Finished short story: Candide by Voltaire
About 88 pages, but the pages are pretty long and the there is a lot of vocab you’d want to know prior to reading the book. I can empathize their ‘philosophy’ on life because in the end, Pangloss whom states “All events form a chain in the best of all possible worlds.” and “For in the end, if you had not have had the things that happened to you, you would not be where you are today” Voltaire’s retrospective of life leads to his popular quote “We must cultivate our garden” The significance behind that quote is to take out the bad roots in order to make room for the 'new’ to grow. Be modest, be content, refine what you have, and have limitations to immediate life.
Reblogging my own post from sophomore year because I’m going to re-read this book.
