Pass it on.
The Thing Is...
…you never know what you want until it happens to you…and until then, you often don’t even know that the thing even existed, let alone whether or not you wanted it.
Agreed. I never wanted to be a teacher, now here I am - absolutely loving it.
Everybody has a chapter they don’t read out loud

Pizza is knowledge. Amen.
Going back to work tomorrow!
No students until next week, but I will be working all this week to set up my room. I may post before and after pictures. I'm going into my third year teaching. I'm feeling a lot more confident this year. Looking back at my first year....I can't believe I survived that! Good thing it only happens once!
Snow Days - Update
We are back at school but students do not report yet. The roads are still bad but they thought that faculty and staff should report. I went in this morning kicking and screaming, but I actually accomplished a lot today. It will be the same tomorrow. I just know that the students will dread coming back. Whenever that will be.
Snow Day has turned into Snow Week
Seriously, school has been called off all week. No complaining from me! :)
For education dare day: Hi! I teach secondary special education and it's my first year! I started my job in November and I feel like I'm getting buried alive in paperwork. Do you have any tips for a newbie on how to stay organized?
Hello! I'm sorry to say that I'm not too terribly organized myself, but I will give you some tips that help me.
Data paperwork: I have a file folder drawers for each of my students similar to the picture.
After each student finishes their work that is associated with an IEP goal, I simply put it in their drawer. Make sure your students are dating their work. I also file behavior data in their drawers as well. When it comes IEP meeting time, I take all of the contents out of their drawer then compile by content and date, then graph their data beginning with their pre-assessments from the beginning of the year. This is extremely helpful for progress reports throughout the year, so you are looking at the data numerous times, not just at IEP meeting time.
Lessons: I have a set schedule for my class and the curriculum that I use helps with planning. I use Reading Milestones for reading data, TouchMath and TouchMoney for math, and Unique Learning System for all other subjects including transition. I'm also addicted to Teachers Pay Teachers.
I invested in an Erin Condren Teacher's Planner https://www.erincondren.com/teacher-lesson-planners which has helped me immensely with keeping up with meetings, field trips, etc.
I also work on different things on different days. I always do my lesson plans on Thursdays and have my paraprofessional make copies on Fridays. I also like to do assessments on Thursdays because my students are burned out on Fridays.
I'm not sure if this has helped you in any way, but please feel free to ask me any questions! It's a very time-consuming job and its easy to drown in the paperwork, so I understand! Hang in there. :)
