To think they had been a happy family once upon a time was almost surreal to the lamia. Even out of home, Nicholas Jung never said that his family wasn’t important. It was quite the opposite. There was nothing more important to him than his family, but it was also time to love himself and that was exactly why he left home. Before the day he closed the door of his bedroom door there for the last one, he realized that his opinion really didn’t matter. It would always be him against his uncle. Nobody would really understand his perspective, or at least accept it. Why was it so hard to do it? People were different and they deserved to have their own opinion. That was one of the reasons why Nicholas had left. The other was because he was slowly suffocating there. Everything was a constant reminder of what happened to his father. His mother had left to Seoul too and in some way, he had become a stranger in his own home. This was something he never revealed to his cousin, not wanting him to know that he had felt in this way. But what didn’t take him long to realize was that his apartment also didn’t feel like home. It was always empty and something was clearly missing there.
The doorbell echoed in the apartment and the lamia smiled slightly when he recognized Stephen’s apartment. Everything changed when his cousin was with him. The emptiness he felt in his apartment was always less empty when his cousin was around. That was certain. Opening the door for him, he let him in. “Are you coming for dinner? I didn’t expect you here today.”
Stephen hadn’t known a time when his family hadn’t had some sort of missing piece. There were a few vague memories from before the time that his cousin had been taken. From before the tragedy struck the family. From that moment on it seemed that one after another, there was always something or another disaster. Whether it was his own kidnapping, his uncle falling into a coma, or his sister leaving they all seemed to follow the pattern of his family life. They had functioned as well as any other family might have and the lamia wouldn’t deny that they had had their moments of fun. Their moments when they things weren’t always so serious but there was always a missing element in the background of their laughter. It was never as full as it could be and Stephen had always been extremely sensitive to that reality, because he also had been the one witness to those memories which were coming back to him in flashes. There was a reason now that he went out a lot more often than before. And though his parents weren’t the ones that would hear of these memories that came in the form of nightmares, Nick was likely the only one in his family that Stephen would even dare share this with. But with all the work that his cousin did, Stephen didn’t feel that he ought to bother him with even more issues. There was enough on his plate, between his father, the club, and his role in the Jung empire. That was why instead of saying anything more, the lamia decided to try to recapture some sense of normalcy, and visit the other.
“It’s called a surprise hyung. Aren’t your surprised?” Stephen said with a wide smirk before entering the apartment that he pretty much considered his second home. His parents were already on edge with everyone having let the house and so every time that he did, they worried he wouldn’t return. So they would only accept it if he said he was going to stay with Nick because they still held onto the hope that he would be able to convince his cousin to return. Stephen held onto that hope as well because he could not stand being in that house where everything had already been empty enough with everyone there not to mention being there when no one was there.

She didn’t have to be in Stephen’s head to know exactly what he was probably thinking. Men like him were extremely predictable. The woman had no doubts that he thought of himself as someone extremely important and perhaps even special, but in fact, he was exactly like any other man from his type. There was nothing special in him, not even the brains (sadly!). The money was only more weight in his pockets. Perhaps a business with the Jung family hadn’t been the most brilliant plan ever. The witch couldn’t deny that she was a bit worried with her own money. Stephen Jung seemed like someone who simply didn’t care about anything else, but himself. That could be a problem to their business, because she didn’t want him to sink what took her so long to receive from her (dead) father. There was nothing more important to her than her business and her money. Sunhee had been someone who had nothing in the past and she refused to go back to her poor days. “So if you are in a bad mood, your company is having a bad phase?” This answer was something she was interested in hearing.
Conversation with the other was truly a waste of time and for Stephen, time was money. There were few things that he could say that he truly cared about, or people for that matter. He didn’t care about the majority of the population, and perhaps his family was among the few that actually mattered. Even there, his cousin and sister were among the few he held in highest regard. And though he would never admit it, Kevin was likely to be among those handful of people that the lamia gave a damn about. Besides them, the only other thing that mattered to him was the money that his family had. The money that brought with it the power that he had—he had lived his entire life knowing nothing but. That was the reason that he was still working in the company and wouldn’t risk anything. Especially not associating with someone like her. The first time they met she threatened to sue and though he was more than certain she wouldn’t have enough money or evidence to get anywhere with that threat, he also knew that he wasn’t about to let his guard down around her. Social climbers like her were just looking for reasons to get more than they were worth and he knew her kind well. “Are you usually cheerful in the company of those you hate?” If her answer was yes, then it would only confirm the fact that she was a deceptive fox which he already felt that she was.
savannahxkim
“Is that a threat? Really? How old are you? Twelve?” She asked, not believing a man of his age would really behave in this way. What kind of person used those kind of words to talk to someone they just met? A rude one, of course, one that didn’t understand the value of respect and kindness, and one that obviously thought that he was the only one deserving a respectful treatment from others. “Not one in that million would be the same as this one” She wasn’t sure why she was wasting her time explaining anything to him, chances were he wouldn’t understand. “This broken cheap piece of plaster has more value than all the money in your bank account but you would never understand that” She continued, completely disgusted by this man’s attitude. “This has probably more value than you will ever have” And she was trying not to think about how she was feeling about this broken gift. It meant so much to her and this rude man had broken it before she even got the chance to take it home with her.
“One I’m more than capable of acting on.”This childish woman who was crying over one of her toys breaking was asking him if he was twelve? The entire situation was just hilarious right? Or perhaps he was the only one who found the humor in the irony of everything that she was saying. Another version of him would have been a little more forgiving, but life had stripped away whatever little patience he might have had for the human kind. They were worth nothing more than bags of blood and money. This woman had no money which meant that she was even lower than the rich ones. He didn’t wish to be wasting any more time on her and already he was running late for his meeting. And yet his thoughts didn’t leave her. There was a sense of familiarity in the fight, in arguing with her that Stephen wouldn’t pick up on until later. There was a way that their argument, though enraging him, also captivated him, keeping him completely fixated on just those moments. The lamia didn’t think about everything else he had—the meeting had long since slipped from his mind as had all other considerations. “You’re a sentimental fool. The world is hardly kind to people like you. Figures that’s why you’re where you are and I’m where I am.”
savannahxkim
She rolled her eyes, not even trying to hide the despise she felt towards this rude and awful man. It was so obvious, in the way he spoke, his tone, his attitude, he really did think he was better than her, and probably than half or even more of the Earth’s population, and it only made her blood boil because people like him had ruined her father’s life, and hers as well. People like him were the ruthless an heartless people who didn’t care about consequences, who thought they were untouchable. It was unfair, and Savannah could never keep her mouth shut when she was put in situations like these. “So that’s how the world ends, uh? The whole planet in hands of an idiot, if that’s my future I would hate to live in it” She said as she picked up the broken arm of her ballet dancer. “Look what you did”
“Do you want me to help you ever have to see it?” Stephen suggested throwing away any pretense if he had even been maintaining one. He couldn’t get himself to think straight because if he had then he would have realized they were in a public place—that they were in his work place none the less. It was not appropriate for him to be making statements and threats of that sort and if any of his associates saw him what would they think? All of these were ideas that should have been going through his mind but none of them were. Instead the only thing that was flashing before his eyes was the anger he felt towards her words. Idiot? Chances were great that he was far more intelligent than the stupid woman before him and he was sure that within a few minutes, a few phone calls, he could put her in her place. The security camera was recording everything and he was absolutely certain that if he needed to he could look into her. Use the same PI that had been looking into the other infuriating Korean woman he ran into at the mall earlier that year. He couldn’t help the laugh that escaped when he saw the piece of porcelain that she was holding up. “You’re upset over the cheap piece of plaster? I can buy a million of those in a heartbeat.”
savannahxkim
She hadn’t reacted like the polite person she usually was, and she noticed it as soon as she started talking. And she was going to apologize, and tell the man to excuse her initial reaction and just pick the pieces of her gift and walk away, but then he talked, and she couldn’t hide the surprise on her face. How dared he blame her when he was the one who had been so absently walking towards the elevator? How could he be speaking to her like that? Like she was the most stupid woman for getting in his way? “And maybe if you didn’t walk like you have a stick up in your ass you’ll notice that you’re not the only person in the world, you little brat” She felt no regret, he deserved to hear her words, since he looked the kind of guy who treated others like they were crap, and those type of people were the ones she hated the most. It reminded her too well of all the injustice her father had to deal with, and she had promised herself to never let anyone treat her the same way.
Brat? The nerve of the woman didn’t fail to surprise him, which in itself was a great feat. There weren’t many that dared to speak back to him and there was no doubt that she had absolutely no idea who he was. Stephen could hardly stop the scoff the passed from his lips because this entire encounter was beyond believable. Though usually he was a man that took much care in appearances in that moment, somehow, the only thing he cared about was putting this infuriating woman in her place. “If the world was full of people like you, I might as well be the only one in it.” He replied, tone laced with apparent annoyance and anger. The day wasn’t supposed to be going like this and he was already in a horrible mood because he had been forced to come in. And to top it all off, he was standing there listening to some nobody talk back to him.
savannahxkim
It wasn’t common for Savannah to receive gifts. Growing up, she understood the value of money and how hard her father worked for her to get everything she needed, so she never asked for anything. She never wanted a bike, never asked for a phone, never asked for new clothes unless it was strictly necessary. But today it had been different. She had received that very same morning the most gorgeous music box she had ever seen. It was made of crystal- or at least something that looked similar to it- and it had a ballet dancer on the top, that danced to the sweet melody when the box was opened. It had been a gift from one of her most loyal students, and Savannah was so moved, she had to stop by the hotel where she knew she was staying during her short visit back to town, since she had moved to a bigger city a few months ago. She held the music box in her hands as she walked into the hotel, and her grip wasn’t strong enough to hold it once a man bumped against her. The music box fell and the dancer lost an arm, the fifth position of the upper part of her body completely ruined. “Look what you’ve done!” She exclaimed
His ears immediately picked up on the heartbeat, the scent of the blood running through her veins rich with hemoglobin. That was enough for him to know she wasn’t another lamia, and even before he even knew who this woman was, his mind had already knocked her down a few pegs. He was the superior and she was the inferior. The fact that something she had been holding had fallen didn’t even register with him. Instead, he was just waiting for his apology so that he could be on his way, after throwing a few malicious words her way. Instead he got an angry expression and an accusation. Appalled didn’t even begin to cover how he was feeling in that moment. Aghast at the audacity of the woman who had gone ahead and bumped into him and then went on to say that it was his fault that her damn toy had broken. “Maybe if you used your eyes, it wouldn’t have happened. Clearly you aren’t blind, though you aren’t much better than one.” Stephen said, adamant about holding his ground until he got the sorry that he was expecting. There was no chance of him budging, especially not in front of a human girl who meant absolutely nothing and was nothing in the world.
Coming into the company was the last thing that Stephen had wanted to do that day but things at home made it almost necessary. His father was already on edge and his mother was dissociating with everything. The family structure had completely shattered and his uncle was still suffering. That meant that Stephen’s father was constantly looking for reasons to start a fight and he wasn’t about to become that reason. And that was why he was there, in the office that day for a meeting. He had pushed all his shoots to later in the day, finding that even if he didn’t want to, he was almost working just as hard as Nick. Difference was his cousin did it out of volition and Stephen did it out of coercion. The door to his car was opened and he began to walk towards the building, making eye contact with all those who stood to greet him in the hotel as he entered. It was him who wasn’t watching where he was going and that much anyone could have seen. But nonetheless, when he felt another body come into contact with his, Stephen immediately let out a loud and frustrated sigh before turning to face the woman in question. He raised his brow expectantly, waiting for her apology. ( @savannahxkim )

“I hope you didn’t think people became friends with you because you’re nice, or funny, or cool. I’m only here for the perks of being a hotel owner’s bully. Next month? Fuck it, buy me dinner and I’ll forgive you for turning me away like this.”
“Or….You can always just..properly address me.”
“I don’t know about others, but you are definitely only after my bank account. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were the one who orchestrated the kidnapping in the first place.” Though his words were meant as a joke, in reality the younger lamia was grateful towards Kevin for helping him. It was the only reason that he allowed him such free reign to do whatever he pleased because otherwise he wouldn’t have been caught dead in the company of a wolf, that too one such as Kevin. “Make that drinks and I’ll consider.”
jangwoo-choi
Jangwoo took in the man in front of him. Judging by the clothes he wore, he was a very wealthy man; the male nurse had seen this type too often, asking for the most tragic floors of the hospital. Although he didn’t care much for these people, Jang also understood the amount of money they donated, and how much it helped. “It’s on the fourth floor. Did you need to drop off a check, or are you just taking pictures?”
The tone and the words from the other were harsher than Stephen was expecting, the implication even more insulting. Were it up to him, he wouldn’t have bothered wasting money on something as idiotic as dying human children. There were plenty of other things that they could do with that same money than try and prolong the tiny humans’ sad existence. But his mother, for all her superiority complexes, found that it was gratifying to patronize the humans with donations. “Actually I’m shopping for some organs. I have someone who could really use them and I figure that’s the best ward to try.”

It was the fact that she knew how much she annoyed him that actually made their meetings even funnier. Without be their first meeting of course, because in that day the witch honestly wished she could have kicked his pompous ass from how rude the lamia was with her. Perhaps in that day, Stephen had hit a soft spot. Once upon a time, Park Sunhee was only a name. Years had passed and now she was one of the richest heirs in South Korea. This title obviously had a price, but it had been worth it. Her father had renegade his own child and he hadn’t deserved her pity. The man had exactly what he deserved. The difference between then and now was that Park Sunhee wasn’t a ‘nobody’ anymore. She was clearly someone and not even Stephen Jung was going to make her change her mind about this. “Interesting.” It didn’t matter if he was talking about her or the books. It honestly didn’t bother her anymore. “There must be always something bothering you, because you seem to be always grumpy. Lucky for you, I know the perfect solution for your problem. I know a doctor, who is amazing for your case, you should visit him someday. Poor you, being always bitter must be tough.” The sarcasm was obvious in her tone and Sunhee didn’t hide her sugar-coated smile when she said this.
If he had to count the number of people he didn’t want to see in Pyro Hills, that would include the majority of the population. For Stephen, it was far easier to list the people that he wished to actually see rather than those that he didn’t. The former was far shorter than the latter and that was precisely why. His tolerance level for most people was very minimal and one thing he knew for sure was he hated peasant more than anything else. Among those, there were people like her who tried to use any means possible to get up the social ladder. Of course he knew the appeal of that, because it was hard to argue that being among the top one percent wasn’t a blessing. But that didn’t mean absolutely anyone could get up there, especially not those like her. Though he knew that he ought not let her get under his skin, that was hardly an easy task for Stephen. He wasn’t Nick who had the ability to turn a blind eye to even the most irritating of people and find a way to befriend them. “My mood usually reflects my opinion about my company.”
fckkestrel
“Does inspiration often take this long?” There wasn’t a trace of her usual arrogant tone hidden behind the question. He wasn’t like the primitive bar individuals that often irritated her, she hadn’t felt the need to belittle him, yet.
“Must depend on the person. If it has hit you for example, you are free to start.” He wasn’t exactly sure why this woman, with her status in Night World, would be working at a place like this, and yet here she was. Sometimes he heard that those who had everything growing up got bored and wanted to experience life like how the others did and while he would never leave the life of luxury for one that was anything less, maybe he could respect those who tried. Or he would write them off as stupid—which Kestrel Redfern would be getting was still undetermined.
kevin-hwang
“Funny.” Kevin said dryly to try to get under Stephen’s skin. He looked over at his friend with a slightly serious expression. “Money. My drug money’s not enough.”
“Of course it is. This is why people befriend and refuse to let go of powerful friends. Somehow it’s assumed that I’m your own personal ATM.” Stephen shook his head at the other. “I don’t have pocket money for you. Collect at the beginning of the next month.”
xsunhee
It was him. That was the first thought that crossed Sunhee’s mind. The second was which method was more effective to kick his pompous ass, without making herself too obvious. Then, she thought better about this. What was the point of doing something against him? The king was going to fall from his throne (even if it’s only for a bit) when he realized that the Parks and Jungs are connected in business. Oh this is going to a Joy. ❝ Always so polite. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought you were in a good mood. ❞ The witch took the book from him, looking at the cover. It didn’t have any scratch – perfect.
There were some people that put Stephen on edge and it took quite a bit to actually get that reaction from him for most of the time he was extremely indifferent. But the woman before him got the award for that, which was why he never took anything she said or did at face value. He had yet to realize that they were doing business together but he would have been ready to pay millions over for breaking that contract rather than doing business with her family. It was like sleeping in a mine field and Stephen’s self preservation instincts had allowed him to live thus far. “I was before I saw this mess in front of me.” Whether he was talking about the books or her was up to interpretation.
Stephen felt like his home was hardly home anymore. His sister left, Nick left which meant he was the only one in the house still. There was a time when it was full of the entire family and it would be an overstatement to characterize Stephen as a man of sentiment but nonetheless, it was easier to not be picked out where the table was crowded. Now it was just him and his parents, making life extremely suffocating in the house, his father’s eyes perpetually on him. Which was what brought him to his cousin’s door in the first place. “Hyung, it’s me.” The words were automatically Korean as he waited for the other to let him in. ( @nicholasjung )
