WHAT IS OUR PROJECT ABOUT ?
Our project is about most common stereotypes about Polish people when compared to foreigners. We would like to help audience to answer some actual questions.
For example: how others perceive Poles, what do they think about themselves as a nation and what is their attitude towards foreigners, how do they recognize them (by appearance, style of clothes etc.).
We decided to choose this topic as it is important nowadays for society because it can help people and us to separate true from false about Poles by learning real facts from native residents of Poland and will motivate them not to create wrong opinions about foreigners in this country and worldwide.
As this theme is really extensive, we decided to divide it into several parts so it could be easier to understand:
1)stereotypes about poles;
2)stereotypes about foreigners;
3)how is it possible to recognize foreigners;
4) the attitude toward Ukrainians after the movie “Wolyn”
There is no special evidence due to stereotypes, we only know that there are hundreds of them, they are always around us. As our topic refers to the views of Poles, randomly chosen and not related to any social category and the main tool of work was an interview.
Kind of evidence is based on the answers of people or the public. We think that our story is really newsworthy because our group consists of different nationalities and every day we hear good and bad things about Poles and so many opinions about our countries.
That’ s why we think people should be well informed about the attitude of ‘’victims’’ of stereotypes to this topic. They will be able to make sure of their beliefs and learn something new.
We put the main emphasis on the most common stereotypes about Poles and how do they react towards them (do they agree or disagree).
We organized interviews with some people in the central shopping mall where it’s usually crowded and also asked some native students in our University.
While planning the project and discussing the factors which influenced the person’s mind and provoked stereotypes, we decided to pick up the popular movie of the Polish director Wojciech Smarzowski called ‘’Wolyn”.
It has instigated much controversial around the world. It was interesting to hear if Poles changed their perception of Ukrainians after watching a film.
We also included a topic of fashion to underline it’s role in the recognition of foreigners based on the first impression related with appearance.
This allowed us to speculate quite true views on their styles of clothing, it has demonstrated the typical preferences on the inside appearance and to our mind help people stay different.
To sum up, we hope that our project will bring you a pleasure, even will get rid you habit to believe in stereotypes and will help you analyze some things in an adequate way.
