I think people misinterpret Mehrunes Dagon.
He's not a jock. He's not a screaming angry animal, not openly.
He's a schemer, a plotter, an urbane, well-spoken gentleman, a philosopher- or so he thinks.
Haskill describes him as the most imcompetant schemer in the Realms, but he is a schemer.
In Battlespire, we speak to him, and he's urbane and polite, or least seemingly urbane and polite.
That word, 'seeming.' Dagon seems polite, even when trying to kill you. Dagon seems philosophical when quoted by Camoran. He seems a skilled plotter when we look at the Mythic Dawn assassinating the Emperor and invading Mundus. Seems.
But consider. He's polite, when trying to kill you. His quotes seem philosophical, but they're just 'Neener neener, everyone's gonna see I'm toughest and I'll crush them, you'll see.' His plots fall apart because he didn't reallize the famously-adulterous Uriel Septim would have bastards.
Dagon's not a drooling barbarian, he's worse- a pretentious, pseudointellectual midwit might-makes-right asshole. He's every alt-right 'dark enlightenment' statue PFP, all fake intelligence and mangled philosophy and sloppy 'plotting' over a complete lack of emotional control and a deep desire to just smash everything complicated while bitterly envying and desiring the sophistication he mocks, but can only fumble the performance of and then crush in a rage.
Comparisons to various manosphere personalities, I leave to the reader.
