young arithian subtly flinched, shutting his mouth on whatever he was about to say.
Connie was wrestling with his words, tears pricking his eyes the longer he held his silence. He could sense that this was a touchy subject, and didn't want to twist the knife unnecessarily. But he wasn't sure how or if he should sugarcoat it...
He shuffled over, gently putting a wing against the Archangel, starting to purr softly to comfort.
"...I'm sorry. That he abandoned you. He shouldn't have given up so easily... I know what thats like..." he spoke softly, avoiding eye contact.
“..!”
Michael flinches slightly, the movement is barely noticeable, then looks down at you… the eldest of the Archangels sighs softly and hugs you gently in return, purring quietly in response
“Thank you, Connie… it still isn’t easy, but he’ll return someday… and I’m sorry that you can sympathize with this. Someone like you… doesn’t deserve to be abandoned… ever.”
Connie sniffled, ignoring the tears dripping down his cheeks, (nor how they fell onto the book, glowing faintly as they were absorbed). He instead nuzzled into Michael, purring intensifying.
"...it was our mother. Wini and mine." he spoke, voice deeper with his purrs. "It... would've been easier if she just abandoned us... we can't fly- we can't do magic r-right... not how a Feathered is supposed to. But she kept us around, despite us both being 'failures'. She... she's a mean bitch-!"
A growl slipped out of him, eyes clenched tight and sharp teeth bared. Unused to speaking ill of his mother, but here, he could freely do so.
“…”
Michael remained silent as he listened to everything you had to say, and each word frustrated the eldest of the Archangels… he didn’t understand how a parental figure could… that’s when he thought back to The Council…
“Connie… I just… I fully understand where you’re coming from, as horrible as it is… I… there’s a very corrupt group that runs Heaven known as The Council. They took over when The Father vanished… I can’t even begin to describe how awful they are.”
Connie sniffled, uncertain what to say. It didn't help that he didn't understand all of the words. But he felt he got the gist- people who thought they knew better taking over, and making everything worse. He wasn't sure what to say, at least, to reassure the archangel or offer advice.
"...would ...they want me gone, too...? Do- do you need help dealing with them...?"
His voice was quiet and hesitant, as though he was walking on eggshells. Uncertain if he was overstepping a boundary, or if he'd misunderstood something in the first place.
“Unfortunately, we’ve tried everything to get rid of The Council, but they keep coming back. A deep seated rot in Heaven that can’t be erased… no matter how many are killed off… others come and take their places.”
Michael’s voice indicated that this specific group had truly worn him out, the eldest of the Archangels exhaled softly but didn’t want to drop the conversation, especially after hearing the other thing you asked him
“Connie, if The Council dares to lay a finger on you, I will personally cause them to experience a celestial solar storm. You’re under my protection, no one gets to hurt you, this much I swear.”
"...it sounds like... clipping rotting branches, but ignoring the underlying roots..."
He spoke tentatively- he wasn't familiar with the kind of leadership that Heaven followed, but if the council was like a group of people who came together to discuss things that effected the whole flock... however big this "flock" was- it was effecting everyone poorly. The idea of... outright killing these people, however much harm they'd caused- scared him, admittedly... but it sounded like there was no other way...
"And... rotten roots can spread through the garden unseen, under the soil... effecting plants you wouldn't think could be effected..."
Connie felt like he was rambling now; he knew some things about gardening and plant care, and far less about the power structures of- anything, beyond what he'd witnessed himself in his flock. And he wasn't confident that he could simply clue in to what Michael was talking about and offer decent advice... he was just a 'stupid kid' still, not even a fledgling despite being well past the age of... of learning to fly...
“..?”
Michael looked down at you, genuinely surprised by the comparison made, it was a very simple yet accurate one, the eldest of the Archangels nodded then looked ahead, seemingly staring at nothing
“It’s basically that, Connie, I wasn’t expecting you to get it so quickly, I’m impressed. However, the roots… they’ve been rotten since the beginning, not even The Father was clear of wrongdoing… some of the angels he breathed life into… they just… never should’ve been created.”
Connie felt warm at the compliment, unused to being deemed clever or smart. But at the rest... he didn't really have a solution...
"...would it... be possible to gather up those that are good, or can be persuaded still, and leave...? Start the garden somewhere else. S-so to speak."
A tentative suggestion; he knew up and leaving wasn't an option for everyone, even if it worked for him and Wini... besides the talk of 'breathing life into them' made it sound like... everyone knew their God here and interacted with him directly. Like dealing with... a parent. Directly. Connie went quiet and still at the thought, wondering if that was somehow part of the problem.... would be hard to change if you were following misguided last instructions, right...?
"It seems so... rigid..." he muttered to himself.
“In theory but… so many of us have lived here for eons…”
The sol behind Michael dims a bit as he speaks, it becomes clear just how hard the situation truly is for the eldest of the Archangels along with his siblings and so many other denizens of Heaven
“Connie, only Archangel Gabriel, God’s Will, and Lucifer live in Hell… Lucifer was cast out by The Father… and Gabriel, he chose to live down there with his partner, a machine named V1. Everyone else? We have roles here that can’t be ignored… and lives we’ve built… there’s… just no way to leave.”
Connie was boggled by the eons comment- but dismissed it quickly as just a figure of speech. He sorted huffed and muttered quietly to himself, finally speaking up,
"Whats even the point of the council? Like what do they DO? What do you do?"
He wasn't trying to be critical of Michael, simply trying to understand his role, and perhaps, the power structure of Heaven. He didn't have much idea of any power structures- Airth had no such things, no kings or queens, no real leaders unless a crisis arose. Even then, after, no one lead their clans. They might make group decisions, or follow an individual who knew the way to somewhere, but that was different to one or even several people making decisions for a whole community.
“The Council’s purpose is to uphold the command of The Father. Everything they do is what God commands of them. At least, that’s what it was supposed to be… but it became nothing but a cult.”
Michael exhaled softly and glanced down, he remembered when The Council originally formed… but it only took a week for everything to fall apart… how could the eldest of the Archangels forget that day? When the first fist collided with his face? At only age 8…
“As for what I do Connie, I’m not only God’s Wisdom, but I uphold military power and am the official strategist of Heaven. Many battles have been won thanks to said strategies, my role is critical here.”
"...you cling to 'The Father' like a flightless chick... did... he never want you to fly on your own?"
Connie was, once again, not trying to be critical. Instead voicing his observation with quite some confusion. It was so different from what he grew up with (though he knew that his upbringing wasn't exactly normal, even for Airth), and it filled him with genuine concern.
"N-not just you, but all of... Heavens people? If everything fell apart the moment he vanished... I just... I don't think... he had a chance to properly prepare your people to... be people...?"
He- really wasn't sure if that was the right phrasing- or if his interpretation of what was going on in Heaven was even correct in the first place!
“Angels of any kind were never meant to be separated from The Father or his light… we needed it to survive… at least that’s what we were told upon being created.”
The sol behind Michael seemed to gradient between orange, red, purple, and blue, he seemed… conflicted… but the eldest of the Archangels didn’t stop talking
“Connie, The Council utilized this fact and used it to keep us in line… no matter what our ranking was in the Heavenly Hierarchy. When angels fall… they either die or lose all connection to God’s light. We were never meant to leave Heaven to begin with.”
Connie was experiencing a host of emotions himself, face twisting up in confusion and mild disgust, feathers ruffled up, sticking out unevenly.
"Whatever your magic, a big fall would kill anyone."
It was all he could manage for a moment, biting his lip hard enough to draw blood; not a difficult thing with his sharp teeth. He was clearly disturbed by what Michael was telling him, and had Opinions about it, too. But phrasing it when it seemed... a delicate and hurtful subject for the archangel was difficult. And really, he was still just a young man.
"Your father either lied or didn't know if you could survive without him- him leaving out of nowhere was horrible of him. I'd guess you either don't need his magic or light or whatever it really is, have your own that can be replenished. Either way- telling you and everyone else that you NEEDED him or you'd die is really, really cruel and manipulative. Thats what-"
His voice caught briefly, curling into himself a little, but he made himself continue,
"-what... what mother told me and Wini. Not so much about magic- but since neither of us could fly, we weren't- expected to be able to hunt for ourselves. And we were neglected when we... we weren't be scrutinized over learning to use a halo or tending the flocks medicine garden..."
He sucked in a breath and exhaled, continuing,
"M-my point- she lied to else, and so did the other Feathered. But they were wrong. Me and Wini can't fly, or hunt the way normal feathered can- but we could still look after ourselves, without their help. And if my mother was wrong about us- maybe your father was wrong about you and the other Heaven-lings."
“Everyone here is divided on whether or not being stripped of The Father’s light truly is a death sentence or not… as Lucifer survived his fall. And Gabriel didn’t die when his so called time was up.”
Michael recounted everything, so far… no angel had died upon either falling or being stripped of their light, their so called lifeline… and yet the eldest of the Archangels couldn’t help that nagging fear… the one instilled by The Council… every Angel had it ingrained into their very souls after all…
“Connie… I’m… so sorry. You and Wini absolutely didn’t deserve to endure something like that. Especially since it’s… oddly similar to what us Angels endure… if you ever need me to intervene, I will.”
Connie nudged his head against the archangel, purring brief but loud, lightly brushing off his offer of assistance. Michael had already promised to keep him and his sister safe, and he trusted the archangel to keep his promises.
"You have two examples right there that you don't need your Father's light. I... dunno if it'd effect your magic but..."
He faltered a little, becoming a bit withdrawn all of a sudden. His previous suggestion to just leave wouldn't work. And if they did need this Light, whatever this magic was... he knew he and Wini would've been fucked without theirs, even if it didn't keep their hearts beating.
His gaze dropped, and he spied the books once again- he reached down and grabbed the one about his world, and started flipping through. It might be a bold suggestion, but what if... one of his deities could help-?
“…”
Michael fell silent while instinctively moving one of his hands to pet you, it made sense to him but… the eldest of the Archangels just couldn’t see anyone aside from The Father himself fixing what’s broken… and even then the idea seemed so far fetched
“Honestly, Connie… none of us know what would happen now. The fear is too deep seated in our lives… so many have tried to fix things, and they’ve failed. There was this one saying I remember hearing that describes it very well. “The angels were slaves, and demons behaved.”… funny how that works, huh?”
A frustrated growl tore out of Connie, giving himself a shake, but his feathers poofed up sharply again afterwards.
"I don't know what that means- but it sounds fucking stupid-" he snarled, angry on the archangels behalf. "Its not fair, for any of you!"
He kept flipping through the pages of Airths stories- seeking something specific, though he didn't know if he would find it... and came across the destroyed pages. He paused, staring in incomprehension, lightly touching the dark tatters, and shuddered; an odd magic. A dangerous, hungry magic; thankfully, only in remnants...
But beneath it all, near the back, was something... new...? Something Michael hadn't noticed the first time he opened the book-
“When was existence ever fair? That’s what i have to remind myself constantly… no being is perfect or free from sin. Not even us angels… which is-“
Michael paused his rant halfway when he noticed the new thing inside the book, it caught the attention of the eldest of the Archangels almost instantly, he tilted his head to the side slightly and pointed at it
“Connie, that wasn’t there during my initial viewing… what is it? Do you have any idea?”
"Who cares if you're not perfect- you still deserve better!"
Connie snapped back, his feathers impossibly puffing out further until he just looked like a big orb of fluff. He initially thought the attention drawn to the book was a diversion, but when he actually looked... there was something new, beneath the pockmarked pages. Hesitantly, he turned the hungry pages and peered at the new thing... and...
The first few pages held more pictograms, followed by a two-page spread of, unmistakably, the Archangel Gabriel, offering a hand to a spooked Connie, (the young arithian backed by more, smaller, more indistinct figures in the background behind him), and Connie reaching back towards him.
...the story of Airth changing, giving itself, if not an ending, then an extension, showing the kindness of someone from another world, for no reason other than to be kind.
“…”
Michael went silent, he knew you had a point, but in this current version of Heaven… logic seemed irrelevant… the eldest of the Archangels then saw the two page spread, he… wasn’t expecting what was shown, yet something about it seemed… familiar…
“Connie… that’s my youngest brother, Gabriel, God’s Will. He’s a kind and compassionate Archangel but has a short temper sometimes, nothing you should worry about. I swear I’ve seen something like this before.”
Connie was studying the image intently, starting to flip between pages again; beyond the large two-page spread was a lot of blank, but intact pages. Maybe a dozen or so. After learning that, his attention turned to the pictograms leading up to the two page image, brows furrowing together.
"...I've never seen him before... but..." he pointed to one of the pictograms on another page; there was a symbol that closely resembled Michaels wings and sol. "I think this is... talking about us meeting... but then it starts talking about something else-"
He flipped back to the two-page image, looking more closely at "himself". Pointing out the hair- while at a glance, it did look like Connie, the hair wasn't cropped short, but looked longer, hidden by the raised wing.
"I think it starts talking about Wini... its hard to see, but, her hair is long- just can't see it good in this drawing-"
“Oh?”
Michael takes a closer look at the pictograms himself, fully intrigued by everything, and as you pointed out to the eldest of the Archangels, the figure had to be your sister… was history changing? Or was time progressing?
“So that’s what Wini looks like, Connie? Hmm… the fact that our meeting is already documented here… could history be rewriting itself somehow?”
"Yeah... we're twins!" he pointed to the wings on the picture, "There's no banding- hers are just pure white, different from mine."
At the question, he paused, looking up at Michael, then back down at the book, lightly toying with the edge of a page. Despite his claws, the pages didn't tear. The book was magic- or so it seemed to Connie, at least.
"I dunno... I don't think so-" he had to think about it for a few moments, but finally said, "I don't think anything has been... changed. I think its just- being told." he concluded.
Connie's head tilted gently, flipping back to the two-page spread, looking at the arithians in the background. He was hardly an expert, but- folks were typically drawn with eyes and mouths. And noses. There were no faces- blank. Spooky. But something about it still- spoke to him. Wini and him hadn't left Airth with anyone else... but other Arithians would try to come to Earth.
If Gabriel was like Michael... another one of these aspects of the god of this world, 'The Father'... maybe he'd met and made a similar promise to Wini, to keep her safe, or to help save Airth, or both...? It seemed likely to him, considering Michaels reassurances about his brother. And based on how other events were displayed in this book... this conductor of his homes stories... this was a significant event?
Or maybe he was wrong about all of it.
"I'm probably wrong... we don't really have books on Airth.... we just tell our stories to one another. There's stories in here I never heard of, and I maybe read them wrong, too... but... w-well... even if Airth dies... its people will still live. If you keep telling a story, its not truly lost, I think."
“Your twin… I see.”
Michael nodded in understanding and continued listening to everything you were saying, the eldest of the Archangels keeping mental note of everything, refusing to forget any of this information
“So… if I’m understanding this correctly Connie, the more we keep talking and interacting, the more likely it is that your story will continue on. Whatever fate befalls Airth… you and your people will remain.”
His tongue stuck out a little, head tilting.
"I mean... maybe? I think... its more likely the story will be spread among many Airithians... I-I'm sure those outside my old flock are nice. I... well... I was gonna try and figure out Earths gods when I got there, and pay respects. Which. I've sortof learned. I'm sure others will too-"
The kiddo was rambling, attention returning to the book, leafing through it to older pages. Looking for something specific. But it seemed that, Connie was implying that he'd tell others about his encounter with Michael, and Wini would do the same about Gabriel. Assuming Michael ever encountered more Airthians, they'd tell his story too... entwining him in their tales.
...maybe the book holding Earth or Heavens stories would carry the story of the Arithians, even just a little, one day... if it didn't already.
“Hmm…”
Michael tilted his head upwards, taking in this vital information, the eldest of the Archangels knew that such things were a foreign concept in Heaven… but he was also well versed in different cultures, so it didn’t seem like a stretch to him
“If that’s the case, Connie… then let’s continue to broaden the story. I already promised to provide you and Wini refuge here after all while also doing all I can for Airth. What your people need now is hope, and I’m willing to offer such a thing.”
Connie peered up at Michael, nodding with a small, grateful smile. He was still flipping through the pages, but he thought he'd found something... a ritual regarding the Sun; a ceremony or calling ritual for Valurien? It looked dragon based... and he swore under his breath.
"...I have an idea to help with that... its... w-well... I'd have asked permission first- I dunno what state Earth is in. I... I dunno if anyone else would've asked permission, a-at least directly, 'cause idk if they'd have figured out how to contact Heaven, or the kind angels, but-"
The young arithian paused, sucked in a breath, and released it, getting the words out clearly and carefully,
"Airthians have been to Earth before... if its destroyed- I think people would try to restore it. Maybe by bringing Airth plants and animals. Maybe try to take care of whats already there. Or both. But... w-well... with your suggestion- to contact Airth- I thought what better way than- w-well... to contact one of the deities...? But I'm not sure if this... would work... its a Scaled practice..."
He was scanning over the pictograms again, angling to show Michael. Not that it was easy to make out- this wasn't a big picture spread.
“Contacting one of your deities to aid in this endeavor? Hmm…”
Michael thought long and hard on the idea, the eldest of the Archangels had always been told that only one God exists and that would be The Father… however…
“You know what, Connie? I see no reason to deny such a request from you. Plus it would be very interesting to see what one of your deities looks like.”
Connie smiled thinly, heartened by the permission, but then, he wasn't sure on the method.
"Thank you... the one problem is... I thought- we'd call for Valurien... Amaris hadn't been answering for... some time... and though I dunno any real ways to try and contact Valurien, the book says how someone did it, but... I don't know if we can because..."
He hesitated for a moment, then explained,
"It says it needs a specific braid... my hair is too short to braid, a-and I don't wanna ask that of you..."
“I see… a braid is needed to begin this? Hmm… hold on one second.”
Michael gets up and teleports out of the Heavenly archive room, seemingly knowing where to find a braid, not even a minute later did the eldest of the Archangels return with… a decapitated head?!
“Will any braid do, Connie? Cause I know this specific head has one.”
"....what the fuck?!"
Connie flinched, physically pulling away from the head, eyes bugging out of his head. He maybe thought that the archangel was going to find someone willing to help, maybe, not- not this! He stamped a wing paw sharply against the ground, then the other, baring his teeth just a little bit at Michael.
"NO, that WON'T WORK. Even if just any braid would work, which won't by the way, we don't take from the dead! Please put that back wherever you found it- I- why do you have something like that??"
His tone shifted from scolding to very light curiosity, struggling not to judge the archangel too harshly despite his initial shock.
“Oh, got it. Guess now I gotta think a bit harder on how to get ahold of such a thing…”
Michael didn’t seem all that bothered by being yelled at, he honestly expected such a reaction upon realizing what he brought in, the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t thinking clearly when he grabbed the head
“Oh right, Connie, as for where I got this… what you see here is the decapitated head of a member of The Council. Gabriel went on a killing spree a while ago but it wasn’t enough unfortunately. We decided to keep this head as a way to disrespect and mock it.”
Connie was deeply disturbed, still, but all he did was slowly nod, inching away from the head. From everything he'd heard, the council deserved it, and there were no feasible alternatives.... didn't mean he liked the idea of keeping an old rotting head around. Wouldn't the smell start to bother them?
"....before you run off to grab... anything we might need. Lets talk about it and make sure we're on the same page? Please?"
There was something in his tone that felt like he'd done this before- pleaded with someone to listen before impulsively acting. It was possible that of the two siblings, he was the older twin.
“Sounds good, I should probably go put this back… one second.”
Michael once again teleports out of the Heavenly archive room with the decapitated head in hand, you notice upon further inspection before the eldest of the Archangels leaves that it seems to be in perfect condition… odd…
“Alright, I’m back, Connie. Sorry for the head jumpscare, now then… wanna explain things to me in more detail so we’re both on the same page?”
...that was... so odd... he knew about preserving hides, and bones, in rarer cases, but... a whole head? He couldn't conceive of how Michael had done it... but he'd ask later, maybe. He didn't want to think about the... head... anymore right now.
He nodded, starting,
"I'm no scaled. And I never talked to any. Only saw 'em from far away, so, I'm going off of what I can figure from the book... there's- a braiding- saying? Or song maybe. I'm... I'm not sure..."
He faltered, then steadied himself, trying to be confidant, continuing,
"It says something about 'braids unto braids'. About making, braids out of many smaller braids. So... making a braid the size of a piece of twine-" he held his fingers a little less than a fingers width apart, "-then braiding a bunch of those together into one larger braid. Its supposed to stay on the head- the only kind that gets cut off is for a death or a birth."
"Its meant as... a prayer I think, for various things? I thought maybe... five, eight, and eleven; Safety under Valuriens Sunlight, Safe Journey's, and Luck. Its not in the book, but I thought... then braid the three together into another, new kind of braid? And then, with the pearl, and a song I learned in my flock to try and call Valurien...?"
He shook his head, "I don't... want to ask you to use your own hair, if its long enough. N-not that I don't think she'd ignore you! I just... even if I could do it... I'm no dragon. So I just... I'm not sure. Maybe just a song will be enough..."
“Alright, I think I understand what you’re saying here. And that shouldn’t be too hard. In fact…”
Michael reaches for his hood and turns to you, the eldest of the Archangels seems like he’s ready to show you his true visage, what lies beneath the hood…
“Connie, I don’t mind having my hair used in this ritual. But I’ll warn you now… my face might scare you a bit. I’m gonna pull my hood down now, ok?”
He did exactly that, and what lay beneath was…
Connie, wondering how different the archangel could look from him that he needed a warning... so when the hood was drawn down, he looked on with curiosity and compassion. He blinked softly, shifting a little closer, curious.
"You have a lot of eyes..."
He chirped quietly, scooting a little closer, pulling the book along with him.
"I'm not scared. Promise." he reassured. "And... you're sure you're okay with this? The braids?" he double checked.
((featured above- Connie art! comm'd from @rotten-dan-art a couple years ago :> I have two main stories that involve Connie and his family- the first one doesn't have a proper name, but the second one is all the stuff with Airth. The stories run very differently, but the characters cores are the same. This one is based on the original canon, asdfadfas.))
“Haha, yeah. Angels of all kinds are known for having more than two eyes, this isn’t anything unusual for our kind. I’m glad that my face doesn’t scare you.”
Michael smiles warmly at you, his bright blue eyes holding a glimmer of life, they seem to contrast quite nicely with the eldest of the Archangels’s darker complexion and hair color, his orange head wings fluttering slightly
“I’m perfectly fine with the braids, Connie, trust me. Plus, if anything goes wrong or my hair needs to be cut, you’d be surprised by just how quickly it regrows. Angels also have impressive regenerative speeds.”
Connie nodded, gesturing Michael to sit down (just. on the floor, lmao) next to him, studying the pictograms in the book very very closely, wanting to make sure he understood and got this right the first time.
"I don't think we'll have to cut your hair.... part of how the braids work, if I'm understanding this, is that- it draws direct attention to the individual. And tells the deity's what specifically the person needs. We're not making a mourning braid, thankfully."
He pulled the large pearl from- seemingly nowhere, setting it down besides himself, keeping a wing paw on it to keep it from rolling away. Where did he pull it from ? Who knows! His 'outfit', a simple loincloth, didn't have any pockets and the lad had no bags or pouches on his person, either.
“Right.”
Michael sat down exactly where you motioned for him to, the eldest of the Archangels did, of course, tower over you quite a bit, his brothers did love to tease him for being a hulking behemoth after all
“Connie, you’re gonna need me to stay still, correct? Also… will you even be able to reach certain parts of my hair? Please do tell me if I need to shift or something, ok?”
"Mmh... I think it'll be okay, but thank you!"
Connie shifted to his hindlegs, wings flapping to help him keep his awkward balance. He rested a wing paw on Michaels shoulder, stretching himself up to be able to reach his hair. It didn't have to be perfect- it just had to... be. He just had to believe that.
"A single wrong note doesn't ruin the song..." he murmured to himself, getting to work.
Gently separated the archangels hair, making numerous tiny, simple braids, then starting to braid those into bigger ones. Starting with Eleven: Luck. Something he felt they needed. He managed to get it all together, when he realized he didn't have anything to tie it off with. He swore lightly under his breath, then realized, he DID have something!
"Hold still please-"
He reached for his loincloth, taking the lowest edge, and cut a strip off with a careful claw. He used it to tie the first of three braids off, then dropped to the ground to double check the book. And pre-cut some more hair ties for the next two braids.
“Alright then, Connie, go for it.”
Michael made sure to stay as still as possible, trying his best not to unconsciously flinch what you began braiding his hair, the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t used to this kind of stuff, but he’d endure just for you and the ritual, yep open hearing the sound of cloth being cut, he couldn’t help but wonder what it was
“..?”
The sound of "cloth" tearing sounded off- not quite cloth, more like... hide? Connie cut six thing strips, and moved around to sit in front of Michael before plopping down and starting to twist each piece one by one. Then he tied three pieces together with a tight knot, holding it tight with a wingpaw (more like a small hand than a paw, despite the name), using his hands to braid the strips tightly together, making a tiny piece of 'twine'.
His loincloth was visible shorter; though how he accomplished that was unclear. He didn't carry anything on him!
"I just- need to make some proper hair ties- it'll just take a minute." he explained, tongue poking out gently in concentration.
“Take all the time you need, there’s no reason to rush these things, Connie.”
Michael’s voice was calm and laid back as he watched with genuine interest while you tied the strips of hide together, the eldest of the Archangels had read something about ancient humans doing similar things, so this wasn’t a surprise to him, despite the fact that you weren’t human at all, it made sense that other cultures would have similar ways of doing things
“…”
Connie smiled up at him, before refocusing on his work. He finished the first one and knotted the end tight. He toyed with it, pulling it taut between his fingers, then out of habit, tossed it Michaels way. Already working on the second one, starting to hum softly. Stopping and starting, toying with different melodies.
The hair tie, made from supple hide, was well made, showing no signs of unraveling. He'd managed to make it thinner than a finger- the initial strips must've been cut very thin before being braided together.
“Oop-“
Michael caught the hair tie with ease, examining it carefully, the eldest of the Archangels couldn’t help but be very interested in how everything was designed, to the point where he began to mindlessly sketch it in one of his mini journals hidden in his cloak
“I gotta say, Connie. These hair ties are very intriguing… so intricate too.”
"Oh, thank you! I've made lots of lil twines before. Some to tie up herbs or animals, or for Wini's hair, for- so many reasons. And she'd lost them a lot. Or use them for the other things."
Connie explained, checking over the second one he'd made, tongue poking out gently. He looked up to ask for the first one, but noticed the journal. He tilted his head,
"What are you doing?"
Shifting closer to try and get a look.
“I see, that makes a lot of sense to me. And seeing such things being made in real time feels like a blessing, I’ve always been curious about these things.”
As Michael spoke, his lower set of hands continued to sketch, the eldest of the Archangels didn’t even seem to notice at first until you pointed it out
“Oh, this? It’s a habit of mine to sketch out things that I find to be new and interesting. Think of it as a way to document history, Connie. You wouldn’t believe the amount of things I’ve mindlessly sketched out.”
Connie peered down at the page, tail swishing gently, humming softly.
"Ohhh.... well... I'm sure if stuff goes to plan, you'll get to see lots of stuff being made!" He chirped, upbeat.
He shifted away, going back behind Michael, starting to make the next braid- eight small ones, that he carefully wove together into the bigger braid. Eight, for save journey's. He used the twine to tie it off when he was done.
"Luck, and Safe Journey's..." he breathed out, starting to chirp a bit more musically for a moment.
"One braid left... five for Valurien's Safety."
He held a hand out over Michaels shoulders, making a small grabby hand,
"Twine please?"
“Haha, I’m sure things will go well. I’ve got faith in you, Connie. And my faith is very rarely misplaced.”
Michael responds with a gentle smile on his face, relaxing when you braid his hair, the eldest of the Archangels not only closing his nine bright blue eyes, but also purring softly
“Here you go.”
"Thank you-"
Connie accepted the twine, and in short order, got the fifth braid done. Tying it off resolutely, he gently pushed off Michaels shoulder and dropped back to the ground, shifting around in front of him. The base-ball sized pearl was back in his hands, toying with it gently. Anxious.
"Okay... so... the next part would be..."
He hesitated- because he didn't actually know. He was making this up as he went along.
“Heh, it’s a non issue for me, Connie.”
Michael chuckled a bit as he relaxed more, the sol behind him glowing a radiant orange, but not bright enough to cause any ocular damage, it’s not often that the eldest of the Archangels lets his guard down like this
“Everything ok? Need any help?”
The young man hesitated, rolling the pearl, an artefact of great power, between his hands.
"I'm... not sure... unlike the Scaled, who... who seem to prayer more quietly- the Feathered sing. Really big hopes and wishes would be sung by the entire flock... one persons song can still be heard... but... I've never really... sung alone... not just- in front of someone else..."
Ah- stage fright?
“Ah, so that’s what it is.”
Michael nods in understanding, the eldest of the Archangels fully understands what stage fright is like, almost every angel that inhabits Heaven deals with it due to The Council wanting nothing but perfection, lest something… horrible happens
“What you’re probably feeling is called stage fright, Connie. It’s actually very common. Take all the time you need, and don’t worry, I won’t judge you at all.”
"....there's been a lot of words I haven't understood since coming here and meeting you... but I can't context my way through this one. Whats the stage part of this fright thing?"
Connie voiced, head tilting quizzically. His confusion seemed to be distracting him from his fright- so- an explanation was sure to help too! Hopefully.
“Ah, right, might as well explain it.”
Michael leaned back a bit and sighed, he wasn’t annoyed, far from it, if anything, the eldest of the Archangels was trying to find a way to readjust his sitting position before speaking again
“Stage fright is basically the feeling of being scared to speak in front of others, Connie. Whether it be with one person or a whole crowd, and it’s very normal. Not everyone is a natural born public speaker after all.”
"...and I'm guessing that extends to singing too..."
Connie sighed, shuffling into a more comfortable posture too. Laying down not unlike a feline of Earth, upper body propped up somewhat by his wings and arms. He gently rolled the pearl between his hands on the ground, a soft chirp leaving him.
"...mmph." his eyes squinted shut, the claws of his wingpaws digging into the ground, trying to steel himself. "I still want to try. Here-"
He held out the pearl between them both, gripping it firmly from the bottom.
"Place your hand on the pearl? I'm... I'm gonna try."
“Yes, it absolutely does, Connie. Stage fright extends to all kinds of things, not just speaking. Honestly I should know, I used to be dead scared of how well my strategies would be seen by others.”
Michael lamented a bit on his past, remembering how shaky he used to get when presenting his battle strategies, even though they were always given the green light, it was something the eldest of the Archangels couldn’t help
“Hm? Alright, I can definitely do this for you. Let’s see here… and… got it. Ready whenever you are, there’s no need to rush.”
Connie nodded, unable to hold Michaels gaze for long. He stared at the pearl, held together in their hands, thinking of the braids he'd made in the willing demi-gods hair. He closed his eyes, and tried to imagine his old home... his deities role in making it, maintaining it, and caring for his people. And opened his mouth to sing.
"Mother of the dirt and rock, who hangs the lands just so- She who beats upon the steel, and makes the skies fires glow. She who swims the endless seas, and keeps away the monsters below."
The pearl began to glow, a warmth growing and spreading into Connie and Michaels hands; it grew slowly weightless, kept from drifting into the ceiling by the twos firm grasp. A faint wind stirred up, smelling of earth freshly wetted by a storm; a faint twinge of sulfur and brimstone; the sandy, salty smell of the sea.
"Mother, caretaker; your child-"
He faltered, dropping the song, then pushed through the discomfort and weird wrongness feeling, and raised his voice again.
"Mother- Mama. I am a chick wandered from his nest destroyed. I've drifted far across the seas above seas- I call, I call, please, hear my call now- Mama Valurien, please, answer my pleas."
The pearl was pulsing rhythmically in their hands; washing over them like waves on a beach; like being tucked up in warm blankets before a crackling winter fire. Magic flowing outwards from the pearl, into Michael and Connie, softly touching on those braids, and then further- to some intangible place beyond....
“…”
Michael kept his nine eyes closed the entire time, listening to every word that was said, the sol behind the eldest of the Archangels began to softly change between orange and red, a sign of complete peace of mind
“..?”
Connie held the magic the best he could, but after minute, it began to falter and dropped rapidly in power. A faint gasping sound out of the young man, the magic dropping entirely, the pearl suddenly heavy in their shared hold.
"...nngh..."
He lowered the pearl some, placing it on the ground, wings drooping. Little feathered airthian looked somewhat discouraged and tired. Had... had he used his own magic in this-? Was the pearls magic not enough?
“Connie?!”
Michael quickly jumped into action and placed the pearl in his lower golden hands before gently holding your shoulders with his main pair, the eldest of the Archangels was very concerned
“Hey, are you alright? I’ve got you, it’s ok. Just… take some time to regroup, alright?”
"I... I overdid it..."
The little feathered admitted, leaning into Michael at the encouragement. Faint chirps left him, starting to feel more together, flexing his numb fingers and paws, trying to bring the feeling back.
"Can... I have something... to eat... please...?"
“Connie, you could’ve asked me to help, y’know? I don’t mind sharing my abilities with others.”
Michael looked a bit hurt, but it quickly passed when the eldest of the Archangels heard the request for food, sighing and smiling gently, he reached into his cloak and pulled out more food, offering it instantly
“Of course, here you go. Take as much as you want.”
Connie whined softly at the 'reprimand', looking quite guilty. He accepted the food with a quick nod, and in moments it was gone. He only hesitated a moment before asking,
"C.. can I have more, please?"
And promptly devoured that in the blink of an eye, too. He felt together enough to then ask,
"Have... have you ever- tried to pour water from an empty bowl?"
“Damn, you really must’ve used up a lotta energy there, Connie.”
Michael couldn’t help but be impressed by how quickly the food was devoured, it made sense to the eldest of the Archangels, using up that much energy is sure to leave anyone in such a state, he knew this from experience
“Pouring water from an empty bowl? I haven’t tried doing that, no. But I’ve heard stories of how such a thing is possible. Why do you ask?”
Connie made a small face,
"Its... a metaphor. Like- I can use a few kinds of magic, but it all draws from one source- like pouring water from a bowl. Normally... you can't pour water from an empty bowl. Nothing happens- but, if the need is great, or if one isn't careful, one can draw too much. But it- damages the bowl, in the process..?"
He gestured a little, trying to figure out how to explain a little better.
"You can fix the bowl, but it takes more water going in before it'll properly hold water. Because you need the water- the energy- to repair the bowl, first. I... think it was explained like. The bowl is your body. sortof."
He looked around for the pearl, found it in Michaels lower hands, and pointed at it,
"Everyone has a different capacity to hold onto magic- a different sized bowl you carry? But that pearl- its like an ocean by comparison. But its also... its own magic. Outside magic has never been used in this kindof praying, that I know of. I wasn't sure if it would... work."
A faint stirring in the air... a scent of damp moss and salt. The barest hint of a breeze, baring the subtle crash of waves on the shore. Something Approaches. Something Powerful.
“Ah, so it was a metaphor. Got it. Truth be told, Connie, I’ve seen some pretty insane things happen, so the idea of such a thing being real isn’t all that surprising to me.”
Michael smiled a bit as he talked, what the eldest of the Archangels said was true, he had seen humanity, especially ancient civilizations, do completely unexpected things, he never got over the shock of it all, then his demeanor suddenly shifted, he quickly got up, the sol behind him beginning to follow a mix between red and blue, small flames lining the edges…
“…Something’s coming… stay behind me…”
Connie blinked, and managed to scamper behind the Archangel, peeking out from behind him, feathers puffing up. Scenting the air out of habit, catching brimstone and seashells. Ash and rain-wet grass. A confusing, but not dangerous mix, strangely...
Not dissimilar to how Connie had first appeared in Michaels office, and yet, so entirely differently.... a soft glowing orb of light grew in the center of the room. Growing larger and larger, exuding a gentle warmth like magma, gently pulsing like a firefly. Until with a sudden bright glow, it dissipated entirely. Leaving a single person in its wake.
Covered near head to toe in deep, dark green scales, save their face, which was a rich brown. Their hair resembled black-brown rope, braided into in-numerous small braids all the way down to their waist. Oddly, they wore human clothes- a trenchcoat pulled over their shoulders, that fell all the way to their ankles. Strangely, too, they stood on their feet, their wings no where in sight.
Their eyes glowed amber, flickering like a fire, before blinking out, instead a warm, gentle brown. Kind, intelligent... gauging. Seeing first Michael, and tilting their head in soft surprise.
"...so it is you who reached across the stars, Child of the Only God. But I do wonder... why...?" genuinely curious, and a hint concerned- like a parent checking an unknown child for the scrape that was making them cry. Not condescending, simply worried.
“…”
Michael stands resolute while keeping you hidden behind him, the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t afraid, he had faced bigger threats before, this wasn’t something worth losing his cool over
“My name is Archangel Michael, God’s Wisdom. I called upon you because of the knowledge I gained regarding Airth. I wish to save it from destruction, if possible.”
The persons eyes widened, head tilting in gentle confusion. Their hands pressed together, palms pressing, and closed her eyes, sighing softly.
"It is a noble wish... but I am afraid there is little to be done, Archangel Michael. I'm uncertain if even your Divine Parent could aid Airth now." She bowed their head. "I'm sorry."
Connie peeked out cautiously, hiding away his wings and tail, shrinking his silhouette. The scent felt right (damp moss, seasalt, sulphur and a metal-ish smell), something he'd never smelled before but it was- still oddly comforting..? But the appearance set him on edge... he lightly tugged at Michaels robes, hissing out as quietly as possible,
"Why are they standing like that...? Where are her wings...? What is she wearing??"
“I understand, I still wished to try, however. Seeing other planets die out in such a way… it’s very depressing.”
As Michael spoke, he signed to you “I have no idea” before turning his attention back to the being in front of him, the eldest of the Archangels remaining as resolute as ever
“Is there any way to save Airth’s people? Bring them somewhere that isn’t on the verge of death? A place where they can thrive?”
Connie... had no idea what Michael had just signend at him. Unfamiliar with any sign languages, let alone earth-centric ones. Just continued to peek out at what he had first assumed was Valurien... but the hints of off-ness was getting to him. The odd posture and lack of wings read as... her being afraid. He wasn't familiar with Scaled Airthians, but... he was certain they had wings. And... tails...
The deity's(?) head tilted softly again, peering just past Michael. Suspecting that someone was there... someone Airthien, even... but they didn't remark on it. They refocused on Michaels face, managing a small, apologetic smile,
"I hope its no imposition, but I have started... altering Earth. Nothing... too major, simply trying to... help reverse the environmental damage. And monitoring what Airth plants are taking root and aren't out-competing Earths plant life. I hope too, that you, and eventually your God, can forgive my children their initial curiosity, so long ago."
....were they certain this was Valurien? Or even a deity from Airth?
“Wait… what?”
The sol behind Michael began to shift between orange and red as he listened to Valurien speak, the eldest of the Archangels wasn’t sure if he heard them correctly or not
“You’ve been altering Earth? Which version of it? Cause the Earth here is completely destroyed. Humanity is wiped out, nothing remains of that planet. So… how?”
Her eyes widened in surprise, standing a little straighter.
"...Does the core at its planet... does it not still beat like a heart? Is their breath, the atmosphere, yet blown away by the suns screaming storms? Yes, the surface is wiped clean... but not all is lost after a forest fire. Nor even from a volcanic blast... the damage is severe, but not... untenable."
Connie spoke suddenly, catching the deity's attention,
"There's different versions of Earth...?"
The young airthian mused, confused... did that mean there were different versions of Airth, too...? Or...? Did Michaels God-parent make multilple Earths??
Valurien was focused on that small voice (small compared to Michaels, at least). "...there is a chick here." she breathed out; then breathed in, composing themself. "I am... uncertain if they should hear all of this."
"What?!" Connie stepped out from behind Michael, standing somewhat unsteadily on two feet; his wings were gone. No blood, no injury- just gone. Like they'd never existed to begin with. "No!! I- we called you together! I want to talk to you, too!"
“The Earth here is completely destroyed… thanks to an event called The Final War. The Father only made one, so now it’s left to rot. Forever scarred by humanity’s folly.”
Michael explained more to Valurian, trying to get the deity to understand how Earth was a lost cause, but when the eldest of the Archangels heard you speak from behind him, he began to panic
“C-Connie?! I thought I told you to- oh my God… your wings! What’s going on here?!”
"I- th-thats what I wanna ask them-" he pointed at Valurien, not accusatory, not exactly, but very confused and a little wary. "We can put our wings away sometimes, its fine, but- w-why would you need too, Valurien?"
Connie's question appeared to put Valurien more off balance than the news about Earth from Michael. She looked genuinely unsteady, before she shook her head, straightening. Dark horns glinted when her braids were unexpectedly whipped around, still visible as she straightened, trying to work out how to reply.
Valurien bowed her head, and where before there was no sign of it, her tail appeared, scaly and sinuous, small dark ridges trailing down the spine. It curled around an ankle, oddly seeming to- soothe the deity.
"I do not hide my wings out of fear... but the truth shames me. Tell me- do you either of you know what a black hole is?"
“…”
Michael stays quiet for a bit, seemingly very interested in the deity before him, the eldest of the Archangels seemed to find her to be someone worth getting to know better
“I’m indeed familiar with a black hole and what it’s capable of, Valurein. Is there a reason why you ask? Has… something gone wrong?”
She nodded, solemn. "No choice made or not made could have prevented this. A blackhole is just a force of the universe... as is a sun, or a planet. But it is... destructive. Powerful. Hungry." she shuddered, arms drawing around herself, averting her gaze.
"I an unclear, Michael, how exactly your Father created so much from seemingly nothing. I am a god, but of... a different kind. I am... I am the planet Airth, itself. One part of a half. I am its earth, its rock and metal and dirt."
She breathed in, and breathed out, girding herself before continuing,
"My other half, my sibling, Amaris, the atmosphere that surrounds Airth, we tried to... dissuade the blackhole from attacking us... it was repelled, briefly. But it will be back... and I already paid the price."
Connie was crouched on the ground, wings still gone, arms wrapped tight around himself. He didn't quite understand what a blackhole was- only that it was something that literally tried to eat his world... and it would be coming back...
“Black holes are known for being very pesky and persistent. Although the ones we know here don’t have consciousnesses, they still cause mass destruction of many star systems. A horrid sight.”
Michael can’t help but lament to Valurein about what he’s seen regarding black holes, the eldest of the Archangels glanced down a bit before looking back up in surprise
“I see… so that’s how it works. I’m so sorry that such an event occurred, and is threatening to come back. Is there anything I can do? At all? I wield the power of the sun after all.”
Valurien hesitated, genuinely considering... then shook her head. "I assume you wield Earths Sun- that of Airths is very different. Simply by its nature... you said you have knowledge of Airth, Michael? I assume what the Feathered child has told you- I've heard my peoples stories, I'm not sure if any know the fine details of some things-"
"I'm not a child-" Connie interrupted, cross, shoulders hunching. Snapped out of his mounting panic. Before realizing who he'd interrupted, but he wasn't sure how to apologize-
The deity bowed her head in apologize, outspreading her hands palm up. "I'm sorry, you are right. Forgive me- I see the people of Airth as my children. What is your name?"
"I... Connie." he managed, surprised. That wasn't the response he anticipated... then again. Valurien wasn't his mother.
“You’d be correct in assuming such things. Although my solar energy is divine, it definitely can’t hold a candle to the sun in other universes.”
Michael felt bad for having to admit such a thing, it made the eldest of the Archangels feel like he wasn’t as strong as he thought, that he couldn’t carry out what God intended aside from knowledge and strategizing
“…If only The Father didn’t vanish, then maybe things would be different… for all of us…”
Valurien hesitated, then stepped closer to Michael. Humming gently as Connie scooted out of her way without a word, a gentle sadness at the thought that she had scared him.
"Even if things were compatible- even the stars fall to black holes in this universe. I'm not sure if your direct intervention would help... in fact, I fear it would hurt you, and I don't wish that to happen to anyone else... even if you could completely destroy that- monster-" she growled, voice dipped low for a moment, before trying to regain her composure. It wasn't entirely successful.
"-if it would leave you as hurt as I... I couldn't condone that." she sighed softly, tugging at the trench coat, ensuring it was tight to her body. She straightened herself. "Don't try to blip to Airth. I've managed to arrange it so that its one-way only. I cannot allow that damn black hole form finding a way out of that void."
“I understand completely, Valurein. Not even an Archangel such as myself would dare to fuck with a black hole of any kind. The danger they pose is very well known after all.”
Michael nods quickly, he knew the dangers, every being did, black holes were feared universally, the eldest of the Archangels knew that even the souls in Hell were scared of such a cosmic beast, even if the sky didn’t exist down there
“However, I must know… what do you intend on doing to Earth? It’s far past any point of salvation. Even Archangel Ariel can barely get life to grow… they… were bed ridden throughout the entirety of The Final War, due to Earth dying.”
Valurien was silent for several moments, closing her eyes and sighing regretfully.
"I first want to apologize, for my assumptions when I first came to Earth... about its gods- stewards? Ah... I continue to make assumptions. I'm sorry... I don't mean to step on toes, or into any persons domain."
She grasped her hands in front of herself, asking forgiveness and trying to step a bit more carefully as she continued,
"I was going to try and revitalize it, bringing back as many of its original plants and animals as possible, and introducing certain Airth plants where appropriate, if it was appropriate. Even in just small pockets, if I could recreate some semblance of an ecosystem... I could guide more of Airths children here, and teach them how to respect the new balance, and help maintain things. To help bring things back form the brink..."
Valurien paused, then added, apologetic once again, "I've already started such efforts... I'm sorry..."
